Both 35% and 50% VLT are legally suitable for vehicle windows with no existing tint. Simply roll down your window halfway and then measure the tint with the meter. 2 things ,firstly even though it was a pain in the arse we swop out the windows for non tint ones before the inspection. Not spending time to remove it and then have it refitted. Secondly as we all know the government doesn’t want anything with more than 2 wheels on the road and they particularly hate us truckies on the road. Also bud, good practice when loaded or empty, to back under just before your king pin locks in, wind your legs up, then back under and lock it in fully, helps keep your legs nice and straight 👍 just a friendly tip 😊 Nothing wrong with the tint either I wouldn't think 🤔
Always check the pin mate, Tug test means nothing. Also probably a better procedure to wind the legs up an inch when the table takes the weight, hook up then tug test. This way you'll save landing landing gear/legs and if the pin didn't lock for any reason the trailer won't fall and smash the guards up ect. 👍🏽 Might see ya round somewhere on the m1, call up and say gday. Personal, I don't think it's too dark at all! The tint in my car is a lot darker and it's passed rego for the last 7yrs it's been on. We live in a country with high rates of skin cancer so you could argue it's part of your work PPE! It's more about seeing the driver than the driver seeing out anyway, when you look from the outside in, it looks darker because the light is filtered, when you looking from the inside out, the visibility is much better. BUT, this raises the question of vehicles with the mirror tint, how can they be legal? I think they were just nit picking because they couldn't find anything else to do you for.
i bet you went to the RMS at weatherillpark , theres a bunch of mixed nuts there , with the tint they are most likely being picky but from law says it cant be that dark to see in and be able to identify your face . love ya work buddy.

Mate firstly I want to say I look forward to your posts keep them coming, as far as the window tint goes yep way to dark they are about 15% VLT that's what I have on my 4WD here in the territory been pulled over and the cops they don't really care up this end of the world you just out of luck going over the pits I'm heading south soon and really thinking about changing my tint as don't want a fine for being to dark, and yes mate it really effects driving at night not for cars but for pedestrians and push bikes without lights that why I put the windows down when required.

It was great to see what is involved in hooking up a trailer to the prime mover. I've never seen that before. Regarding tint, personally I think all window tints on vehicles should be banned. I know that they make it more comfortable in the eyes on a bright summer's day. I know the tint makes things a little cooler on a hot summer's day. There are two problems with tint. 1) On a wet dark night it is much harder for the driver to see out of the vehicle. 2) Under many conditions it is impossible to see the face of the driver in a tinted car. You cannot make eye contact. You cannot tell if they are looking at you, or have noticed you. It de-personalises the driving experience. If all drivers can see other humans in other cars, this tends to make them behave more humanely to others.
I agree in part, with your points of why NO Window Tint ?? It does make it that little more difficult to see even from a Drivers point of view, As you mentioned Dark Wet Nights ?? Definitely a Bonus in Summer. But it can be a bit of a Pain when Winter comes around ?? The other point you made about Eye Contact ???? This is a Big one for me when I occasionally ride a Motorcycle. I was in business for thirty one years and got audited once and after 40 man hours of inspection all they could find was I was one month paying one employees super and was fined $95. That employee was ME.
Well that sucks. How picky are they usually when they do the inspection? The reason I ask is that we have a 12.5m tag axle coach/motorhome that will need annual inspections. We're in Qld., have a son in NSW so can get it registered in either state. Victoria, SA and WA don't need you get an annual inspection, even if we have a 22t GVM.
They can fail a car from factory if wanted, you can always find a reason if you want. I got a a rwc with a car with half the drivers seatbelt ripped, I got a car to install new radio equipment straight from the dealer with a chip in the windscreen. (WE check cars bf they leave them with us..... informed the guy it was un road worthy.) It was a bmw and he was a prick but IDC. It came like that.

I guess they just turn a blind eye to it because there's nothing you can do about it - the actual glass is tinted from the factory it's not a film you can remove.

Dunno about Aus but next door in NZ we have to check the safety std markings on the window glass which is normally on the lower rear of the glass.Can get away with it by removing the glass but it gets a bit windy, the bugs get in and there is nothing to stick the tint film to.Short answer,build a bridge.
Would be nice, unfortunately the tint rule is windscreen and front windows. The reason, (wether it’s reasonable or not is a different story) is in low light conditions the vision to the side mirrors can be affected. This particular tint not so much but I have seen then them as dark as a welding lens lol
