  • Roger Federer is known for his cool, calm, and collected demeanour. However, his '19 Shanghai Masters campaign brought out his inner frustrations, particularly towards umpire Nacho Forcadell. Federer becomes irate and contests the unsportsmanlike code violations he receives throughout the match.

@master man thats complete bs, new balls are so much faster than the balls you just played with, its so clear youve never played tennis on an even remotely close level to these guys. Debatable look at Novak he can talk in 10 different languages and wanted lower ranked players to get better pay.
He could technically talk in each Countries respective home language
Stood his ground and fought for freedom of choice something Nadal didn't bother bringing it up he just took that shot and that was that
      And Novak still isn't done
He's going to make Carlos even better then what Carlos would have been if Novak wasn't around or still competitive even as old as he is
On top of that Novak might not even retire for a while still bringing us great matches and inspiring us to compete even at an old age we shall see though how long Novak lasts
Then you also have Nadal who also helped Tennis a lot as well and out of the big 3 he is the only one who never has smashed a racquet nor hardly got into fights with Umps.
Lets see if Nadal can help Carlos become even better come next year as well going to be interesting as hell

ATP rulebook: "Players shall not violently, dangerously or with anger hit, kick or throw a tennis ball while on the grounds of the tournament site except in the
reasonable pursuit of a point during a match (including warm-up). For purposes of this rule, abuse of balls is defined as intentionally or recklessly hitting a ball out of the enclosure of the court, hitting a ball dangerously or recklessly within the court or hitting a ball with disregard of the consequences".
While in this case it's kinda debatable it's a pointless argument (particularly about the path of the ball) in my view and Roger isn't right. It's a ball clearly hit out of anger and most probably landing outside of the stadium, in the grandstands or in a corridor (as in this case) difficult to fetch it and bring it back to keep the set of balls in place. That's the reason why I agree with Novak's default at the US Open.
And Nacho is apologising to Roger something useful to measure the double standards of tennis umpires towards top players which some players have rightly complained about.

    • @thebigsquirrel50
      @thebigsquirrel50 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Hard to argue when the rule literally states what is supposed to happen.
Problem is this: fans just can't see the rules for what they are. Their man simply "can't do wrong."
While the speed of this "angry hit" is less than 99% of all other ball abuse point penalties, the umpire was right. It doesn't matter that it is Roger Federer.
And, since you mentioned it, although Novak's strike towards the umpire was less speed than probably 100% of all other defaults, it's still correct. It doesn't matter that it is Novak Djokovic.
Obviously in short, I agree with you 100%.

Because the rules are written by some conservative, elitist old men who don't want athletes or people to ever express themselves. You’re right to a point. Federer was leading by a set and it was in the second set tie break with the Swiss trailing. Del Potro held on to claim the second set tie break 7-5, but Federer hit back to take the third set 6-4 and was 6-5 up in the fourth. So your narrative is wide of the mark, albeit you could potentially argue Federer could have won in straight sets (by winning the second set tie break), had he not been frustrated by the Argentine taking extra long to successfully challenge.

Bottom line is, Federer is a legendary player but he doesn’t always handle losing very gracefully. He knows time is running out for him, he can’t make the same shots he used to all the time and now he’s chucking his toys out the pram. It’s just bad behaviour, full stop. Unfortunately, many of the die-hard fans choose to ignore the fact that Roger has always had a fiery temper, going all the way back to his youth, he just displays it differently as he’s grown older. He certainly took umbridge during Rolland Garros this year because he was having to get his own towel! Jeezo pal, how about growing up now and stop acting like a brat because you’re not getting special treatment over and above other people? Rules are rules and no one should be above them. The umpire in this case, was very patient in describing exactly the process that the laws dictate he has to follow, even if he was personally sympathetic

He was annoyed that he was being penalised for going to the towel and being late for Cilic's serve, but that Cilic was still not ready when he gets there 'cos of his ball bouncing. He did not have a problem having to get his own towel. Fed has demonstrated enough salt and pissy behaviour over the years without y'all having to make shit up, ffs.

@@SmoothNSuss Not really, the OP's point was pretty bad. Federer was stating a very specific grievance that he has with umpires, that they say that they will remind him 1 game before new balls but they don't end up doing that, which is a very reasonable issue to bring up. That's not something that stops somebody from becoming world no. 1 though so idk what Victor was trying to say.

Am I the only one who thinks that there's something missing there regarding the rules in tennis ? Loll....why the umpires and players are always arguing ? Are rules not clear ? Why Roger after 20 years is still asking about rules and hiting the ball outside the court and new balls ...?? I don't get it! 🥴🤔🤔🤔😁😁😁😁
