Just a correction, United scouts didn't say Caicedo wasn't good enough. The problem was the transfer was very complex with multiple parties claiming interest/involvement. Brighton had experience in the South American market, and had experience with one of the agencies involved (having dealt with them when signing Billy Arce). That helped Brighton navigate a complex transfer situation, while United shied away from it.
That’s another poor reflection on Woodward’s handpicked negotiator, Judge. United have been naive in the transfer market ever since David Gill left.
But at just 4million surely the risks wasn’t huge ?
@@civildiscourse7626 It wasn't about risk exactly, it was just complicated. Multiple parties claiming to represent the player or having a stake/interest in any deal. South American transfers can be particularly complicated sometimes. United walked away because they didn't want to deal with a transfer that would be so complex. Brighton were able to step in and get it done, they had dealt with one of the agencies involved, and had bought from the selling club (Independiente) in the past. Smart well run club Brighton. They have lot's of good technical players, but I seriously think Caicedo could end up being one of the best players in the world.

Centre backs work as a pair, so bringing one cb in means he's still going to be playing alongside one of the useless trio of Maguire, Lindelof and Varane
Yeah I downloaded a job application form from the Utd website. Said "defender needed, 1.5 hours per week. Salary £15million. Defending experience would be advantageous but not essential as full training will be given" just waiting to hear back.
