Thanks for also showing things you thought you did wrong and explaining why you thought it went wrong (even though it still looks great in my opinion). Refreshing to see somebody not pretending to be perfect but just showing the process of learning as well.

I think you are hard on yourself. You paint beautifully. It is inspiring me. I was without any doubt of successful painters in art world, a young talented art student. My mother and then my husband blocked me at every turn. Refusing to let me follow my destiny. Confusing. Now they are long gone from Earth and 2022 I began painting again. This time I began teaching myself watercolor. With help from people like you I am progressing. My passion has always bern light, shadows, reflections. Thank you.

Thank you for your kind comment. ❤

The running commentary while painting is honestly more instructive than any tutorial, because as a beginner I get some insight into the thought process of your art (which I can apply in different contexts) rather than just being told what to do for one specific piece. Super helpful, thanks!

You are wonderful for sharing your talent and inspiring so many of us! At first I didn't want you to downplay your beautiful work by saying you had goofed or should have tried something else, but then I realized that you are helping walk us through something that is not easy, and that makes you an excellent teacher. I'm 70 and recently decided to renew my interest in watercolors. You know how zoos sometimes have gorillas and other animals paint pictures that can then be sold in the gift shops? Sadly, that's what my paintings remind me of.
I have been fighting cancer since 2012 and I guess it's finally going to win. I recently agreed to hospice care, but I'm going to enjoy painting until they carry me off, and you are going to help keep my paintings from being sold at zoo gift shops! Thank you, Noelle. :)

Thank you for your kind comments, I’m glad you understood the purpose of this video. I’m always learning and experimenting, and I wanted to show that there are a lot of trials and errors in painting, so don’t worry yourself about trying something new and becoming discouraged. Enjoy yourself and have fun painting! Don’t concern yourself if your work doesn’t look like another artists work; paint what pleases you.
Pretty soon those zoo animals are going to be jealous of your art, and maybe even some people too!

Totally awesome. As you may agree to someday. I think that using bigger papers helps a lot. But I use acrylics. It also helps to accept the cloud you get instead of comparing it to the idea in your head. To most viewers I think you painted the perfect clouds. It also helps to study how clouds are formed, where and why. This way you can form them as they are formed in nature. Basically they start forming at a certain height and rise upwards and drift away. But after a while they are reshaped and wind and rain tear them apart. For acrylics you mix in 75% of white in the clouds farthest away and make them merge with the sky. Then add more contrast/ drama and clear paint and formations to the closest clouds. Also daytime clouds are harder to paint than evening clouds. Hope this helps and that all ppl start painting big skies. It's really healthy.

This is really helpful, not only for me but for others as well! I agree with everything that you said. Bigger art surfaces make it easier to paint large washes so it’s easier to control details. Understanding the science behind a subject is helpful to draw/paint something too! Thanks for commenting!

This has to be the greatest watercolor painting video I have seen in this month (if not year!), I love how it stays true to its title: "study". You did an amazing job but most importantly, it's clear that you learned a lot and shared your thoughts about it without being demeaning to your work. You did these beautifully. I love sky scenes and am inspired to give this a go after watching you do it. It was so relaxing watching this and the music you used in the background added to the serenity of the experience.

Thank you! I'm glad my cloud studies inspired you! I also like making my videos calm and positive space to retreat to, even if I am critical of myself, it's all about learning and the experience!
