Someone being honest and not trying to sell something for the sake it nowadays is worth the praise.

Thanks Lucas, appreciate your main point:
the current apps don't measure how well you actually plan your projects, they instead attempt to reward you for more ticking tasks off & want you to use their app more ...like drugs.
Very good point man, really appreciate it😉👍🏻

Thanks for sharing your thoughts man! After really obsessing over this pkm/gtd/productivity stuff, I’ve moved to having analog systems Bullet Journal lte and Obsidian for notes. Learning more about my psychology and getting healthier has done more for my productivity than any has done tbh. Keep it up bud!

Brother, I completely understanding your the frustration within the productivity field. Thank you for the transparency you displayed here. This was pretty bold. Gamification is something that I really enjoy in productivity. My opinion is a little biased because I am a gamer. however, I agree that gamification should not be the methodology of why a person should do work. It is fun to me and I enjoy it. It should be something that could be turned off and on. Aproductivity application should work for you and most of them don’t . They are tools, and we should use them as such. We are moving into the age of AI, and we are seeing interesting integrations that completely change the game. (Look at what Taskade is doing) I felt the same frustration with the productivity field as you do when we last spoke. After our conversation I started using the app called Twos. I made it my own productivity style based off of a GTD and BASB hybrids mixed in the a little bullet journaling . I founded my own harmony with the simplicity i require with the app being %100 free. It’s good to see grow. Your content, wisdom and friendship is golden.

So much value in this comment, thanks Nolan!
As long as you can have fun with it, these gamification features are not a problem.
I'm also glad we can turn them off most of the time. They're not good for perfectionists or people with addictive personalities (like myself). Understanding what it all means is half the battle though 💪
Great to see you've continued developing out your system and found an app to support it! Thanks for sharing your insights as always 🤜🤛

Three thoughtful points. I agree the first two. I found with Notion that I was working to maintain it rather than becoming more productive. Likewise personal systems that can evolve over time and so strengthen are better than fixed ones. I am less sure on your last point. TH-cam is what it is: we all know its limitations and how it works and where the bear traps lie and how to avoid them. I liked the style of tis video: made for a nice change from techie stuff.

I appreciate this frank video. "Gamifying" things seems helpful at first, but is no good if it steals time from your main goals. I appreciate the guidance to use these apps as little as possible.

Agreed. Some dopamine rush when checking off a task is great, but gamifying can fake out that signal for something that's not actually accomplishing the task.

    Decent conclusions!
Yep - the most dangerous thing (especially in Todoist) is when you start to use a to-do app (especially Todoist) your focus switched from your tasks and goals to Todoist tasks and goals (for ex.: learn this, use this, try this etc.)
I suppose simplicity is rule #1

Users are losers and sometimes abusers (of productivity apps!) As much as I love Amplenote I just couldn't find my groove. I will try again with it soon because they keep adding more things to flesh it out. However I went back to oneNote for the last few months. I'm more familiar with it and have my own system based loosely on GTD type organization/Second Brain. I am a huge procrastinator and I've learned to live with it despite the inconvenient rush to finish something. A productivity app or method has never changed that for me. Call it lazy.. I call it living my life. I like a tool I can mold to take advantage of my work spurts and at best start them sooner and get more done while the gears are turning. It's not supposed to be a game.. The things I do while I'm not working at "peak productivity", whatever that is, actually help me approach a problem/project better when it's panic time!

Thanks for making it real....I'm guilty of falling for all of that and glad you pointed it out. Yup...lots of productivity Guberoos touting every app under the sun.
TickTick is one the leaner ones so I can see why you've stuck with it for this long. Nice job on this video.

I agree with you about this. I dived into the productivity stuff not so long ago, when my coworker shared with me the idea of GTD, then I read the book, then started looking for an app (that's how I found your channel). And what I can say..
1)There's no perfect app, unfortunately. Not perfect app just for my needs, but for GTD-enjoyers in general. I feel your pains regarding the TickTick, I have even more. Wanna better? You're welcome to use more complex apps with a whole bunch of team collaboration stuff, that makes it harder to just fill new ideas into the inbox at least. So, I'd like to hear your own thoughts, or a flow of making a decision regarding the replacement for TickTick (I've seen in comments under one of the recent videos that you're looking for alternative)
2)software, SAAS (software as a service) is a business model, and it's okay to pay for what you're using. I'd say, it's even better to pay, because as it said, if you're not paying for a product, then you're a product.
3)those productivity guys... omg, I just feel sick of them. Exactly those you've posted in your video, lol. Buy a fake plant to be 2x productive, buy my own stationary that is optimized for productivity, here's my own method how to use 57 apps simultaneously as a productivity system and how I made 1 million $ using it, etc. That sucks. But as you mentioned, here, on youtube, this is just the way how it works. So its audience's responsibility and their choice. The same way some girls on tiktok have millions of views creating just digital wastes.
You're super underrated author IMO. Good luck to you. You don't have so many followers, and even less commenters, but people value that you're close to them, that you make videos they're asking about, that you give advices and honest replies instead of just telling everybody "please book a private consulting session and I'll answer your questions"

Well said. I have been jumping around TH-cam for many months watching reviews on apps to use. This has caused me great confusion and as a result spent many pounds on apps. I have watched this video and actually realised all I need is a method for note taking and tasks. I write lots of systems at work and have lots of projects and tasks to juggle, and now I have finally settled on using Amplenote and AnyDo. Amplenote for notetaking and fleshing out projects and AnyDo for single tasks and reminders. I was using Tick Tick but there is just too many features and I was spending so much time tweaking my system. AnyDo is set on how you use it as with Amplenote but both are versatile enough to offer solutions for all my needs. Both have 2 way sync to my calendar and both have quick capture for tasks. Watching your video has finally settled me down to using just 2 apps instead of around 5 or 6 as I was. Keep up the good work and thank you for your guidance and support you offer on your channel.
