Toyota and Tesla worked together on a hybrid Rav4 back in the day. Seems like they learned enough and split. Then the Prius was made. Copy Kat is accurate in my opinion. They are a pretty great company with the products they do release but most of their tech is outdated on day 1 or behind other manufacturers that released the new tech prior.
Backdoor journalism like you mentioned has been happening for decades. Its just way more blatant these days I feel.
