- In this episode I'm diving into the world of training talented horses.
It's easy to take their abilities for granted, but rushing through exercises without a proper preparation, and the right explanation of all the steps, can lead to issues later on.
Take flying changes for example. While a less talented horse requires careful steps like perfecting transitions, it can seem quite easy and effortlessly for a talented horse.
The danger in this?
Without groundwork, also the talented horses can struggle when expectations rise.
The same goes for trailer loading. A horse may load smoothly, but without the right explanation of the entire trailer loading process, they might face challenges later on.
So whether it's a flying change or trailer loading, it's best to treat all horses with equal attention.
It's really important to explain each step to set them up for lasting success! 💪

Laughed out loud when you said …. Nowhere is not a place. It is just a place that you did not recognize yet. Brilliant!
This is a very thoughtful video and perfect to hear where I am in my training. I'm one of your online students and love whats developing between me and my OTTB. Thank you!
Very interesting. It reminded me of a horse I had when I was not very knowledgeable yet. My horse some how got the message of what I wanted but I didn't even know myself exactly what the aides should be. So everything was fine until it wasn't. I wish I had at that time someone as experienced as you to explain what happens psychologically in the horses mind and body.
A very in depth explanation of the difference between getting them to do it, and teaching them to do it. Outstanding!!
This is such important advice, and so often exactly the endless loop of discussion I have with clients. They will tell me that another trainer said they were sure horse XYZ could surely already do ZYX, and I why I am not giving it a go. So we, the people teaching horses, should ALL scream that off the roofs of wherever we happen to be!;)
Such a great message!! 🙌🏽
Feels like excellent advice.
