thanks for recording, listening again the all album down in a train back home, it made me recall how this album is a solid friend during hard times even after 20 years
Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I too shared your curiosity: The opening film is various clips played in reverse from the highly acclaimed, loosely autobiographical, 1975 film 'Mirror' in which the director, Andrei Tarkovsky, portrays a dying poet's experience of a 'last flash of life' glimpse into an emotionally entrancing, yet enigmatic, blend of memories & dreams spanning childhood, wartime, & marriage in a 1930's-1970's soviet setting. The film is narrated thru several poems which reveal an intimate internal-monologue as the dying poet reflects on life's foundational moments - and yet, as an interesting in-real-life twist, those poems were in fact composed & read by Andrei's father, Arseny Tarkovski. Its pioneering structure & hypnotic cinematographic style continues to influence modern film, and in 2021 it was released by the Criterion Collection with an updated English translation & 2K digital restoration.
