Tascam DM4800 2022 setup for Mac OS 10.15

- Some have said it can’t be done but it can! Here is how my got my 2018 MacBook Pro running so Catalina (10.15) to run my DM4800. With FireWire card. This is the grand daddy of the modern digital mixers and allows for a lot of flexibility!!

Thanks for sharing. I have the DM-4800 as well that sits in an Argosy Series 70. Great combination.
This was great. I just realized from your video I could hook up the DM as a Interface with the firewire. Thank you! I just purchased a Tascam TSR-8. Now I can hook it right to my DM -3200.

Great to find your channel Brain. I'm using a DM3200. Love the console. Used to use it with a MacBook pro just the way you have connected it. Recently I've transferred over to PC. Its good to know that it can run on OS 10.15 though. Stay in touch man. Or ill see you over at Tascam forums sometime soon. ;)

I have tried to install the drivers but it won't let it says it needs to be updated how did you get it to work
Did you use the link I had in the description? Also if you previously downloaded the drivers you need to delete those completely.

Im trying to get my FW card to work, but my Tascam says version 1.02. I’m trying to update my Tascam 4800 firmware to 1.10 and having no luck. Once downloaded to my MacBook, the FW card icon shows up. Once I click the icon and hit next, it’s says No Device. Wondering if you can help with this. Thanks
Can anybody here help me? I just got my hands on one of these desks but it didn't come with any software to install on my computer.

Hi thanks so much for this video! It's super helpful. However, I am still having an issue, so the DM4800 is all setup the same as you have done in this video and it seems to working all fine (the desk is controlling logic as it should do) however the problem i am having is although there is audio coming out of logic, the audio does not seem to come through the desk. The onboard meter LEDS do not light up and I can't figure out how to fix this. I'm sure it's something simple but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!!

@@VelocityRecordingStudio thanks for your reply! Yes I have set it up exactly as you have in the video. I think the problem is with my output assign section. For some reason when I select channels on the desk, I am unable to assign them to the corresponding buttons on 'output assign' section. Any ideas?
Glad I found this! I use an Apollo Twin X and UAD plugins for recording vocals and acoustic sources, because of the Unison preamps. I was mainly looking at the DM4800 & DM3200 as a control surface for Logic, but I still have an OWC Thunderbolt hub connected that supports firewire - so I could use it for audio. Any comment on the quality on the Tascam pre-amps in the console versus a dedicated audio interface?
You can dig around on the forums for more info in my opinion they are clean. Which I like, meaning I can add the character in with outboard gear.
I have a mint one w/FW card, and I've yet to hook that bad boy up. It's over my head, I definitely need all the vids I can find.

@@JeffyG My image of a studio, involves a mixer console. Is it truly necessary? No, but I really like having absolute control over my levels, and I love the way it looks. That being said, I,'m finally going all in. Going to learn producing, mixing, mastering, and writing. I love it all.

I currently have an SSL 2 which connects to my iMac via USB-C. I've found a steal of a deal on a Tascam DM4800, which I'd love to incorporate to my studio. I run Logic Pro, Monterey v 12.0.1. Is it possible to connect this and use this as an audio interface/tactile mixer, thus eliminating the need for the SSL?
I don’t use logic and I’ve not experimented on it. I would dig into Tascam forums to find out
I just got the 4800 but unfortunately having a hard time finding that firewire card. Trying to figure out how to run it using adat focusrite 56 liquid pre out to a PC..

I can only get the HUI to work. When I tried updating the firmware it says device not found. When I go into system preferences , it shows up under firewire . On the board I get Driver offline next to 1394 under the status window. I've got it connected to a hub. I ordered an adaptor to see if connecting it direct will help. But thank you for your video at least now I know it will work as an interface. Btw way the current firmware in the board is ver 1.10 Build#88685.

Usb is only for midi control

Yupp there is a bank button. That will move your daw selection up and down by 24 tracks when you are in the remote bank.

I've been using the Tascam DM 3200 with Pro Tools Studio 2022..3 plus usb & firewire card/ Macbook Pro O.S. Sierra. 10.12. I tried updating my O.S. to Catalina 10.15 but it wouldn't see the firewire card. My console has the latest firmware installed and latest. software driver for firewie card 1.10 Can you please let me know if there's something I'm using that's incompatible? I can't figure it out. It works perfectly on the Mac O.S. Sierra O.S. please help. I'd like to run it on my iMac which is a 2020 model if possiblre. Thanks in advance.
I know this sounds silly but unplug all devices from your computer including power, plug in just the DM. Turn the DM on and check for connection. also try reinstalling the driver

Unuseable with Apple Silicon processors. That’s the reason I never buy Tascam products since I had one soundcard that stopped working because Tascam won’t update drivers.
I have yet to try any Apple silicon
