Putin's next target? Interview with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili | DW News

  • The war in Ukraine strikes a special nerve in Georgia, a small country in the Caucasus region. Russia invaded Georgia in 2008 in support of two breakaway regions there. It was able to gain control of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and recognized them as independent states. Georgia considers them occupied territories. DW spoke to Georgia's President Salome Zourabichvili. She said her country is looking with hope and admiration at Ukraine's resistance to Russia's invasion.

Well, after the soviet union, Georgia had it's first war with Russia in early 90-es, in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region, when Russia was involved as "peacekeeper" while using airplanes to bomb our cities. Then Russia brokered "peace" agreement with its own military as peacekeepers mission on our territory. War lasted for 1 year... (Hundreds of thousand Georgian civilians where forcedly displaced as a result)
Then there was 2008, and the same, with an facade of "helping minorities" Russia invaded Georgia and declared the same "brakeway" (in reality occupied by them) parts as independent republics.
This is Russian style: Supporting separatism, then Stageing inner conflict, then supporting one part with enough military to cause total destruction of country, then invading and using the occupied part as military base, and "freed" people as "cannon meat" in its next war....

Russia bullied its way into so many countries during its heyday of the Soviet Union. Russia deposited their countrymen in all of these countries, giving them jobs in all the industrial areas because it was easier to work with them.
I feel that at the fall of the Soviet Union, the Russian speakers should have gone back to Russia if they wanted to be Russians, instead of stirring up so much trouble. The only way to deal with a bully is to protect all weaker and stronger parties from them through a unified resolve...
When I was a grade schooler, a bully that was a senior in high school would attack the grade schoolers at the bus stop at the grade school... This went on for several weeks until another high senior that did not usually ride the bus saw him hurting the grade schooler's... He caught the bully and literally beat the snot out of him... The bully never touched one of the grade schoolers again...

This woman has a good head on her shoulders and her point is a good one; they need some sort of back-up in order to go as far as they'd really like to. I can fully understand the feeling of these countries who are currently expected to go it alone not wanting to bite off more than they can chew.

Same with Russia, the smaller countries need to come together as one force to fight Its huge army. Why isn't the same with every country that needs "freedom and democracy" whenever the USA feels like it wants to make money and politics out of war?
What you're seeing here is not a school of small fish, the only small fish are the strategically convenient puppets like Portugal, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, North Macedonia. NATO is a club of bullies and their lapdogs, devised to be a leveraging organization for USA to make their power felt around the globe in a cheaper, falsely legitimised, and dissimulated way.
Nations shouldnt be afraid of the USA and NATO to the point where they are forced out of their neutrality and join them, and then blindly support them militarily, economically and politically.
No nation should underestimate USA's capability and goals of undermining every democratic government that stands in the way of their maintenance as "global superpower"; we have decades of accounts and history saying what happens if america thinks you're in the way. Toppling legitimate governments and putting puppets, making proxy wars, spinning alternate narratives to reality, are all very much seasoned tools that the americans make use of frequently.
May this new Cold War that america started end up with the collapse of the techno-barbarian state that is the USA, and pave the way for a multilateral world, where there's no Big Brother telling you what's the their truth is "the truth" and that standing with the greater good is blindingly supporting the USA's agenda.
