I like the fact that this man is showing us real used tools. Tried and true not some tool collector show of brand new tools that we have no idea if the actually hold up well.

Greatly appreciate that . I try to use and abuse my tools to see what holds up and what doesn't granted some get used a lot more than other but none the less there is a home for every tool and a tool for every home. Thanks for watching

Agreed! It's like most things, don't judge a book by its cover...you need seat time to determine quality and performance over a period of time. As for the "tool collectors" I'd say this, don't watch their content! Watch guys like @Classic Lines Auto to get the perspective that you're looking for...

@Midwest Tool Review greatly appreciate the comment man . Don't get me wrong I love the tool collectors gives me ideas to go broke over down the road but once again greatly appreciate the support.

@@classiclinesautomotive I appreciate that! I think people make comments before their brains cells catch-up to what they're saying...lol Nonetheless, anything in life that is worth spending money on, requires research before committing. I like to watch creators that some would consider to be "tool collectors" because you get to see what is new and exciting. If I want to know how well a tool will hold up, I'll defer to watching a professional mechanic/technician, one of which I know has a demanding job, requiring tools to perform each and every day. That's just how I work through the process of determining what to consider buying...

The fact that this guy has a bad ass, snap on box and other snap on tools, but is still willing to endorse a different tool that would be considered budget speaks volumes to me. This is the kind of guy whose opinion I would take seriously.

Tekton is a great choice in my opinion. I also like how they have the bigger sizes in wrenches and sockets. So a truck / Fleet mechanic like myself can get the bigger sizes. my favorite tool from them so far is the angle wrenches and the chisels ..

I’ve been using some of the tekton tools I have for almost 15 years, I’ve broken a few but they hold to their warranty very well. I have a few that I still use quite often but over the last few years I’ve been fazing them out, giving them to my younger brother who is just getting into this industry and replacing them with snapon. I actually am not a fan of their ratchets except for a folding one I included in a comment left on an earlier video. If you want to get a ratchet that isn’t a tool truck brand then go with gearwrench. But I do mostly agree that tekton does a good job with their product and does an amazing job pricing them. Keep up the awesome content and stay greasy

I would say your younger brother is lucky to have you hooking him up .I'm almost tempted to buy a tekton ratchet and see how quick it breaks kinda want to do a tekton vs icon type thing maybe add in another brand and just beat on them for a month and see what happens .I have some gear wrench ratchets that I have had for years and they serve thier purpose I've learned though for ratchets I go directly for snap on. Thanks for the comment my man and keep wrenchin

You should! Get a tekton and an icon that are as close to the same as you can, and make sure they are ones a professional would get and do a weekly short video update on what your thoughts are. So I would get like the full length 3/8 flex head with the metal handle, that would be a really fun video. Then maybe at the end of those videos, take the one you liked the best and compare it to a gearwrench that’s the same basic design and do a string of videos like that. You could get a lot of content for short videos that would really help new technicians get a ratchet that is more affordable then a tool truck brand like snapon.

@jonathon mcmurray that's a fantastic idea I guess I'm gonna have to make a harbor frieght trip and make an order to tekton . Possible just buy a new gearwrench one and see what comes out on top

I’m really excited to see what you come up with! I personally think it’s just worth spending the money on a snapon ratchet even for new guys, but some guys just can’t afford it, and there is nothing wrong with that. So some education that is based on some experience from a full time technician, could really help them out. Let me know if you ever set up a patron thing, these kinds of videos are something I would be happy to pitch in a little for.

I switched to Tekton in 2016 for all my new tools needs. I restore old cars as a hobby. and i would spend money on my current project than buying overpriced tool truck brand tools. however, the stuff that is available to the home DIY mechanic form the big box stores is crap. craftsman was made by the Stanley Tool Works Division of Stanly Black and Decker up until around 1992. STW also made Blackhawk and Proto industrial tools. but then craftsman went to hell when they switched suppliers to China. I have not tried the new Stanley Black make ones at Lowes yet. Kobalt is a dying brand now Lowes pick up craftsman. Kobalt was made by William tool the company that makes Snap-on, but Lowes switched around 2008 to JS products. the Williams Tool made stuff was as good as Snap-On, but then switch to JS products for their importer and quality went to straight to hell. the harbor freight Pittsburg line has always been junk, and downright dangerous in some cases. I have not tried the new icon stuff. but I love my Tekton stuff and have no reason to switch. I have my old Pittsburg stuff the wrecking yards, so if it gets stolen or lost, I don't care. Tekton is in the perfect price point for me as a hobbyist that enjoys restoring old cars. the cool quality is as good as, or better than the tool trucks, but a cost on part with Gear Wrench or other mid-tier tool manufactures. i have yet to break.

I did the transmission and rear end last month. So, almost back to running and driving shape. Then it's of the body shop for a new coat of paint

Big thing is it's minimally made in China it says 1% on their website. I do my best to stay away from Chinese stuff just because. Sounds like they have a good warranty process as well and that is a big big deal. Also noticing about skips I hate skips because sooner or later you will find a fastener for every single size socket. If a set comes without certain sockets I will buy them to make sure I have the complete set. Tekton, Gearwrench, Sunex, Capri, even Bluepoint are manufactured offshore. In the end, it comes down to materials and design. If the material is strong and the design holds up, not much to differentiate one brand from another. Then, you consider price, which is more than likely what most people use as a deciding factor. Cr-Mo and Cr-V doesn’t change from supplier to supplier, so you’re not gaining much from supplier-to-supplier. I prefer Capri wrenches over all other sub-tier brands. The MAC precision torque wrenches are probably the best offshore manufactured wrench you could buy, but price is higher. In the end, not worth persuading one brand over another because the deciding factors that govern which brand someone will pick will differ from person to person…

My opinion is the sockets are too soft and don’t hold up over time. Yes any maker of any socket over time will wear out, but I don’t see it with my other sockets that I spent the bank on. I bought a few 12 point sockets to pair with torque wrenches (tekton) for some special drive line work. Don’t use them that much but a couple times a day. Over the course of a few months I end up stripping out the points … 55 on the torque which in my field isn’t a lot of torque. The torque wrench might hold up a year but is starting to feel loose and have play on it which again should be warranted. The thing with testing the torque and break away is that it is not real world … everyday use in my opinion is the real test. I’ve got gearwrench that’s held up longer and I consider them throwaway sockets

Tekton tools are great for the price, excellent sets available and tools available individually as well if you misplace something or it grows legs and disappears. Their warranty and customer service is top notch. I've filled out the form online twice times from my phone. Once was a bad pair of pliers Lowes sold me online and wanted me to drive 2+hrs each way to return them. I reached out to Tekton and had a new pair in my mailbox 3 days later. I've also warrantied a deadblow hammer I wrecked pounding on 100 1/2" socket head bolts. I very much admitted to abusing the tool and they sent me a new one that showed up a few days later. Both times I snapped 2-3 photos, went on the website, submitted the form and provided a shipping address and a new tool was in the mail quicker than it took for me to write this comment. I'll also add the deadblow was a size they no longer make and they sent me the next size up. I would love a set of their ratchet wrenches when they become available again. Great tools, good price, great service, they're making an effort to manufacture in the US when it's cost effective. All very good things. My only gripe is that I ordered impact socket sets on the rails and they came with metric on the red rail and sae on the black rail. Typically sae is red when both sets are present. It took me a half an hour and two beers to swap everything around to my liking. That is my only complaint I can come up with. And it's arguably just personal preference. Anyways, buy them on the website to get the 10% back and prompt free shipping, sometimes they give 15-20% back during sales. Two thumbs up from me.
