I figure most of what I can think of you already know, but if you look up "The Form: Burp!" on YT, I was chatting with a member of the band online and he turned me on to that enjoyable live set. Their TwinTone 45 of "It Happens That Way"/"All the Young Dudes" didn't do much for me, but you might like it.
I am in fact in the Seattle area. As a vinyl collector, I have the Heats record, but honestly I’m not familiar with the music. I’ll check it out! Thanks for replying!
You got me with The Research Turtles...hadn't heard them but been listening to their s/t album and love it! Thanks for that. Also, if you're a fan of Off Broadway, check out this video: th-cam.com/video/ckclldEq8vY/w-d-xo.html. Thanks for watching!
The Posies from Seattle were amazing! What about Flop, or Harvey danger? And dig deeper into Seattle you’ll come across the Allies. Thanks again for showcasing all these great bands!
You're digging deep! You must be from Seattle, too. 😆. Flop was a great band. I just played "A. Wylie" in an episode of the podcast: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/pop-rocks-radio/id1764989207?i=1000669157925. The Allies - "(I'm In Love With) Emma Peel" is a classic! I liked Harvey Danger, as well (maybe unpopular opinion: think they have so many better songs than the one they're remembered for!). Are you a fan of The Heats? They actually have a new album coming out (first in like 40+ years!). Thanks for watching!
Thanks, Terry! You know, I read about the Sponge Bob thing and it just slipped my mind when it came to putting the video together. My bad…that would have been a great bit! Thanks for that and thanks for watching!
An old girlfriend gave me The Right to Be Italian in 1981. It's still one of my favorites. Rock Against Romance is one of the greatest power pop songs of all time.
For some catchy alt/power pop, I highly recommend the brand new album ‘Avoider’ by Ahem. I’ve been a fan of this MN trio for years and their latest is a gem.
Funny you should mention them! I just heard their song “Sunroof” today by recommendation (if you don’t subscribe to “Remember the Lightning” on Substack, check it out…always great stuff). Loved that song! Have it in the next MixCloud episode, as well. Thanks for the rec and thanks for watching!
Holly was the subject of an ex-boyfriend's song. "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits proves breakups can be hard...and profitable! I can see why Mark was so upset.😊
Another fun showcase of 5 groovy bands! I'd like to recommend Irish Power Pop-Punk-New Wavers, "Boomtown Rats", led by Bob Geldof of "Live Aid For Africa" fame. They were quite versatile, with songs like I Don't Like Mondays, Mary Of The 4th Form, and She's So Modern. th-cam.com/video/MfXc1Iefs8U/w-d-xo.html
Wow, hadn’t listened to “She’s So Modern” for such a long time…just put it on and am blown away at how cool it is. I’ll have to dig into their catalog a bit more. Thanks for putting them back on my radar and thanks for watching!
Oh, man ! Their 2020 "Citizens of Boomtown" was such a grimy, energetic, finger-tapping, toe-snapping return to 4th form after they had left us with those last couple of kinda experimental albums in the '80s. I loved it!
@@KenLieck Great rec! Just listened to the first few tracks so far and love it! "Monster Monkeys" is a pretty cool song. (You always have great recs, sir!). Cheers!
They were not a power pop band, but this is the only way I know how to get this message out! Music fans who like power pop have got to start to realize just how great the first three ''Grin'' albums are. number four was a dud. I mean songs like ''White Lies'' ''Lost Number'' ''Everybody's Missing the sun'' ''We all sung together''Sad Letter'' ''Love or else''Maybe it dos not fit the definition of Power Pop ,but it is close enough.Combine that with their country pop songs and Nil's great acoustic guitar playing and you have a truly great forgotten band! Nil's first solo album is also a great record! If he didn't hook up with Springsteen I can't even begin to guess how few people would even know about them.
Perfect place to talk about Grin! Not really power pop (though the genre is so fuzzy), but it's a great band that gets overlooked. I think "Like Rain" is a great song and "White Lies" like you mention is just awesome. Thanks for mentioning them and thanks for watching!
Fair question! (And my English profs would be cringing, as well). 🤣. For me, those are the actual (ahem) words I kept saying to myself every time I came across a band I hadn’t heard before that was so good I just couldn’t understand why they weren’t huge. Thanks for watching!
@@poprocksradio I just meant that to me it comes across as - This is unbelievable, I found five power pop bands that are good. Rather than, here’s another five great power pop bands. 😀
@@hectorhector3326 Oh man...I hadn't thought about it like that. lol When you say it like that, it does sound like I can't believe there are "actually" 5 power pop bands that are good. Oh boy...I'm gonna have to rethink this. Appreciate the feedback! 😁
Poll: Who are some of your favorite long-lost power pop bands? Let me know and so we can include them in an upcoming video!
New Orleans had some great bands. The Dukes, The Cold, RZA, The Models, The Limit. Check 'em out!

The Dangtrippers. 80's Power Pop from Iowa. Two excellent albums in the late 80's/early 90's, which have been reissued on CD.
Have you covered Phil Seymour? How ‘bout DB Cooper?
Flying Color. Only one album and their song 'Dear Friend' should have been bigger.

Two of my fave but obscure bands:
The Research Turtles
Off Broadway

Andy Paley later co-wrote songs with Brian Wilson and wrote the theme song for "Sponge Bob Square Pants".....Peace and Love, Terry Tutor

Amen to that...great song! Thanks for watching!
So happy to see Bram Tchaikovsky here. The first LP is a killer. Glad to get a little info on his post-power pop life, too.
Thanks! I agree…start to finish, that album is awesome. Would love to chat with him one of these days, too. So underrated! Thanks for watching!
Like Bill did, I just woke up to this notification and got a nice power pop fix for breakfast! Cheers. 🎸
Thanks, Rich! Hope you’re well…great to hear from you…cheers!

Bram Tchaikovsky's "Girl of my Dreams" ❤
'nuff said...great song! Thanks for watching!
