I enjoyed this presentation; it was very informative. I'm interested in the early Christian church, especially before the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. There were a lot of moving pieces.
I had done my own research of the popes a number of years ago and one thing that I found very interesting was that there were four patriarchs spread out in the Roman empire to oversee each region. Patriarchs of Jerusalem, Antioch, Constantinople and Rome. All things being political the importance of the patriarchs of Jerusalem and Antioch went by the wayside and it was sometimes a competition between the two remaining patriarchs of Constantinople and Rome. Also after Constantine legalized Christianity all popes needed to be approved by the emperor. Eventually the popes themselves became more powerful than any emperor or King especially after gaining the papal States. It wasn't until the unification of Italy in the 1870s that the land the pope over saw was reduced to what it is today Vatican City and popes became more pastoral rather than a monarch. It took another hundred years before the papal tiara was done away with.
The term pope was originally applied to all the bishops in the West and also used to describe the patriarch of Alexandria, who still retains the title. In 1073, however, Pope Gregory VII restricted its use to the bishop of Rome, confirming a practice that had existed since the 9th century. Therefore it is disingenuous to lead people to believe that Peter was the first and only Pope. But when the RCC owns you, you have to play the part well
Peter ordained MANY bishops, including Linus the bishop of Rome, the question which this video fails to answer is when and how the bishop of Rome came to be regarded as the head of the church, i.e. the Pope.
The main problem with this video is that most of these early leaders were not Popes. They were Bishops of the early Christian church which was not the actual Catholic church yet. The Catholic church did not exist in history until Constantine created it in the 300's by combining the pagans and the early Christians. Sylvester 1 was most likely the first pope although it could be argued that Vilgilis was the first Pope in 538 when the authority of the Papacy was officially recognized by Italy.

Pretty sure the term "pope" came after the reign of Constantine I, and since all the popes were the Bishops of Rome, the Bishops of Rome before them were also called popes.

The term pope is tricky because it comes from an official title of the Roman state. That title is the pontifex maximus (or the pope) which was Rome's high priest going back to the 700s bc. ,Julius Caesar for example was the pope (or the pontiff , or pontifex maximus) of Rome in his lifetime. Since it was an official title the church did not 'obtain" it until after the edict of toleration. I don't remember which pope first took this title but it was in the 300s in pretty certain.

Wow these men went through a. Lot for their faith. Meanwhile, the American hierarchy is worried about left wing social issues. Makes me wonder if they'd stick with their faith if under persecution.
Quite a Catholic fable of the papacy being 2000 year old, by confusing the bishop of Rome with the Pontifex Maximus in Constantiople--starting with Constatine himself. Only about 1000 years ago did the bishop of Rome broke off his relationship to the mother church in Constantinople and become the independent church, naming themselves Catholic=universal, and declaring the bishop of Rome to be the "father=pope" of their Church. All that comes before that, is the history of Christianity NOT Catholicism.
There is always that one person who tries to twist information making it heretical due to the fact they are pissed and angry of a simple truth about the Church of Christ, which is the Catholic and apostolic church founded with St Peter. Please just try eating and swallowing up this truth, it wont kill. All the early popes which you have stated are not Catholic but mere Christians left a history and tradition for us to keep. But it seems only the present day Catholics have been the ones who actually kept the faith. If you are not Catholic, have a rethink, you are missing a whole lot. Lol.
And btw, the word Catholic comes from St Ignace of Antioch who lived in the 2nd century (he was the pupil of St John the Apostle). He is the one who applied this word for the first time which means that even in the earliest times of the Church, the Church was Catholic
