Rainbow was formed by Ritchie Blackmore in 1975 after he left Deep Purple at the height of their fame. They were instantly successful and released a string of hit albums, with an ever changing line-up, between 1975 and 1983 when Blackmore broke up the group to join the reformed Deep Purple.
This concert from their European tour in 1977 features the line-up responsible for the "Long Live Rock'n'Roll" album released later that year, including vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Cozy Powell.
Blackmore had to be smuggled out of Austria after a trouble with the police at a gig two nights earlier and was very late arriving in Munich, all of which seemed to inspire both the band and the audience to create a truly remarkable gig.

The bandmachine at Blackmore's side was his echo/reverb... that's how it was done in the early days. :)

Ohhhhh, I so love Ronnie James Dio. I have spoken with him after 2 concerts in the Netherlands as he recognized me during the second concert (2-3 years apart) and invited me backstage for about 30 minutes. Such a small guy, but the biggest heart I have ever meet. May our metal god rest in peace.

The Revox tape (reel to reel) is used to overdrive Ritchie's amps. It does not record.

Kill the king kappale kertoo shakki pelistä. Tämän kyseisen konsertin kaikki kappaleet on huikeita. Parhaita on Mistreated ,ja Catch the Rainbow jossa Dio vetää parhaimmat lauluesityksensä ikinä.

@@petrikuikka Man of the silver mountain on myös hyvä. Harmi sinänsä ettei Rainbow:n ehkä paras kappale ei ollut tuossa konsertissa eli Stargazer ja sen tarinan jatko Light in the black . Rainbow on muuten ensimmäisä metalli musiikin luojia kuten tämä Kill te king osoitti.

Hi Petri, I just saw you at the EPICA release of Beyond the Matrix, I said hello but I guess you didn’t see it.
Rainbow is still one of my favorite bands, I bought my first Deep Purple record when I was 9, then when Ritchie Blackmore left and started Rainbow, I became a fan right away.
    Try “ Mistreated “ next.
    And enjoy your holiday. 🤘

Epic opening song - made even more epic and "cooler" by events leading up to the track!

Ritchie being acknowledged in the track by Bob Daisley on Bass @ 5:58 - and the crowd being thanked at the end of the track by Ronnie!
