Crow choosing to spend his final moments by seeing off his bro's final sacrifice to the end was what really got me here.
That, and hearing Ash, Elliot, and Jusis sound so genuinely heartbroken over Rean's choice.
Falling for Laura and hearing her scream in anguish hurt so much.
Especially Ash. His development throughout the 2 games made this hurt.
Two things Falcom does great. 1. World building. 2. Stabbing us right in the feels and making us cry till we can't cry anymore.
3. Creating twists so uunfathomable yet somehow is plausible....

I started crying the moment Elise fell to here knees and sobbing the moment Towa screamed.
The music really doesn't help
This ending was sad, but reverie made it even sadder. Poor Rean
Both endings are so good. This ending feels like such a bittersweet victory, but it feels poetic. The happy ending manages to be happy without feeling cheep. It feels deserved: hard fought and hard won. As a writer, I can really appreciate just how hard that is to pull off. So, hats off to you Falcom. This is an incredible story.
Bad ending suits the whole serie much better imo and I rly like that
Good ending made a "mistake" letting Crow alive. I really like him, but his death had a lot of sense.
But in the end, they are both canon. Both end are important for the next one.
@@Masmix77 I disagree. Trails in the sky and zero/ Azure had happy ends. And it isn't becaude cold steel ending were bad ending that the last one must be a bad end. Cold Steel 4 was the real counter attack. You know all your ennemy, what they are aiming for... You can't be take by surprise anymore and you have the power to fight them. Happy end felt really good and deserving.
@@Masmix77 and rean is the most tragic mc of all that series, so he deserved a better end, at least in the cold steel series.
Cs 1 and 3 ends were bad and cs2 was neutral or bittersweet so cs4 definitely deserved a good ending after all that build up.
I love this ending but I wish there was an aftermath for everyone like in the other ending. Like an honoring of Rean, Millium, and Crow with everyone emotional.
I think with this ending most of class VII and Elise are going to be broken for good, so you will probably see a whole bunch of characters being depress, which is, well, very depressing.

Elliot scream got me. This ending is good in the fact that there was consequences for the war. I guess they saw how beloved Loewe was and didn’t want to risk it. But to me this adds to Rean legend even more, isn’t that what it’s supposed to be about, Legend of Heroes.
Well the issue with this ending is that it doesn't really solve the major problem that we've been fighting against all this time, which is why it's not the true ending. We essentially fail to do what we set out to do and have to settle for a compromise where we stop things from getting any worse, but they also don't get better and will inevitably cause problems later down the line.
Rean fanboys are pathetic.

He died exploding out of the atmosphere, and... since that timeline was erased by the Grandmaster herself, as the end of the World is not now as they said.
The other side was just a super computer bugging the hell out of it...

Honestly, I thought that Class VII would have to kill Rean themselves playing through this game. I was so relieved to find out that I was wrong.
I LITERALLY cried throughout the normal ending, then cry again when he talks with Osborne in the true ending.
And I'm 27. 😂
I weeped through it, not just cried, no other moment in Trails has gotten me this badly

@@usamahsattar12 I had to play the true ending immediately after this one for that very reason, i was so mad and sad I couldn't even consider heading to bed before seeing it (it was late already and I had work the day after but sooooo worth it just to get some relief for the emotional pain this ending inflicted on me)

And to think there was a possible future where Rean's suicide attempt ended in failure and instead locked him and Ishmelga in a never-ending rivalry over control of his body over the course of 3 years, eating away at his sanity and erasing his (and Ishmelga's) very identity.
Well there's nothing saying it still can't be that that possibility is how this attempt went. In fact, I straight up think it is.

Godess this ending still hits me just as hard as the first time I saw it. Hearing Elliots scream and seeing Elise's devastation... And when you know what happens in Hajimari it just makes it even worse. Yet that also makes the "true" ending hit harder in its own way as well, I was crying in relief after that.
Many thanks to Falcom for giving us these games and taking us on an amazing journey! Can't wait for Hajimari and Kuro to get an english release!

Everyone gets this ending the first time. If you did the required side quests for the true ending you can just reload the clear save to get the true ending. I'm sure most people knows this by now but just leaving it here in case someone finds this

If not for the true ending I would have broken down into full blown weeping... lucky I was regular weeping 😭😭😭😭
For me, I like this ending more than the true ending. It felt more realistic somehow... and the soundtrack really fit it. But this ending is kinda rush thou, not really kiseki's style (with farewell speech for every characters). And another tear jerker after i'll remember you :(
Rean Schwarzer and Niko Bellic for so this, is what the dream feels like, this is the victory we longed for.
GTAIV is probably my favorite Grand Theft Auto for that reason.

When you goes see Beryl withbyour friends in the interlude, you know that ending mean that your friends won't end well too. Elliot, for example. Or Alisa. Wouldn't be surprised to learned that some of Rean's friend choose to die in the end.
Elliot and Alisa, would probably try commit suicide or have a huge mind breakdown/depression, unable to move on, from all the guilty and powerless (in Alisa's case). The same goes to Elise and Towa I guess. This normal ending would probably lead things, going to downhill from there, since there was still a war going on.
@@puczoas Well, you save the world, but class 7 is broken. It's obvious when you go see Beryl with the different characters.
I agree about Alisa, especially if she was romanced. I think elliot would do the same. Jusis probably become a shut-in, same with Altina.
Juna probably goes back to Crossbell but refuse to be part with the SSS. Laura would probably drop her sword, Kurt would probably re-doubting himself...
I think Macchias would probably drown himself in work. Fie and Sara would probably remain with the Bracers, but leave the empire forever. Emma would probably just return to her village and stop being a wandering witch...
@@sterenn726 Agreed. Like it's said plenty of times in Cold Steel games, Rean was the pillar of strength for each of them. What made them to move on. If he dies, Class VII would pretty much go stray and give up from their goals or anything that'll lead them to their future.
The bad ending in a way would apply to all of Class VII. It's just too bad we never get to see the afterwards, like they show us in the True Ending. Though I can imagine that would be too heartbreaking to see in detail, the characters all depressing and falling apart.
@@sterenn726 Jusis wouldn't become a shut-in, because he's still the acting Duke Albarea, but the sadness will definitely impact his leadership skills, since he lost three people who he could call friends
@@fierytigergaming8112 It wouldn't be the first time in a fiction (probably happened once or twice in reality) that a person lead his city through in room/throne chamber/desk and nothing else. It's mostly paperwork after all, and he can hired people to make meeting in his place.
Rean shouldve said "Suuperman" as he flew and blew up
This ending feels a bit more what it should be so I like it
he kills off Ishmelga since he's taken on a physical form
and he gets to depart with crow and millium
I will never forget "hearing" Towa's silent scream at the end of the Normal Ending. :(

I know I'm late, but I think she's like McBurn, in that she's has a being from the beyond in her/mixed in her.
I dont have any problems about the normal ending for some reason... Finally Rean got a break from all the bullshit that he went through even though its not canon 'which is a good thing to fans'... I freaking teared up man, but also felt lightness

Both endings are canon. If you want details you're spoiling the next game.
You can treat this as branch of timeline, well timeline always branch.
From a writing and a thematic standpoint this ending is way better.
This hurts much more after Hajimari

I was so irritated when i got this ending instead of the true/good ending because i met the conditions but...
Hajimari no Kiseki Spoiler:
They are both canon in some way for the later story because of that it makes sense that you can not skip the normal ending.
I think because you watch this ending that the other ending look more meaningful.
I already knew I had to get the "bad" ending first, didn't really make me feel any better actually having to watch some of the characters I'd come to love leave for fates unknown and the rest be completely devastated watching it happen and having no way to stop it.
Imagine if they went the way of final fantasy type 0 ending....

I had to come here to see the ending before playing reverie. I got stuck on the 6 different teams part and haven’t played for a year or so now. When I went back I had no idea how to play lol
Is nobody going to comment how the normal ending doesn't feel like an ending at all? Rean exploding Ishmelga in the stratosphere is one thing, but not having an epilogue/ glimpse of hoe his death affected the war/his companions feels rushed. almost as if getting the "true" ending was meant to be all along, yet they "hide" the requirements for this behind an optional quest.
I know how syndical this might sound. But I love this ending. It isn't a good ending to 4 series of games ,and that's okay! I love sad endings like this. It really tugs at my heart strings to see everything Rean has gone through and this be his ending. In a sense it's almost what you'd expect really. I wish more games would have the gusto to make real endings like this. (would also make sequels easier in a sense)

There is actually 3 endings. To get the true ending. Save then to get the secret ending after beating the secret boss Toval will contact you meet him at the entrance he's not there he is inside the red spiral. Don't use the item mcburn gives you it'll only enhance rean's Ogre power once you get the true ending. Load an you'll see a secret ending which is a plot to the next game
This isn't true. You just have to replay the True Ending once more.

love both endings but this probably my choice as favorite of the two.
Also, if you notice that if this ending was the true ending, that would mean the whole Osbourne family died! Rean would be the last to sacrifice his life since he beat his father. Man feels like a One Piece segment how Gold D Roger family all died off.

Gotta be honest, I love a good bittersweet ending
I still prefer the True Ending, but this one is a great bittersweet ending.
I never pick this ending as I am a seasoned pro with JRPG's so I knew it would be a bittersweet ending (and I would be in tears which I was) and that they would die, only outcome for two on borrowed time and the sacrifice.
This is why I pick the other all the time, the one where they all survive, it may not be as poetic but it is nicer.
Ishmelga/Rean: "Don't worry. I promise we'll see each other again"..... I never realized how ominous this phrase was till I played Hajimari

You know, because Elysium recreated a Rean-Ishmelga who survived the explosion from a possible timeline and who later became the main villain/final boss of Hajimari's main story.
So tecnically 2 alternate timelines so which one is canon leading to hajimari?
The true ending (so not this one) however this ending has some meaning for Hajimari

for some reason even after doing everything i had to go through this ending first... then i just loaded up the save after the last battle and continued on to get the true ending. maybe it's a pc thing?
It's been like that since the Japanese PS4 version. Same goes for the secret ending scene.
It's because both endings are relevant for the next game in the series, you HAVE to get normal before true. Besides you've got to admit, it feels even better getting the true ending after this.
I wonder what the purpose is to have a "normal" ending and "true" ending. Did Falcom, like, initially meant to kill Rean but then also wanted to have a happy ending? I mean I honestly loved both but it's kinda putting me off they did that. Idk why.

@@jonathanwashington6083 Yes one is marked true but as I said the Multiverse, where we have the true end where Rean is free but the multiverse is that this world where Rean did this sacrifice, there's 2 npc that gave hints on the multiverse theory when they both mentioned this world as in there is another world.

Like for a moment we deluded ourself's that this ending didn't matter cause it wasn't the true ending anyway and then IshmelgaRean appears in Hajimari like "yeah no that happened, maybe not in this timeline but it did happen" and all I could think about was this universe that had to go on without Rean, Crow and Millium...

Hajimari assumes you've seen the true ending, so it's canon. You can't see the true ending without seeing the normal ending first.
I mean rean and crow are fully active in the next game so this ending can’t be spun anyway to be canon

I really loved the new class 7 cast (well Altina isn't really new but ... well shebis my fav' with Laura, Lloyd and Estelle, with Juna, Elliot and Olivier not far behind, I love all of the other too but I have my preference).

Both ending are (good in a sense) but this is not the true ending. Meaning if there is another heroes game that takes place in the future rean will be alive.
Hajimari no Kiseki came out last year and Rean is one of the three main protagonists.
Personally I prefer the normal ending over the true ending.

NE Rean does appear in Hajimari, but only as a result of Elysium simulation, creating a what-if scenario.
It's different from Zero/Ao no Kiseki where KeA rewrote an actual reality where Lloyd and the others perished.

Some characters are noticeably bad while others are fine. Idk why Ann in Persona 5 sounds fine but Juna sometimes sounds screeching, and both are from the same VA. Meanwhile Elliot's "Nooo!!!!!" At 9:59 killed me 😂
