    One thing to note: I can't speak for the water resistance of this mod since I changed the caseback, and the threads on it aren't as tall as the original caseback. If you're concerned about water resistance, I'd leave the original caseback on this one.

      I don't know much about watches, but my guess is that the water seal on the case back is created by the o-ring. As long as the o ring has sufficient compression (but not too much) then it should seal fine.
      I had no idea that you could swap out the bezel for a non-rotating one. The watch you built is very similar to what I want but haven't been able to find. I'd like a higher contrast dial and hands (because middle age sucks) but pretty much everything else is exactly what I want. Thanks for the vid! Now I've got to do some tool shopping.

      Nice mod, one question what did you use instead of that fake click spring ? I have a similar case (a bit bigger, turtle 🐢 style) I opened the bezel and lost than spring :( don't know what to put now there. 😑

      This is a great tutorial video after the ones from Lumeshot. Great work ! You could have explained the work on the crown, just in case somebody wants a S Crown put on the case. Nevertheless super work and video. I did the same work with my SKX, but not with the same dial, I used a Aliexpress Grand Seikoish black dial which had both positions available. My problem was with the crown, which was at the end so wear down, that I had to use again the original one, because the work with the stem had ruined my S crown, which not liked to screw in smoothly anymore. The sizes of the hands are 8x12x12,5 mm (hour, min, secs) for 28,5 mm dials. Wish you Good holidays.

    Hey man great work and quality video. I recently finished a mod myself. I subscribed after you mentioned the alignment issue using the dial dots to secure the dial. That happened to me and I didn’t see anyone else talk about that issue. Look forward to more videos. Cheers.

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I appreciate it. The dial dots are a tricky issue. I did actually update the watch after this video, and remove the hands and re-fit the dial. I replaced the several dial dots I used with 4 half size ones and kept gently lifting the dial with a thin crafting knife/blade to move it into alignment. It took about 4-5 test fits to get it perfect, but I'm happy to say the dial is now perfectly aligned.
      One thing I did to help with alignment was looking at where it needed to be, in relation to the chapter ring, and making a small mark on the plastic movement spacer at the 6 o'clock position to align the dial roughly to.

    I've done similar to an Invicta Prodiver. Its funny when you're done. Its a watch YOU love to death but probably not one you could ever sell. Mine ended up with a sanded down and brushed case, crown, smooth Murphy steel bezel, Dagaz dial and handset and lug tip turn downs sanded to rounded edges like you did your crown guards. I've named it Mongrel. Great job, save those Heimdallr parts as they're good leftovers! I've got a 6105 thats been through the wringer with one killed movement (invicta NH heart swap saved it) from a hard drop and one failed case gasket from being apart so many times. Still runs like....well.....a watch!

    I’m loving your video presentations (even the mess ups which can teach newbies what to look out for) and your dialogue keeps us engaged. Well done. As for crown guards digging into your wrist; all I can say is I don’t know of many people at all that wear their watches so low on the wrist it’s almost on the hand, which is why! Of course it is a personal preference but usually it’s not meant to be worn over the wrist crease and so low, but hey ho, it’s ultimately your choice and therefore, you live with the consequences.

    I am waiting on delivery for my first "big boys" Seiko a custom modded Tuna, the case has been knurled quite extensively in a diamond criss cross pattern with the bezel coin edge being matched by the machinist who did the work but retained the 4R36 dial and movement, only thing I am changing is the aftermarket Mercedes hands as I have a set of silohuette with red edging SKX007 hands although I also have a set of neon green fishbone hands I am eyeing as well. Actually I do have a custom Turtle, got it from Aliexpress this year featuring NH36 day date, sapphire crystal and sapphire bezel insert in a pleasing red to dark red to black theme with the numerals in the sapphire bezel being fully C3 lumed too...

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Simplifier123 I think you can get away with just a dial swap if the indices don't exceed the size of the cutouts in the chapter ring that comes with the Heimdallr. Looking at them, and comparing to images of the actual monster watches, it looks like they're made to the same size (LOOKS LIKE). So as long as they didn't glue the chapter ring to the Heimdallr dial, I think a dial swap might be possible.

      www.watchpartsplaza.com/us/seiko-srp309k1-2nd-generation-orange-monster-dial.html
      It seems like it comes with a chapter ring attached to it, as the Heimdallr does, I've seen it here:
      facebook.com/295833707874779/posts/715463825911763/
      Hard to tell if the chapter ring is at the same height in both dials.

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Looking at those, I'd say if the Heimdallr is true to most of the dimensions of the original (at least internally) if the chapter ring doesn't separate it might be worth getting that dial+chapter ring from WatchPartsPlaza and just trying it out. If it doesn't fit, you could send the dial back, or just resell it on eBay for the same you bought it for, i'm sure someone out there would buy it. I wonder if you could get the dimensions of the height of the chapter ring on the OEM dial from WatchPartsPlaza, then you could compare measurements to your Heimdallr before you even buy it!
      Edit: yeah... looks like the chapter ring is part of the dial and is glued on.

The only solution I could come up with was to see if I could get a custom white dial from DIAL MAKER that has those thin polished indices from the great wave dial or the galaxy dial and have them print the Seiko/automatic text onto the dial in black. The pilot bezels are just a really tight friction fit. Since they're fixed in place, and don't rotate, they don't need a bezel gasket. As for regular rotating bezels, I've tried them on this case, and they're not compatible. Since the bezel click system is different.

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the Heimdallr cases use different crowns to the SKX ones. I mention this in the video at 34:36. Although I don't have exact specs on gasket thickness or the threads for the crown, they're different enough just on a simple inspection that I wouldn't risk the water resistance of the watch by using an skx crown. My advice would be to stick to the Heimdallr crown, just get yourself the sterile version so it doesn't have any branding on it.

    Would it be reasonable to hire a watchmaker to make a mod like this?

    • @NW-lj6oo
      @NW-lj6oo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do that but it brings more cost into the project. My first build was an ETA 7750, which I could not finish due to a lack of tools so I took it to a watchmaker and was charged £45GBP for the work. The trick is to watch many videos like ‘It’s Another Watch’ and plan the project very well as these projects are doable (unless your have a shaky handy), but need handling carefully. They are immensely rewarding when done correctly.

    Please, please, please do something similar to the Steeldive 1970. I am curious what a "Dressy Willard" looks like.

    Do you have any suggestions for a similar dial? Because they are out of stock and have ben, haven’t found one on eBay.

      Unfortunately not. There are some similar dials out there, but none i've found to even come close to how good this SARY057 dial looks. I've had the same problem when looking for the SARY055 dial to do a white version of this. I've even bought some aftermarket dials but they just don't look right.

      Thanks for letting me know. I picked up a couple of aftermarket dials. They look good but there’s definitely room for improvement on them. I’m not complaining about the price but haven’t had much luck finding original dials.
      I have noticed that you are using a generic spring bar tool. I bought the Bergeon one and I bought both sizes of forks, screws in and out for change or replacement. It cost me about 40 usd for the tool and I found the other set of forks for like $5. It makes bracelet changes so much easier. That is probably the best money I have spent on a tool, it’s that good.

    I dont use Bezels at all. Id rather they don't move easily . I hate to see it mis-aligned with the slightest touch. Good review.

    Hi Dan. I'm sad. I have just destroyed 2 Turtles. The bezels are nearly impossible to remove. I have removed a couple that weren't too bad, but I had 2 including my grail. the orange Nemo that the bezel removal required a hammer. I put a squishy foam mouse pad under the watch to absorb some of the shock. A couple taps of the hammer onto the knife will finally pop up the bezel, but then I noticed the dial rotated inside the watch. Not good. Took one for repair today (not the nemo) and there were several broken pieces. The nemo just broke tonight. The bezel was seized so i had to remove it anyway. Now, I assume there will be the same broken pieces inside the nemo. I think the weight of the rotor is breaking the spindle/stem? That's my guess as they said the rotor broke off on the one I took for repair today. I didn't think that hammering on the knife while the watch was stationary would cause breakage. Even Namoki mods page suggests a hammer may be necessary for really difficult bezels.

      That sucks... Unfortunately there's not much I can say. I think you can still salvage these watches, but if the movements were damaged they'll need replacing and if the dial feet snapped off due to the force of the hammer, they'd need to be re attached with dial dots. This will just have to be one of those hard learning experiences, if you ever need to use impact force to remove a Bezel, its always worth removing the movement first.
      I hope that you're able to get them sorted out.

      @@ItsAnotherWatch Thanks brother. I honestly didn't think about removing the movements first. I wonder if they can fix the movements? I'll find out soon enough. The dial and the movement seem to have moved together as the day/date is still in the little window. I'm guessing the crown stem broke allowing it all to rotate?

      @@ItsAnotherWatch The funny thing is, the whole reason I changed the bezel and insert on the NEMO was to preserve the originals in perfect condition for the future. LOLLLLLLLL

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fakenewsisthenews3542 If it is just a snapped stem then that should be fairly simple to repair, as long as there isn't any damage to the rest of the movement.

    I have an srpd51. Can I do this same mod to my seiko?

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you'd swap the dial, hands, chapter ring and bezel. Because the SPRD51 is blue, you'd either have to get a similar blue dial (to avoid having to replace the chapter ring) or remove the crystal to change to a black chapter ring, which would require a crystal press to remove and put the crystal back in.
