    Raging Moderates is at the top of my list. BUT Hegseth’s bad behavior far outweighs his service. Big difference being a soldier and leading 3M+ personnel. He is spectacularly unqualified. His on-camera interviews are damning.

      I love Jess and understand her loyalty but Pete Hegseth has openly advocated bombing North Korea and Iran, has never managed a team of more than 15 people and has openly renounced his Harvard degree on-air. There are hundreds of WAY WAY more qualified people for this role.

    The larger risk is not the individuals chosen and their qualifications but putting all of them in place in a mass recess appointment. If these individuals are required to go through the normal confirmation process then they would actually be required to spend some time at the department they seek to run and be required to read a briefing package about the current state of the department and then appear before congress and demonstrate a basic understanding of the mission of the department and its relationship with congress. For Hegseth, Gabbard, and RFK Jr they would actually learn the reality and complexity of DNI, HHS, and DOD mission. Right now all three are operating from ignorance, innuendo, and bias

    Bronze Star is the officer equivalent of an enlisted person receiving a Navy Achievement Medal--I once saw slacker receive a NAM for painting...while we were in the shipyard. Receiving the BS is barely noteworthy; definitely not a big deal.

    • @nathanielfinley5826
      @nathanielfinley5826 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bullshit. A Bronze Star is the 10th highest award in the US Navy, ranking immediately higher in precedence than a Purple Heart (it literally ranks higher than being injured in combat). A Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal is 18th in precedence. Both the NAM and Bronze Star are awarded to officers and enlisted. Just do a little research for Christ's sake.

      Some of these picks (Gabbard, Hegseth) also seem to be open to possible blackmail or extortion with so many skeletons in their closets that we know something about. I shudder to think what else might be there. In addition, Gabbard has too many instances of her praising and/or using the talking points of bad actors like Putin. The real question about Hegseth: Will he do the work of replacing the military command structure with loyalists to the president? Will he say yes to orders of using the military domestically to round up and detain millions of people? Will he facilitate the use of active duty troops to fire on American civilians?

  • @christophergoolsbee

    I was a federal government employee for 4 years and I served in the military for 6 years. Yeah. As a vet who also began his service in 2003, I get frustrated when people who have never served say things about military service in a glowing respect when they don’t seem to have the necessary context.
      For example, at the end of my tour in Iraq in ‘05, literally every senior NCO and officer received - at minimum - a bronze star. And junior NCOs and enlisted received blanket Army Commendation Medals. It’s just what it was.
      I’m not saying that he didn’t serve honorably or anything, but calling out that he received two bronze stars… that’s not indicative of individual valor or merit; it was the blanket award given for people who held his rank given to tens of thousands of officers. It sounds like he deployed twice… received two bronze stars… yeah, that checks out.

    So because Hegseth had an exemplary service career that means he's infallible like the messiah? Aside from all of his other issues, and they're substantial, I have a major problem with his repeated comments that active duty service people and veterans shouldn't use many of their benefits and that it's wrong for them to do so. My grandfather was a bronze star winner, a D-Day veteran who landed at Omaha beach and later served in combat in Korea. My Dad and Son are Army veterans. So according to him they're basically deadbeats taking handouts because they use the benefits they earned? This is the parasite we want running our military? And she thinks he's got the qualifications for the job?

      0-4 is not a junior officer - rather, a major is the most junior of the senior officer ranks. It takes something like 15-17 years of duty to move up from 0-4 to 0-5, and Hegseth only had 12 or 13 years. So I don't know what points you're trying to make about his service, but you're not making them very well.

      @@nathanielfinley5826 You made several errors in your comment. I served as an O4. Senior officer starts at O5/Commander/Lieutenant Colonel. 21:15 Sorry Jessica, you again do not know what you are talking about. I support woman having the option to be in combat, I have no opposition at all to that, but they have different standards, which some people could argue (right or wrong) that lower standards could let in less qualified people (and I am not even arguing for gender-neutral stands, just that one needs to be accurate when speaking about this topic). here is some info from the Net, various sites have similar information which leads me to suspect that it is accurate: Due to persistently high failure rates, primarily among female trainees, the Army has decided to scrap the concept of gender-neutrality in the ACFT. Instead, exercise requirements and test scores will be gender-normed and different for men and women, with some standards lower than before. (Apr 19, 2022)

    • @KK-pm7ud
      @KK-pm7ud หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lowering standards for women vs men is just more sexism. If the most qualified woman cannot compete at a high enough level to make the cutoff, then that's the way the cookie crumbles. Shoehorning people in to meet quotas and have nice stories is dangerous at best and destructive at worst. It gets worse when they try to add additional criteria that are irrelevant to give others a higher chance of making the cutoff just for optics.

    Most of the analysis I have seen really missed why Kamala lost the election. I believe it is primarily the information bubbles we live in. Kamala had a lot of good policies, appealed to unity, a better future, expanding financial opportunities and stayed away from identity politics. Most people that votes for Trump never heard any of her ideas or proposals. None. After the election, they ran focus groups and her policies and approach was much more popular than his and people wished they had known about them. The algorithms favored rage and fear over joy and unity. Until the Dems can figure out yo penetrate that information bubble they will really struggle.

      You're making assumptions about people who supported Trump that are absolutely ignorant. Many people understand what policies Kamala claimed to support. Mind you that she supported different policies at different times and adjusted them to whatever group she wanted to have vote for her. She lost because she's incompetent and the more people saw her the more they realized that she was as terrible of a candidate as initially thought in 2020. The team around her was just as bad. There will be a lot of change over the next four years and if Gavin Newsom runs against JD Vance in 2028, he would lose in an embarrassing election. The Democrats have lost their way and I fear they'll need to lose several elections before they realize it.

    DOGE has two unpaid co-heads- pretty fiscally efficient. Let's see how and what they cut. The gov't needs an efficiency overhaul and this is the first real effort proposed by any president in the last 50 years. Vivek proposed cutting based on ss number as a thought experiment not an actual policy. Be Better!

      Not true. In 2010 Obama formed the Simpson-Bowles bi-partisan commission, which included civilians. The final votes on the panel failed to reach the threshold required by the commission, but a Democrat and Republican together put a plan based on it on the House floor and it was rejected 382 to 38. 22 Democrats and 16 Republicans supported the bill. Obama also tried to get buy-in to merge departments together to reduce head-count and improve efficiency but the blow-back was fierce.
