Cue the local Cajun musicians. Serve up Creole foods.

I hope people have/had a good time but I'd personally feel a lot better about celebrating cultural traditions if they didn't involve casual animal abuse. I know a lot of hard work goes into making sure these animals are well taken care of and that these days the abuse is kept to a minimum but make no mistake about it, we're distressing these creatures and introducing them to an unnecessary potential for accidents and injury just so we can have fun at their expense.

Nice to see you're keeping racism alive! No matter how benign, when you categorize people by race it is racist! When you single out a group by race, it's racist! If you were to replace 'black' with 'white' in this story, everyone would be in an uproar!

It might sound a little awkward I think because "white cowboy traditions" are basically just understood to be the default when you say "cowboy traditions". I don't know how many people would be in a terrible uproar over it - unless you're using white in an exclusionary sense like we won't allow you to celebrate any non-white cowboy heritage here. That would be a little racist - though I think historical power dynamics complicate things a little bit I still generally believe that "two wrongs don't make a right".
Getting back on on subject: That's the problem with the idea that you can just flat out ignore racial distinctions and the history of institutional power and *poof* no racism. There are racially sensitive components baked into the very foundations of our day to day lives - to pretend that they do not exist benefits those who gained from that racist history, not those seeking to eliminate racism.

      AMEN!
Slavery was America's biggest mistake, not because of slavery itself, but because we got stuck with all the obsolete equipment to maintain.

It IS NOT RACIST to simply categorize people by their race/nationality you technically are what you are.......IT IS RACIST to attempt to mistreat disenfranchise dehumanize someone based of race/nationality
