Ben Spitz So he deleted it? What a twat, someone else might have found it useful. Epic sad pathetic tweenager move of the year and another for my block list
Thank you and great explanations with examples. 95% of these videos are so technical that they do not reach beginners and just tech self agrandosing for the creator. This video is on point, easy to learn and applicable, as how to videos are supposed to be. Great job.
Well, I'd doubt if DSC were be here on Mexico at some point, but the other day I buyed a Cooler Master thermal compound, and they are sponsoring you so, that counts?
heh, for years, i only knew 'Yakity Saks' as the themesong to Clyde's TV Show from Quest For Ratings. great reference, Linus- i *always* appreciate your South Park references.
Just a clarification, 35mm focal length is a "standard" only on 135 film or 36x24mm "full frame" digital sensors found in professional DSLRs. On medium format 35mm is in the ultra wide territory and on something like mft sensors it's almost short telephoto already. Without sensor/film size the focal length really doesn't tell anything useful.
A good analogy I was taught about this was...Say you are looking through a window from across the room, the things you see out the window are limited to maybe the house across the street. If you move your face right up to the window you are able to see not only the house across the street but the up and down the street and all the other houses along with it. The focal length in this example is the distance from the window to your eye.
I think an interesting topic might be explaining (perhaps debunking some myths surrounding) the degradation of SSDs through writes. It feels as though a lot of people don't really understand this phenomenon well, so it could be useful to a lot of people. E.g, how much can you write to an SSD before you really need to get worried?
Ok, so wide angle lenses makes small things look bigger than the objects in the background? Also, you can put them on you phone? I should look into buying one. Because, you know, length matters.
Some important concepts were perhaps diminished in the simplification of what wide angle really means. It completely depends on the size of the sensor or film behind the lens. For example, a 25mm lens on a 35mm sensor will seem wide. Take that same lens and use it on a 16mm sensor and it will have pretty much the same field of view that a 50mm lens would have on a 35mm sensor. It wouldn't be wide at all, it would be "normal". In an IMAX camera a 50mm lens, normal in most average situations, would be a wide lens. So, in summary Linus, size matters!
it is very good explanation of how lence works, it will be interesting to watch video comparing different types of lenses used in cameras and how do they work as you explained in terms of physics.....
Next error is the picture of the Acropolis in Greece was photographed with a telephoto, not a wide-angle lens. It was tilt shift on top of it (or the blur effect was added in post).
Imagine looking at a city from afar. The entire city will be in focus because it's all on the same "plane", according to the point of view. Notice how lenses have an "infinity" option at the end of their focal range? This is because the closer an object is to a point of view (your eyes, a camera) the bigger change in focus is required to keep it in focus. Imagine looking at a table cluttered with stuff, and having your head at the table's level. If you look at the things at the front, the things at the middle and at the end of the table will be blurry and vice versa, yet the those things are obviously MUCH shorter distances apart from each other than any of the buildings in the aformentioned city. This is because the brain uses focus to determine distance and point of view. Now if you were to take a picture of the city from afar, and apply a tilt-shift affect (or use a tilt-shift lens) you would make the foreground and background blurry, while keeping the object of interest in focus - INSTEAD of the ENTIRE scene being in focus. This tricks the brain into thinking that the objects are VERY close together and at a small distance from the point of view. It's merely an optical illusion created by the brain, using focus. It's also called "miniature fake" because that's exactly what it does. It makes otherwise obviously huge areas and objects look tiny.
That's actually a really good idea for people new to PC's. Which is what this channel is for. If you actually want information on different OS, shoot me an email crackeddylmil@Gmail.com
CrackedDylMil putting your email in youtube comments, what could possibly could wrong. Other than you receiving 100000 spam emails and being registered to a bunch of gay erotica websites newsletter. You should just tell the guy to go visit the Linustechtips forum to learn more about them.
LOL, in a nuttshell: Windows - when you need to get things done. Best availability of specialized software, indispensable in CAD applications. Apple uses it in their factories to design and build their crap. Most versatile, will run/open almost anything. Customizable to the max if you know what you're doing. #pcmasterrace will sound familiar if you like to play games. Somewhat rubbish prior to Windows 7, Windows 8.1 being the most solid performer. Cloaked with olden tales of the blue screen of death, which is true for mostly pre-Winows7 systems, again 8.1 having none of that crap (at least on my machines). Mac OS - a linux-based operating system. They charge you for updates most of the time. Deemed by Kaspersky the most vulnerable OS (everybody complains about Windows being unsafe - Microsoft releases updates almost every day. Apple fans laugh, no updates happen. Results speak for themselves.). Simplified, according to a popular belief, although personally I find it just as 'confusing' as Windows. Good at integration between different devices (however Windows 10 is looking very promising there as well and FREE too!). Locked-down somewhat which may prevent you from messing things up (a good and a bad thing at the same time). Hardware looks nice, but is usually weaker than what it could be if a full-blown PC was bought. A lot of people end up running Windows on the side for work (ironic, isn't it...). Linux - comes in many flavours...waaaay too many! Very specialized, a lot less versatile than the others. Good for programming, I am told (why not just use Visual Studio on WIndows for that anyway..?). Some other operating systems come from its core (Android for phones, for example, and the very same Mac OS). Requires the least resources to run well (see: raspberry pi, android phones, etc). FREE and open-source (that's why so many variations of it). Had an american university student go crazy because of it on national television, deeming it crap and incompatible with a lot of hardware and software. MS DOS - if you have nothing better to do and your PC is as powerful as a calculator then you might want to try it. Either that, or use it to save money when buying a new PC.
OT: What I'm confused about & could use a tech video to explain is VR. I intend to buy a VR headset some time next year when they start being released, what's the difference between how they went about it and the aspect they focused on comparatively
Linus..... can we have a fast as possible of how the vibrations work in a phone because when I think of it all i see is the metal motors that spin in game controllers to cause vibration..... but surely they cant fit in a phone...... so how does a phone create such a powerful vibration?
I have a question. I'm planning on going into amateur films as well as travel photography. I've just bought the Nikon d5300, and now I'm looking for a wide/ultrawide lens. I've been looking through a million videos and reviews, but just can't get the answer I'm looking for. Can you guys suggest a wide lens 1. of around 500$ (used); 2. That's compatible to my Nikon d5300; 3. Will autofocus I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
hey linus, here are some suggestions for your next video a video about: -Chokes, diodes, capacitors, mosfets (mosfets plz)& more OR -kernels(Linux, windows NT, Unix etc), OR -firmware OR -wattage, voltage, amperage, ohms & more OR -VRM, Digi VRM & Digi+ VRM also plz vrm people have no clue and i would like to see a video you get accross really clearly OR -Filesystems (fat32, ntfs, ext4 etc) OR -Contrast ratio (this is just a worst case scenario suggestion) i'm not giving up until you do a video of my suggestions >__>
Can u tell us why smartphone cameras are not good enough and what should we consider in a smartphone camera other than mega pixels Thanks for this video Linus....
Here's another video food for thought, if you have not already included it..! Wide angle for concert shooting... Low light shooting in concerts can give great as well as ( in my case! ) poor snaps. What's your take on it all? Yes, I know most will agree that you need a tele-photo zoom say, 70-200 at f/2.8 or faster, but not eveyone can afford, or simply carry bulk. Showed your video to a group of teens learning the English language with a cultural aspect. Man, You were a hit, although the sponsored part was amusing to the point most thought you were actually acting out some comedy show like Friends!!! Keep up that banter!
One of my favourite Linus Segways ever.

That segway to Dollar Shave Club is the best ever
2:11 Parthenon, Athens, Greece. This photo is amazing. Greeting from Greece Linus!!
Absolutely love the recent camera videos you have been doing!
Did Linus make a South Park reference with the animals wearing hats with a wide angle lenses sentence?
I sure as hell got the reference
southpark.wikia.com/wiki/Animals_Close-Up_With_a_Wide-Angle_Lens_Wearing_Hats
That was in season 8, right?
+eugeneplusyeah Yeah!
The writing in this is just so good! The Segues were perfect! Awesome work guys!
The segues in this one were so spot on. Gotta say im actually impressed by the ad spot
How about technical specs in graphic cards explained, like CUDA core, pixel rate, etc... I tried to read about them but couldn't understand.
That dollar shave club segway!
EVERYTIME, I stop at "speaking of which"
Best segway yet Linus keep it up.
OMG Dollar shave club in NZ!!! Love you Linus!!! (PS good vid too!)
And have you done a video on prime lens? My students loved your ad again!
Linus, What is DNS SERVERS? and how to make it faster?
Ben Spitz i want linus to explain it though :D btw ty
Viba Botman did you delete his comment or am I just not seeing it?
Yeah, apparently. I thought I had posted a pretty good intro to DNS.... :(
I suppose Viba's not really in it for the knowledge.
Ben Spitz So he deleted it? What a twat, someone else might have found it useful.
Epic sad pathetic tweenager move of the year and another for my block list
Peanutsreveng3 Yep. I would write it out again, but I'm awfully tired, and I guess it would just be deleted for a second time.
Goddamit FAP teaches me so much.
Good job on FAP Linus!
Thank you for creating this video. I was literally after this video.

Is 18-55mm a wide angle lens?
Hi can I use one too for my camera? I film 4k and cant get too close without losing the subject. I do stationary filming with dmc fz1000
Thanks for the cool video Linus!
Haha, as if Linus needed a lense to make his nose look big ^^
Is it just me or should Brandon host ALL videos relating to Cameras and camera gear? No offense Linus though.
That thumbnail is so much more fun to look at after watching the video xD
The explanation of focal length isn't good
Length Matters....
Got me again Linus
Damg, that segue was awesome!
So I have a 35mm Nikon and an 18 - 55 mm so would that be wide lens? Cheers
Hi. Any app to correct barrel distortion?
This makes we want to buy a fisheye lens and make a rap video with a couple of friends.
Best segway YET
Leinus, how much dedicated wam do i need foar my server?
Beautiful example images :D
Linus, what kind of lens would you suggest for capturing images of naked bananas holding their peels in a guilty fashion?
400-800mm, possibly with an extender. Make sure you're far enough that they don't notice you taking pictures of them naked! Could be trouble...
Well, I'd doubt if DSC were be here on Mexico at some point, but the other day I buyed a Cooler Master thermal compound, and they are sponsoring you so, that counts?

Btw, Nikon once actually make a lens that could see 220 degrees. Pretty rad, and it was also f/ 2.8
Best sponsor Segway ever xD
hey linus! can you explain about Direct X and Open GL? thanks :)
awesome video. Keep up the good work!!...
What about a FAP on Cpu instruction sets?
An explanation of the "tilt shift" effect would be cool!
Imagine looking at a city from afar. The entire city will be in focus because it's all on the same "plane", according to the point of view. Notice how lenses have an "infinity" option at the end of their focal range?

Basically, wide angle lenses allow you to see more in the shot. It's the opposite of zooming in
