How dare you cut the 30 seconds where Seth has to figure out how to cast a Chalice of the Void while there's a Trinisphere in play. I wanted to see his reaction to the bizarre form you have to fill out to do that.
Not playing Magic is my favorite Magic.
I miss it, but I don't miss hasbro
There is a limited amount of fun to be had, and I intend to have all of it.
the wincon is your opponent selling their collection and only playing limited from now on
Friends don't let friends do Magic.
I sold my collection 5 years ago to buy a high end PC and you’re absolutely right! Why play this decadent ex game when I can play Street Fighter 6, the Arkham games, Elden Ring, GOW, etc etc…🚬🗿
RIP Simian Spirit Guide 🕊 (2021)
Welcome back Ugin's Labyrinth ❤ (2024)
12:30 On both online clients, when a card without a text box gains something that would add to a text box, it gains a text box to show this change. As MODO doesn't have a UI overlay to show ownership like arena does, it instead places it in the text box for when control and ownership aren't the same. This is the reason why it has a text box, thanks for coming to my TED talk.
it gained text ("Owned by Saffron Olive") and MTGO needed a way to display that, so it gave The One Ring a textbox
Thank you for your TED Talk
He should have played trinisphere when he had the chance first game. Would have shut down the counters
It would have had the same effect as chalice that turn anyways Lol Seth be goofy sometimes ngl
fr lol

5:57 And that friends, is why we cast Trinisphere first.
Man, walked right into that much deserved counterspell at the start of M1G1. No real upside to playing Chalice first there and tons of upside to the 3ball.
“Our opponents are being obnoxious”
-Seth, the prison player.
👀 lol
NGL I play a similar style though. I love prison.
Lol. Him getting salty because his The One Ring was stolen by a coin flip. Then him getting salty that an opponent could use the same sol lands as him to cast a Karn.
I get it, though. I get grumbly when my brew of terrible cards barely held together by OP cards is beat by the same OP cards+other good cards.
Oh boy, my favorite way to enjoy prison decks in magic, watching someone else play them
What lost you M1G1 was 100% not casting trinisphere instead of chalice of the void on turn two
Yeah, I've played a lot of legacy white stax back in the day... your option is 100% chance of time walk because your opponent only has one land unless they have a force, so always run that out first and make your opponent have it. If they don't, it protects your next spell, too.
Seth dying to Tron g1 because he didn't play the chalice on 1 when he could have and they got to map to get tron post-emrakul is poetic justice.
Too much setup in the format today. 8 mana ring vs 4 mana ring is too many hoops id wager
He just passed, right? Like he had no reason not to play it?
"do something about the price of the one ring" ban it? Is there any reason to keep it? Is there an archtype it is allowing/preventing that would be bad for the format?
Honestly that’s why The One Ring needs a ban. It doesn’t enable a specific archetype but instead it’s so good the card can be slotted into any deck. The value that the card generates and the built in protection makes it an include in everything which, in turn, is why it’s so expensive; nearly all the tier one Modern decks run multiple copies.
@@starcrossedother Yeah, that is what I was thinking. My only question was if it was preventing a boogey man archtype from being played. I honestly don't keep up with the meta, so for all I know it could have been preventing something like Mirrodin level affinity from being played. If it is just an auto include, the format does not need it... It also can never be reprinted, as it is a universes beyond card, as I am pretty sure that even if they do a reprint with "counts as the one ring for deck building purposes" they would have to pay *something* for simply using those words again.
interesting to not just play the trinisphere on 2 when opponent was tapped out and had only 1 land in play. You would have completely locked them, and it would be just as good as chalice against a 1-drop and better against a 2-drop, when they only had 2 lands. Plus you just used your mana less efficiently. can you explain what went into decision to cast chalice?
I love the comment about ruby storm being the number 1 deck in modern and it needing ban after MH3 the Naduing. It really dates this video given ruby storms abysmal performance.
I was wondering if this was filmed before the Protour.
@@frizbehobit9919 it was you can see the date when he checks the meta page on goldfish
Nadu is much worse on mtgo because of the clock lol
@@frizbehobit9919Had to be given the statement in game 1 against Storm.
This furthers my opinion that symmetrical lock pieces are the best/most fair way to do things. Karn TGC, while I think Seth's hatred/fear/etc is mostly unfounded, I think does show the problem, quite succinctly, with how bad one-sided lock pieces are. It's not obviously game-winning and when it doesn't matter it's pretty bad, but also draws out the game in a bad way even when it does matter.
50:55 perfect chance for a turn-2 Thought-Knot, he chooses not to, it costs him the game!
Tolkien: And there was one ring to rule them all…
Mtg: But what about second the one ring?
Tolkien: What? No there’s just one ring, that’s the point.
Mtg: Don’t you know about second the one ring? Third the one ring? Fourth the one ring? Full play set of the one ring?
1st game demonstrates how truly obnoxious and poorly designed that card is.
Too be fair every legendary card there is supposed to be only one of ie there’s only one karn or one Ulamog
Honestly the most impressive feat is a whole Modern league without running into Nadu
All the Nadu players are recovering from carpal tunnel syndrome.
This was apparently recorded before PT Nadu, when people were still trying things out
Doing the combo online is brutal
took me so long to realize you were playing against spike in the 3rd(?) round
Restricting The One Ring to 1 copy is the most flavorful ban/restriction ever.
I hope people like you realize eventually that if you restrict it all it will do is make it so only Karn, The Great Creator decks can run it and then you will have real inbalance.
Also the point of The One Ring is that it tempts everyone to use it so its already very flavorful.
It's fine if Karn can tutor it, stong build around card are ok. The problem with this card is that you can put it in any deck and make them much better. The scenario you're describing mean it won't be 60% of the meta anymore, now to play the one ring consistantly you'll have to make sacrifice.
@@Dext3rM0rg4n Everyone asking for a ban conveniently forgets about the fact it's colorless and therefore it is natural for it to see more play than any other staple in the format.
Also pls don't use tournament data as hard evidence for anything, those events have their own meta or else we should pretend like Yawgmoth and Amulet Titan don't exist anymore even tho they are still amongst the best decks even after mh3.
@@JulioDRaieasy, just ban karn
@@JulioDRai restricting to 1 copy has nothing to do with making it harder to find, although that is an ancillary benefit. It’s actually about removing the play pattern of easily chaining Rings together to subvert the design of the card (progressive damage). The current play pattern of getting the ring up to like 4 counters, which means you’ve drawn 10 cards from it, then playing another Ring, which you have because you’ve drawn an extra 10 cards, so you don’t lose 5 life is the problem. It’s against the spirit of the card. It’s supposed to be hard to remove (indestructible) and progressively does damage to you (flavor design).
Bring back rough drafts!! You used to do it every set 😢
Love how this deck just randomly throws down huge haymakers from out of nowhere.
Eldrazi Temple should let you get double colorless for Kozilek's Command (Kindred Eldrazi), so you should have been able to get 4 spawns instead of 2
THIS ^
Had to scroll way to far for this comment.
@@notsm Damping sphere says no I'm pretty sure
Seth, could it be possible to make a video explaining all the tips and tricks for playing MTGO? I made an account and got a modern goblins deck but the client isn't very easy to figure out. They went from barely any tutorial to the longest tutorial on Arena. 😂
Anyway, I can't figure it out and I just gave it up and haven't tried playing in like a year.
Seth ,theoreticaly, Ulamog gains more anihilator when u put more counters on it, so with +1+1 counters u can put that number higher
Man, Valakut decks are on a legue of their own in terms of how annoying it can make playing magic
Eldrazi temple and kozileks command working is awesome!!!
Day 2 of MOTO and Bloodmooning fools. Much respect.
Prison was always tied for my favourite archetype with tempo flash.
Love this strategy of trying to lock em out. So much harder now days without our noble friend and companion SSG who tragically died for the sins of Tibalt and Ad Naseum Storm.
That said, having a Sol land really seems to make up for that deficiency a little.
Glad to see you locking so successfully again in 2024.
29:00 don't forget you can use eldrazi temple mana for Kozilek's Command!
Never change with the prison content Seth♥
Why would you turn 2 chalice over trinisphere?
Right?
The cuuuuurvveee
I wonder with your storm opponent had wear/tear or shattering spree in the side board. They scooped pretty quickly in game 3. I have been playing storm and I have 2 wear/tear and a spree along with 2 static prison for this match up.
at 29:00 can't you tap the eldrazi temple for 2 colorless to cast kozilek's command?
Not with Damping Sphere
this dude is pure onions
“Magic the way Tolkien intended” 🤣
its Jail time!!
I wish trinisphere was on arena. I want in for my green eldrazi ponza deck. It's on archidekt if anyone wants to know.
Seth showing off his ability to play stax on MODO by effortlessly casting a chalice when there's a 3 ball on the field
33:30 zzz's in chat from a Valakut player? Oh modo, never change
Imagine blue tron with ulamog and tashas laughter together.
Question: Why Through the Breach instead of Sneak Attack?
One is a one time sorcery and the other is a repeatable enchantment. For a one time use they cost the same, but the potential for sneak to work multiple turns is higher, it also gives something your opponents need to deal with after you use it once.
Since after casting it, you get to hold priority to drop a creature first before they can remove it, it makes it better, don't you think?
Sneak isn’t legal in modern
@ryanhebertson7457 oh, enchanted tales isn't modern? Didn't know. Ok
@OdinMagnus all cards printed in enchanted tales are just reprints. All the cards are only legal in formats were they have previously been printed into. So some are legal and others are not.
@ADudeWhoExperiences1393 oh OK. I thought they were like how modern horizons or commander stuff is just for modern or commander. But there are many cards printed that don't make it to arena as well.
Hey Seth, was this recorded before the PT? Also very strange I don't think you had any nadu matches
Yes, he mentions the "upcoming" protour at ine point
29:40 If you exile emrakul and breach ulamog, they're immediately dead vs basically dead qith emrakul
So hear me out........Void Mirror. >:)
sometimes your opponent just assembles tron twice
@37:24 you could have done the thing, right? Exile an emerakul to the land and breach a 22/22 ulamog?
My commentary on the games
Game 1
Should've played trinispere on 2 over chalice as trinispere would lock out 1 drops for a turn (so you can get chalice down next turn) but also locks out all spells as they would only have 2 mana
Game 3 I believe (the one against amulet)
Like minor play error if you exile emrakul you can breach the ulamog for lethal, does it matter no they lose basically regardless but it does Opt out of some random fiction
Game 1, why not Boseiju half of their board? Blood moon, the amulets that could cast counterspell?
I don't know if Mycosynth lattice would be too strong without Karn but I am willing to try if it means we ban Karn. Feels wrong that you have a sideboard that is a toolbox on game 1 instead of sideboarding like the rest of us.
At 29:10, you could have cast Kozilek's Command for 4 instead of 2 by tapping Eldrazi Temple for 2 each.
He could not. Opponent had a Damping Sphere on the battlefield.
Anyone else here who used to think trinisphere + chalice on 3 just countered everything?😅
I know Seth was referring to simply casting Ulamog, but don't forget Mtg players, you can just add counters to Ulamog via other spells that do such effects, or imagine having a Double Season out when you cast Ulamog and get an Emrakul to be the target of Ulamog's ability? NOT that you need that many counters, but still........ :D
Funnily enough, if you Ephemerate Ulamog, it will see itself in exile and enter with at least 10 counters
@@ruudvanlaarhoven5776 ???? How so???? It's not in exile when it enters.
More control. More prison. More modern. Please and thank you.
Checks notes: a +15/15 Ulamog is as big as it can get in Modern.....Impervious Greatwurm anyone?
Ulamog's effect is dependent on the mana value, not the power/toughness.
Gotta pour one out for three ball
We’re not dirty Karn players… this week 😉
If the one ring gets banned in modern can we add karn the great creator in the deck to replace the one ring or some other card that will help the deck alot? Because I don't mind the one ring but it's just annoying for someone like me who wants to play elves or goblins or affinity or some kind of creature based deck that wants to smash face by combat damage and can someone name some cards that will be great for this deck as a replacement for the one ring once it gets banned in modern
Do you have Questing Beast in deck or sideboard?
@@ADudeWhoExperiences1393 no but I'm planning too but not for this deck but for Jund death shadow
37:50 could have just exiled bloodghast from grave with command
Seth! Play me on spelltable!
seeing those bloodghast i think we need a better trinisphere: for a spell to cast or a card to enter that wasn't cast they need to have payed a minimum of 3. bloodghast but you have to enter a land and pay 3 thats the true spirit of trinisphere
Why did they leave two creatures back at 38:37 when neither of them can block anything you play?
One ring granting protection from everything for the turn
Finally some Modern!
How did your opponent get protection when he gained control of it with Invert Polarity? He didn't cast it!
Musta been a second since you’ve played prison Seth 🤣 that game 1 chalice over sphere,,,, questionable
Why isnt he using eldrazi temple for 2 mana for eldrazi spells... like kozeleks command at 29:06 ?
Well at the time stamp he can’t because of damping sphere, but I feel like he may have made that mistake other times
You love to see the dirty control player, dirty storm player, dirty scam player, and dirty amulet titan player getting absolutely dunked on. Too bad you couldn't also dunk on the dirty Tron player too.
generally better to keep old one ring, you take more damage and only get more cards 2 turns later
Also, there is ZERO world where I ever play chalice before trinisphere in round 1
It's not the literal biggest Ulamog possible, you can exile Impervious Greatwurm and get 16 counters instead of 15.
Is WotC ready to ban this attricity of a card yet, or are they just gonna reprelint it 2 more times before they admit colorless card draw with no fownside is to strong?
How on earth do you not Trinisphere befroe Chalice? Like, that's obvious isn't it?
You get bigger with vorinclex...
Ugghh. Don't feel like paying 400$ for rings.
NGL, not true prison, this deck should run Blood Moon 😂
"That was very much a Trinisphere game."
No, every game is a One Ring game, it's all about who gets more One Rings
Ngl the thumbnail looks sus
You can delve to beat trinisphere but the wackiest delve cards are banned
Wow 10 minutes of nothing happening 😳
I find the combo of Chalice and Trinisphere kind of odd. Chalice is most commonly played on 1 and 2, as 6 mana can usually be spent in better ways, but Trinisphere invalidates that by making every spell cost at least 3 mana. You'd think they would hurt each other.
Chalice cares about mana value not mana spent to cast. Spending 3 mana to cast a Bolt through a Trinisphere still gets countered by Chalice on 1
@@nickschmucker8836 ah, didn't catch that, I thought Trinisphere changed the actual mana cost/CMC, and would therefore affect Chalice.
Game 1 is so hard to watch. You 100% should have led on trinisphere as it would have stopped them from playing anything on turn 2, which would have let you resolve both chalice.
I love it when Magic players get salty because your ridiculously stupid deck wins before their ridiculously stupid deck.
Watched the first 2 min. Remembered why i dont play modern.
The one ring may go down as the worst deigned card in card game history.
ooooh! A new vid from Seth! Booooo it's on MODO
And then he goes and says that control is not good content...
Lock em up
Bip bup. Nice video
Damping Sphere prevents lands from tapping for more then one mana. If you want to call something a punt in that game it would be not putting Emrakul under the land and breaching the Ulamog for the kill instead of breaching the Emrakul for the functional but not quite kill.
@@seangoldman6833 huh. Thank you
Plays a lockout deck, complains about Blood Moon. 🤦♂️🤣
not playing trinisphere first is idiotic you deserve what happened
I wish arena had more formats!!! I hate watching mtgo.
HELLO WORLD
I am the second comment
so you took the current version of Through the Breach, cut 4 Ancient Stirrings and 4 Thought-Knot Seer for 4 Chalice of the Void and 4 Trinisphere and thought that was enough of difference to call it a much abrew deck?
You won't get more "much abrewed" than this with the existence of pushed modern horizons cards. You have to compete with them, and to do so you can't go out of the norm too much.
@@posaiduck1131 there are a bunch of people trying new decks and getting results. Aspiringspike for example has played a lot of nonmeta lists and done well
You're thinking of Against the Odds. Much Abrew is focused on playable competitive decks as long as they are interesting and not top tier. Usually they're not even brewed by Seth.
@kelvinliu-huang5955 I am not. This series is about brews, and this deck does count since it was made before we knew the meta, but the problem is that it was posted a lot later than it was filmed.
Love yourontent but can't watch magic online such a trash system hard to follow compared to arena
