Damaging the case, spring bars fly, messing with endlinks, grease all over... It's just like I watched myself 😄 Nice work! You got Yourself a new subscriber, Sir 👍
Hi, I just started watching this but let me tell that in advance: This channel offers, by far, the most authentic content and yet, it's the most underrated wristwatch oriented channel on TH-cam. I'm delighted with it! Many thanks from a loyal follower all the way from Turkey, mate. Cheers.
LOL! The best tutorial on TH-cam. Love the transparency and honest build and frustrations something that is happening to all of us. Not only showing how PERFECT everything goes by cropping the video to 10 minutes.
My watch was purchased 2 years ago from MAMACOO and, to this day, it still looks and runs as well as it did the day it arrived. That movement has never missed a beat despite never having been serviced. I can't complain about that.
33:30 much love me dude, so goes amateur watch building. I do the same and try to learn from each flub! Also, I too had trouble fitting a Namoki bracelet, the Presidential (5 link!), to an OE Seiko SRPD case, couldn’t use the supplied far spring bars. Now that I’ve had it on for a while, it was easier to remove and reinstall, but has worn down my case.
Sadly that press has way too much frame flex at the base mounts to maintain a straight push, you can see it flex when he uses it. Regardless what an amazing classy looking watch, immaculate-!
I thought the same thing. No wonder the bezel and crystal press were off. The head rotated backward when pressure was applied and loaded against the watch
I had the same problem with the same tool. I found a washer-shaped spacer just thick enough to fill the gap underneath where they left room for a watch strap (bad idea). Much better.
So clean... these are the exact design decisions I'd go with for my dream watch. If this look could be achieved in a 39mm case, closer to ~10mm case thickness, I would instantly buy everything required to make it myself
Also on shiny new stuff I always use one side of a plastic bag between the tool and bezel, you never scratch them. I have been doing this as a hobby for 20 years and thought I would pass on some tips I have picked up over the years.
I too am a Grand Seiko fan. Look at their sbgw series of watches. Cheaper than most Grand Seikos but with a fantastic 9s64 hand wind movement. Most are well under 5k.
I dont know if you will read this. But I started watch making about 12 months ago, because I saw this video. I absolutely love this build and you inspired me to make my own semi-sucessful channel. Just wanted to say thank you!
That's so awesome! Really cool that one of your videos got 16,000+ views in such a short time (for a channel with under 500 subs). It's only going to go UP from here! Keep up the great work! And thanks for taking the time to comment and let me know! I'm so glad that this video could inspire you to build your own watches and make videos on it! God bless you!
Amazing video the type of video that I can watch while I work and it's totally relaxing. I just went through an issue where I bought an inexpensive Seiko JDM. The watch is very beautiful but I needed to replace the metal bracelet because it was obviously of a lower quality. I ended up buying a very nice metal bracelet with straight end links. And you know what, I'm quite happy with the way it looks. Yes there is space between the edge of the case and the end link but somehow I think it looks very very nice.
I ordered the MM300 case from Watch and Style which allows any oem or oem aftermarket bracelet fit. I made mine as a GMT version of your mod using a date only white dial. Thanks for the inspiration!
Outstanding documented build. Never tried this yet, but videos like this make for a terrific DIY process definition. Thanks. "oooooooh nooooooooo". lol
I used to watch your videos all of the time and I couldn’t find your Chanel until just now. Was worried you’d taken it down it’s a relief to see your still making this top quality content the quality of your videos is awesome
ARR So the dials are seconds, yea ? I see their is a chip at 12 on the black dial too.. hope you share the place to get S dials. I may go for one of these. sure looks sweet. be nice if you could get the GS sweeping movements no.. subbed up lad...
Just received the Seestern S446 GMT in the mail yesterday. Terrific watch. Very close homage to the Grand Seiko SBGM221 GMT. I went for the dark gray (black) dial with red GMT hand. Uses the NH34 GMT mov't.
WOW, I wish I had the money to make watches like this. Classy and you have it. I am jealous every time I watch you build one. Makes me wish I was not old and retired but young like you again. Absolutely beautiful. By the way, the 5105 Vietnam watch reminded me of my time there in 1970-72. PS: New builders should see that that is a double lock stem winder like Rolex makes. Again, you are amazing and the choices of builds are different and great. Do a GS snowflake dial sometime. I may not be able to afford to build them, but I can see them come together on here. Nice mate.
Hi Dan, loved the build and it turned out stunning, my first time watching your channel. I do a bit of fanagling myself and it was comforting to see its not just me who gets into trouble with this wonderful hobby. I'm about to start my own GS homage with aliexpress sourced parts. I'll video it with my phone, so not to your standard but perhaps it'll be of some help to others.
I upgraded to that press recently from the regular old plunger style presses. It does need a little bit more ass, I may remake the frame out of steel while keeping the lead screw mechanism. Couple of tips from pro watchmaker: The first die you were using to try to press on the bezel was too wide and it was simply flaring out instead of pushing down. If the bezel doesn't interfere with the crystal I would have done the bezel first cuz you wouldn't have to worry about clearing the crystal with the die. I didn't notice if there was something about the case where you have to put the dial in first, but I always do case assembly like that with the movement out if I can. Just makes it a lot less likely you'll damage your dial hands and movement if something goes wrong. Finally I saw you had the whole case sitting on its case back on the aluminum die on the bottom of the press. This is contraindicated to say the least as it can collapse the case back. I always use a dye that contacts the case solidly on its own flanks not on the case back itself. Hope this helps, keep up the great videos I really enjoy your channel!
Great build video, but I’m not sure Grand seiko should be the Tag. What part of this watch speaks to Grand seiko? The movement? The dial? It’s like a Pontiac Fierro dressed up as a Lamborghini
A hack for getting in the pins when they are misaligned like this is to use one of those flossers that has a short section of floss between forked plastic. Use the floss section to push the rod in the way you want it to go. Once it goes, in, you'll have to cut the floss to get it out as it usually binds. I did it like you for an hour until I used that and it took 5 seconds.
I was removing a crown and stem from an nh35 the other day. I was wondering if I was the only person that removes it with their mouth like a cave man. Good stuff man.
I watched your video from beginning to end and it was really refreshing to see the struggles and things that go wrong with a mod. I started modding about 8 months ago and I curse and swear with every build lol. Watch turned out sick good! 🎉
That turned out great! A little big for my wrist but there is definitely a vintage grand seiko vibe. I'm also building a vintage king/grand seiko day date homage but with a 36mm oyster case, black dial and lumed indicies and hands with red second hand. Just waiting for the parts, similar anticipation.
Hi Dan, Another authentic video, thank you! Can you tell me where your managed to source the Samurai style chapter ring, that's a fit for SKX sized cases please? Thanks
Seems like the link i put in the description is out of stock. I found this one that seems to be the same in measurements. But the black and red one is also out of stock here: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005709419789.html I hope this helps. Might just be worth searching for SKX007 chapter rings until the ones you need show up. Usually takes me a while to find what I want if its not the common choice.
Thanks Dan, Thanks for this, I saw your vid and thought I would rebuild a Seiko dress watch I had completed a while ago, and use a newer bigger case, and the stepped pilot bezel from our friends at Namoki. You are right the Samurai style chapter ring really pops! I m really after a black and white, SKX sized one but that's like hens teeth I think. Chrs Tim

Thanks very much! I'm glad you're getting some enjoyment from my videos. To answer your question: no I don't sell the builds that I do, I consider myself an amateur at best and wouldn't be comfortable selling my watches for what they're worth if a buyer had issues due to mistakes on my end.
Just built my watch with this case and blue dial polished chapter ring bgw9 hands with c3 on ring and markers. But fitting the crystal shifted the chapter ring. Gutted lol
You're probably right, but after swapping the chapter rings and putting the crystal back in for the last time, it went in perfectly straight. So in that last glamour shot you see at the end of the video, its perfect. I might look into getting a better crystal press if I keep doing more full builds.

Try wristwatch revival, I think you’ll find he is the king of watch making on TH-cam.
@@ragetobe defo agree but nekkid watchmaker is my favorite.
That is one truly immaculate watch case and face. This one is difficult to beat for the definition of the word stunning.
I don’t usually like this Lego kit watches but this is by far the nicest one I’ve seen. Subbed.
It always amazes me how much beauty and precision are added to the parts of amzwatch's watch 99% of people will never see.

I really like that you show all the issues during the build! Thanks!
Love your channel with so many stellar watches! For me the MAMACOO’ watch is my favorite. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.
Why doesn't this guy have more subs? Great content, wonderfully produced.
Outstanding video.I have to go with the AMZWATCH, especially with that green dial as my favorite

You can see the flex really well at 24:05 when pressure is released after the bezel is successfully installed.
Agreed - stunning watch build.
If it didn't flex so much it would have I stalled the crystal and bezel without him having 2 overnighten it so much.
I had the same problem with the same tool. I found a washer-shaped spacer just thick enough to fill the gap underneath where they left room for a watch strap (bad idea). Much better.
Loved the look of this at first sight and immediately bought all the parts! Looking forward to building this one! Cheers!

Before installing the glass, try blackening its side edge with a marker. This will slightly increase the contrast and reduce highlights :)

Absolutely Stunning.
Always use a sheet of plastic to protect parts when screwing down backs etc. it is a must from what I have seen. Also, I noticed from watching Rolex bracelets being sized; they always size them with the clasp adjusted in as long as it can be. This way you have more length to adjust out later without looking for extra links. Makes sense to me. Use the tweezers pin removers to put pins in case and you wont scratch them taking pins in and out. Just a FYI.
Use a case back removal ball. Best way to remove the screwed on caseback.
I think the best way is to use a caseback removal tool, they are after all made to do just that. But yeah a rubber ball will work at times if it isn't screwed on too tight.
