I still can't get used to hearing CN going through the Eldson sub
Growing Up near evergreen Park that was always GTW.
But of course the easement that Canadian national allowed for CSX to utilize but it's still strange to hear some 10 plus years

I've never heard such quiet diamonds. I never heard of this place before. I waited for the new CPKS engines. I'm not sure what the letters are. I'm almost 80. Jan. 9, 2024. St.Joseph, MO. I love structures and construction almost as much as the trains. Surprised to see Iowa line with newly painted engines.

Growing up in 70s we lived by a huge rail yard by UofL. Seems like 50 tracks or more. Our house was the 2nd from the road that was next to all the tracks. Probably 200 feet or less. Best sleep you can get is next to the tracks.

Blue Island has a chronic problem that the streets are almost always blocked by a train. It got to the point where the city had to file lawsuits against the railroads.
The Canadian railroads taking over more of the tracks around Chicago and more efficient routing of rail cars has eliminated much of the congestion that used to back up in the switching railyards. One train being unable to get into a full yard would quickly cascade into trains for other railroads 100 miles being stuck with crews running out of time.
The south side of Chicago also had a chronic problem of nearby residents looting the trains. If the train stopped for any reason, the cars would get broken into within minutes. That would require police to show up to investigate, which would further detain the stopped train, creating more chaos.
I'm describing how it was in the early 1990s. The arrival of containerized traffic has probably reduced that quite a lot, since the doors on the lower container can't be opened without lifting the container off of the rail car
