everytime I watch these serial murder stories make me realize that sadly the world is full of so unbalanced opposite mind of human being. Some are like those hikers who helped and molly's dad who are achieving so higher level of understanding of the humanity on good side, and the others are like this murderer, who never have chance or develop to even understand the beauty of the world.

Yep.. I tell people the same thing all the time…
Because in countless years of being alone in the woods, the only animal I ever had any problem with was a human.
Changed the way I viewed things real quick..
Bears leave you alone, so does everything else.. but “that guy” ? Nah.. that’s a straight up predator. 😖😖 awful.

Its always crazy to me when people try to blame drugs on their crime. As someone with more than one personality disorder & a life time of experience self medicating with drugs & alcohol, it is true that someone who is aggressive may become violent when using, you don't randomly rape & murder people.

    • @MargotMugs

THIS! Spent over a decade on mostly opioids and other prescription uppers and downers but also, cocaine & heroin.
Never once had the urge or psychotic break that the defense was stating that monster had! Not saying it can't happen but facts are this guy's liked killing others, he liked to take from them what he lacked... A soul.
      Rest together, Jeff and Molly.
I wish I could've met you both. What wonderful people you were and the kind this world has so little of it seems...😢

    • @SebastianDingleswitch
      @SebastianDingleswitch ปีที่แล้ว +10

My psychosis always only made me fear, not violent - i have an anxiety disorder - all it does is amplify your inner nature. You don't get drunk and cheat accidentally, you're a cheater who lost their inhibitions. This guy, lost his and that was his true nature. Hope he rots.

We we’re still terrified that something would happen to him because he hiked the whole trail alone but he fared well. I know he met with hikers who pointed out the journal entries the couple made. He made a point to look for their monikers afterwards. Thanks for covering this- we’re from Mass and I can tell you after hiking with this friend in the White Mountains of NH that I’m not cut out for this activity. I come from a long line of naturalists, much of which has hiked at least part of the AT. My Great Uncle David was instrumental in setting up parts of the trail. His lack of empathy was done in baby and toddlerhood from receiving no love and nurturing. It appeared to be irreversible and have no cure, not even with adoptive parents’ positive influence.
Jeff and Molly were gone too soon. They could have become great parents and contribute to community. AT is dangerous because how close to town the sections are. Anyone can wander into the trail to hide or do crime. Quite a lot of crime against hikers happened on AT.

I was raised similarly to the Duggars. Ive been in therapy for 5 years trying to recover from being abused in every way a daughter can be by her sick father and willfully obtuse mother. I used to be super religious and now Im deconstructing; I broke the cycles with my own kid (hes 21 and functional), but as an adult, Im convinced I shouldnt exist unless Im actively making others around me feel powerful.
Make no mistake: homeschooling and religion with the intent to keep a child from "the world" is absolutely a cover for severe abuse. And the kids may survive, but thriving is a dream that may not be realized.

I hiked the AT in 2011 I was 22 then. I started it from ME alone. No one told me most people start in GA. I only had a backpack and a tarp. It was the hardest hike Ive ever done and Ive hiked thru AZ to TX. I enjoyed the AT so much I have a tattoo on my arm. Id do it again but with someone. Water was the hardest thing to source and my food was oats and peanut butter. Waking up to get moving was becoming a motivation. Id get 25 to 30 miles a day in. In the whole time I was on the trail I only ran into maybe 8 people. You start to really get to know who you are. I ate blueberries with blackbears in VT and pissed my pants when I came across a lone bull moose. Thanks to the guy in VT for the bottle of wine and a fat steak, I ate it and popped the bottle on top a mountain that night. I hate the state of New York the people are assholes and I think I met a murderer on one of my hikes to town on a hwy. If I do it again im bringing my gun. A note to anyone wanting to try doing it dont sleep at the lean tos thats where the day hikers stay to camp. They're annoying and skip walking thru NY. You cant live life being scared but you can being aware and prepared

I am an avid hiker and explorer of north Florida, The Suwannee wilderness trail and the Florida Trail. So this is a sad and terrifying reality we live in. When I was a ranger someone asked if I was ever scared of closing up at night in the woods by myself and I said no, I'm more scared of people than nature. One lame fact is FL state parks won't let rangers carry mase on them.

I'm not faulting him at all by saying that. I just know I personally wouldn't be able to do it. I have heard people forgive these monsters to free themselves in order to move on and for other reasons. That's not my style. I'm more along the lines with her mother. Regardless, neither of them deserved the horrible fate handed to them years ago by that diabolical, depraved piece of sh-t. I was hiking the AT in Georgia, almost all of it in starts and stops around this time. Ran into a few strange characters. I never carried defensive means. Never would have occurred to me until I met one or two characters that I needed to be prepared for the worse case. Given the changes in the world if I were still hiking today, I'd first get a carry permit and have a gun holstered with me at all times. (It may be illegal to hike with a weapon. But I'd rather get a fine than be butchered in a trail shelter.)
