I live in Southern Ontario Canada and have a location, for Short Eared Owls, that I have been going to for years. I always tell people that I hear them long before I ever see them because of the way that they squack to communicate. I love that they are “sloppy” flyers that will suddenly dart down to their prey. Patience is definitely the game. I have sat for hours, at the side of the road in my car, snow blowing sideways, with my windows open and dressed like I was going on a ski trip. I appreciate you sharing the time and effort it takes to experience these birds. I go out in all weather because owls still need to eat and will be hunting in all sorts of weather. A truly honest video with real pictures. Thanks.
That sounds amazing, and you’re clearly very committed going out in those conditions! We rarely get much snow but I’d love to photograph owls in those conditions one day. Thanks for your comment and I’m glad you enjoyed the video :)
Great video. Shows the effort involved and how some days are more productive than others, but that's life and you are both enjoying and appreciating nature.
Fabulous to see the 2 sitting side by side! Well done. Love your enthusiasm and perseverance too. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this, and thanks for sharing your lovely footage and images. That looks a great place to while away some hours with the camera.
Loved seeing the shorties, and as always I really enjoyed your honest account of what it takes to be a wildlife photographer. Hopefully you will get a chance to get a bit closer next time🦉
Great Video Olly, myself would bei Happy to See zu These owls one day but in my Region there are Not so many owls to observe and Photograph but hopefully some day when I'll Visit britain for Photo Safari I Hope to remember your Spot 😊
Hi Olly! Your dedication is admirable. You got some beautiful shots there. I can't wait to get out in the new year when I get a bigger lens. All the best.
@@wildlifewitholly You're welcome :) I'm glad to hear it. It's always so satisfying when you get out and are rewarded with some keepers. I'm looking to get the Nikon 180-600mm to go on my Z7ii. If all goes well with that lens, I'll move up to a prime 600mm with a 1.4x teleconverter later on in the year! But thank you! All the best!
Cracking video mate - great to see the effort and perseverance you put into it! Seems like a stunning location, look forward to seeing your future efforts with the SEOs 😊
Good effort Olly, nice images, I am sure you next outing will be a success, now you know the area, and where they are liklely to be, just need that good weather day. 👍
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it and that’s what I’m hoping for, just as long as they stick around in that area for a few more weeks I can hopefully can some good shots 🤞🏼
great video, love cannels that sow wat really happens, not just the amazing shot at the end.. I'm guessing you are in the NE somewhere? I want to take a trip to Bempton in the next few weeks as short eared owls reside there too apparently
Thank you, really appreciate the comment! Wasn’t sure about putting it up seeing as it didn’t end how I wanted but that’s so often what happens with wildlife. I’m actually based in London and this was filmed in Oxfordshire. Never made it to bempton but seems to be a great place for all kinds of birds - have a great time if you go!
Thanks for sharing the experience with us and nice photos! Given you know where they frequent, there should be plenty of time to nail some shots! I was thinking of picking up the 100-500 with my R7, and it seems to be doing well!
Nice video. Suggest you get a lens coat for the white lens though. Just so good to be outdoors though. I'm out looking for Hen Harriers in the New Forest tomorrow
We have short eared owls at a wildlife refuge in Kansas. I've been there twice and haven't seen any yet. Perhaps this year I'll try if others report seeing them.
Hey just found your channel, love the content, i found your audio was a tad quiet and i had you on max volume, hope you don't mind constructive feedback, looking forward to seeing more!
Hey, thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate the feedback as well, will definitely try and up the volume in post a bit more - often hard when I’m trying to be quiet around wildlife but will do my best :)

Another great video, I was out this weekend photographing Short-eared Owls. Stunning birds.
Thanks Jon! They’re so cool, how did you get on?
Really well, was my first time out photographing them. Managed to see and photograph several Owls.
You having to run all that way definitely put a smile on my face.😊
Nice one Ollie, I had a SEO and Marsh harrier lately in Galway Ireland, lovely birds to see.
Thanks Hugh, that’s awesome - I’ve never seen a marsh harrier!
Great video, love seeing those owls! Beautiful countryside!!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video and agreed about the countryside, I’m very lucky to be able to access such great nature!
Somebody clearly skipped work 😂. I don't blame ya mate. What a great opportunity.
😂 unfortunately I’m too honest and ended up booking a couple hours off in the afternoon, well worth it though!

Thank you! If you do visit then one of the best regions for owls is Norfolk - I’ve never been but it’s on my list!
The shot of the owl in the grass at the end was very good! Keep it up 🙌
Thanks mate!

Thanks Frank, I was out again this weekend and finally got the shots I wanted! All the best in the new year! What lens are you getting?

Thanks! I did get one but it was a really poor fit so need to invest in another. Good luck tomorrow 🤞🏼

@@wildlifewitholly have a look at the mic you are using you might be able to increase the sensitivity settings!
Hi Brother, my camera set up as well same . R6 Mark II with 100 500 F4.5-7.1 L USM. can you review the set up with RF 1.4x and RF 2x extenders
I can try to do this in a few weeks but it’ll depend on the light because with the extended the minimum aperture won’t let in that much light sadly
I have both extenders. 1.4 x is good. But avoid the 2 x. It’s not worth it.
