The reason for the paint thing has to do with a multitude of factors. Mainly, it has to do with the heat. As the area warms up, the metal of the cars warps and expands and, since the vehicles are not properly covered with paint primer, the spray paint doesn't bond properly to the metal, which causes it to slide off as it also warms up as well. Science is cool.
Very cool, thank you! Would you say the cars themselves are now pretty toxic due to the amount of paint? (Whilst still looking iconic and impressive, no doubt :)
@@bostiebean Honestly, I think they're fairly safe so long as you don't go licking them or sticking your fingers in your mouth after touching a portion that isn't totally dried yet. You have no idea how much it saddens me that I even have to say that... xD
truth be told, I'd be more worried about the people painting the plants. That paint gets absorbed by the leaves and down into the roots, then into the soil around it, rendering it completely infertile...
@@Legoless1979 Very true, such a shame.. And right - it's crazy that people aren't aware of things they touch; although I'm hyper aware, the opposite end still amazes me. Thanks for your knowledge!! :)
I have lived in Amarillo my entire life, born and raised (29 years), I have literally never been to the cadillac ranch and have only been to the big texan once. Those are both for tourists not locals haha
I miss the Big Texan! Been there 3 times or so. I don't remember the Texan doorknob, for some reason. I always have to have a photo with Big Moo. And get pressed pennies. Mmmm steak... 🤤 🥩

6:00 the actual geological classification for this type of "stone" is Fordite. Though that is more specific to automotive paints, it was on a car at some point so I think it counts. 😅
Oklahoma state fair is my fair ! Can't wait to see your video from it. You do a fantastic job at capturing these state fair's without missing much. I know you only try one thing, but maybe you can make an exception for the Oklahoma State Fair because we have so many super weird, unique amazing foods ! Can't wait to see what you find.
I like that the paint from Cadillac Ranch was being turned into little art pieces. Also, that steak dinner had me drooling on my screen even thought I literally had just stuffed my face with my own dinner.
I dont comment, but im always here watching every day! i love watching everything neat and living vicariously through you!! Thanks Jacob! we all appreciate what you do!
You do the traveling that I can't. I watch every day for my daily dose of escape. You got a magnet this time, magnets are what I collect for travel souvenirs. If you put one in your shop I'd be the 1st customer
I think that silo with the pit at the new Big Texan's Bug Ranch is the old snake pit that used to be at the old Bug Ranch. When we went through in 2005, there was a rattlesnake pit behind the liquor convenient store at the original Bug Ranch across from an old motel we stayed at. It was cool. Hope Jenn hooked up with you to see Paul's place and she got to check out Kevin's Toy Museum..
We parked our semi out back and enjoyed a break there once. The steak was so good! We sat up top and got to watch a man trying to eat the 72 oz steak. Always wanted to see the quarter horse museum there but never made it. Retired now. Thanks for bringing back some great memories of Amarillo and life on the road.
Love your vlog. I’ve never been to Cadillac Ranch. I enjoy seeing all the places you’ve been in the last few months and Meow Wolf was new to me. Also the love the Flatwoods monster pin on your hat, one of my favorites.
I’ve lived in this area my whole life and I’ve never wanted to visit Cadillac ranch, but now that Jacob has been there I may need to go now! 😂 My hubs and I love watching and would totally “fan girl” if we ran into the carpetbagger on one of his trips down Route 66 ❤
Hey Jacob, you need to go to the brand new US marshals museum in Fort Smith Arkansas. It’s really cool. Also, you can see in Fort Smith, where Elvis Presley got his famous military haircut!
I'm kind of a new fan here and I've been watching daily especially recently starting this season. I've especially been enjoying your videos highlighting my region of the USA which is the Southwest Region like your three or so most recent videos especially Meow Wolf since I'm from Santa Fe. I'm especially into theming, art and museums but unfortunately haven't been able to get out very much lately and I've been sort of living vicariously through your videos and enjoying them a lot!
I have photos of Stanley Marsh III. I knew him and costed his ranch many times. His water tower was a tomato soup can, he painted a ridge the same colors as the painted desert and he had a field that looked like a pool table from the air wit stick and pool balls. He also had a 9 hole miniature golf in his office waiting room on the 9th floor
That's already happened. Don't remember which video. I think he was at a convention. Maybe someone else can remember. I know Jacob freaked a little. Was cool to watch.
Passing through there next week! I’m gathering my stash of spray paint for the new slug bug ranch and I’m gonna hold out to have lunch at Big Texan. Love your vids! -Suanne Nutter Birmingham to New Mexico
Well hello carbagger it's always amazing to see you have amazing safe travels I live about 1 hundred miles where you are going Oklahoma City I live in wilburton Oklahoma my husband Danny would really enjoy meeting you so do I but he had to go to the doctor anyway be. safe
Heading towards the Oklahoma state fair maybe ? It has the largest AG horticultrial, farm to table expo section of any state fair by a lot ! as well as a real monorail riding high above the trees going around the entire fair ! really the Oklahoma state fair is a pretty good one. Used to even have extreme helecoptor ride tours for like 75-100$ per ride. a real helecoptor would fly you around all fast and aggressive. it was insane. they might not do the helecoptor rides anymore.
we were there several years ago, could not get close was on a charter bus and to many school kids were there. have you seen the Legs of Amarillo? i will gladly welcome you to Oklahoma when you make it here, safe travels.
Morning Jacob 🤓📸 ur in Texas now, you really move fast, you were in New Mexico now Amarillo Texas, I'm guessing u travel during the night time lol. Anyway thank you for sharing this. Stay safe.
the carpetbagger subscribers have never been more well fed.
Never tire of your vlogs, Jabob. They do not follow a set pattern and they are always entertaing. Thank you.

Good Morning " YA AL " Jacob the Carpetbagger ..!!
Finally a place I've been to before lol.
Good morning Jacob
Hi Jacob a true classic roadside Icon.!!! I remember you eating that giant steak...XXX
I like that the paint from Cadillac Ranch was being turned into little art pieces. Also, that steak dinner had me drooling on my screen even thought I literally had just stuffed my face with my own dinner.
You've become an everyday part of my life I always look forward to your videos thank you !
Weird, I would have totally called that "Bug Henge"
Good morning Jacob, nice seeing u. Hope u have a great day ❤
I dont comment, but im always here watching every day! i love watching everything neat and living vicariously through you!! Thanks Jacob! we all appreciate what you do!
No way! Sounds like it’s time for a trip to Hawaii
😎🏝️🌺🐬🌊🏄
Awesome video of you Jacob keep up the amazing work and safe travels
Glad you got your TCB paint on the slug bug.
South Plains Fair in Lubbock starts this weekend, you should back track for it.
Love the Cadillac Ranch. Awesome!!!
Steaks cooked rare. Good man. 👍
Natural and clean is my choice.
You do the traveling that I can't. I watch every day for my daily dose of escape. You got a magnet this time, magnets are what I collect for travel souvenirs. If you put one in your shop I'd be the 1st customer
Man that steak looks good...
We could split one of those 72 oz steaks 😊
The paint jewelry originated as "fordite" from the Ford plant in Detroit.
Hey! You were in my neck of the woods. The Slug Bug Ranch is a pretty new addition.
I enjoyed what you said about Cadillac Ranch being used to provide souvenirs and being replenished by the visitors. Steak looked yummy!
Jacob, your TH-cam Channel is really cool! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 As always, I wish you safe travels and I wish you the best as well.
Make sure to stop by Kayak ranch once you get back home.

Great Cadillac ranches, pieces of art.😊
I think the only thing holding those Cadillac's together is paint and rust. The steak looked incredible. Looking forward to tomorrow.
The heat got the paint off. Lol
Hawaii and Alaska are so awesome. Can’t wait til you make your pilgrimage🎉
yeah i did see that video with Adam the Whoo and that is why i since follow your channel also
The big texan looks so great
Love your vids you truly are the best vlogger
😂 I remember you eating that steak.. hilarious .. and maybe the rusting of the vehicle sloughs off the paint.. fun video..
Those cars have so many coats of paint that they should last forever 😂
Love the Cadillac Ranch! It's always a classic roadside attraction along route 66. Hope you have fun at the Oklahoma State Fair Jacob! 👍🏻👍🏻
nice video thanks for sharing
Always wanted to eat at the Big Texas BBQ.
I love your blogs from the Mother Road. No matter what part of it, you're on!!
I would love to go there, just to see it up close. It's a great video, Jacob. And till the next one, take care, my friend and as always safe travels.
We parked our semi out back and enjoyed a break there once. The steak was so good!

Always wanted to see the quarter horse museum there but never made it.
Retired now. Thanks for bringing back some great memories of Amarillo and life on the road.
Forget Rock Climbing, bring on the Limo Ranch for Jacob's newest created craze....CROC CLIMBIN!! 😮😊
Love your vlog. I’ve never been to Cadillac Ranch. I enjoy seeing all the places you’ve been in the last few months and Meow Wolf was new to me. Also the love the Flatwoods monster pin on your hat, one of my favorites.
Do some really cool art on that car 🚗
Ha ha ha. I can imagine some kids visiting would be going into all-out fist fights yelling "Slug Bug!" over and over!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I love your travels. They mean so much to me. I really appreciate the hard work that goes in the videos. ❤. Say Hi to Jen for me. 😊
I’ve lived in this area my whole life and I’ve never wanted to visit Cadillac ranch, but now that Jacob has been there I may need to go now! 😂
My hubs and I love watching and would totally “fan girl” if we ran into the carpetbagger on one of his trips down Route 66 ❤
Hahaha. I think of Elvis whenever I see TCB. "Taking Care of Business".
When Adam the Woo dressed up as Elvis last year for Halloween, he said his TCB necklace actually stood for The Carpet Bagger. 😃
“It is indeed pointy” ❤😂
Hey there! Big fans! We have some new Route 66 Roadside Attractions in Tulsa if you want to hit them up on your way out of OK!
Hey Jacob, you need to go to the brand new US marshals museum in Fort Smith Arkansas. It’s really cool. Also, you can see in Fort Smith, where Elvis Presley got his famous military haircut!
I love it when you come through my town!!!!! People say we don’t have stuff, we actually do oh and the fair is in town this week too

One day, Pappy or Zoltar are going to say, “Hey, it’s the Carpetbagger!”.
I’m going to freak out 🤩

I wouldn’t be climbing those cars either, I’d be afraid they would fall and crush me!
How are you so good at one handed shooting!?! I never hit anything at these things, and I'm not holding a camera in the other hand.
I think it’s because I play these so often I used to not be able to hit anything
In my best Stitch voice: "BLUE PUNCH BUGGY!"
You missed Art City outside of Tucumcari. Next time!
Are you going to visit Buck Atom's new friends, Stella and Mack?
Went to Oklahoma State Fair on Monday may go back Wednesday. While you are in Oklahoma City check out the FAM museum.
hey Jacob come to Lubbock this weekend for the fair coming to our town! Lubbock is 45 mins away from Amarillo. ❤
I’ve been telling him for days. I hope he sees our suggestions.
I think that the "pristine" ones just look abandoned not intentionally implemented. I also much prefer the cars to the tractors.
Did you triple check to see if the fair is in Oklahoma City. 🤣
I remember that 😂
Looks like that rattlesnake ate the 72 oz steak 😂 I was hoping you would get salad on that meter 😂
$1 for those animatronics is crazy
Jacob out in the land of cacti and tumbleweeds!
Good Video Hiope you start Haunted House Videos Soon Jacob
Biggest rattlesnake I've ever seen 😳
Just wanted to say that “TCB” in my family also means “take care of business” - and we all know The Carpet Bagger does!
That would be a cool parody of the Elvis tattoo for carpetbagger merch
I always knew it as "Punch Buggy".
Tod and Buz say, Get Your Kicks on Route 66.
I remember seeing Rarity on one of those cars in 2014! I wonder if she's buried within all that paint... ;)
That's actually pretty cool to have 12:58
Show me the way to Amarillo...

Go to Tulsa State fair!! The Golden Driller!!
Another great video
we were there several years ago, could not get close was on a charter bus and to many

I thing it's the weight Ober the year and the weather is what is making it like that great video Jacob be safe out there
Wow
Went through there on a cross-country trek from Florida to Northern California. RV Caddies are my favorite
Jmmy you good 😅😅😅😅😅😅

Morning Jacob 🤓📸 ur in Texas now, you really move fast, you were in New Mexico now Amarillo Texas, I'm guessing u travel during the night time lol. Anyway thank you for sharing this. Stay safe.
Those Cadillacs have been buried for so long, the paint is probably the only thing holding them together.
Hi carpetbagger. Are you going to get a croc toy at McDonald's? They r so neat!
Cool places! v
