Planes Trains and Automobiles is my #1 favorite comedy of all time, as well as just being one of my favorite movies of all time. Very happy to see it amongst all the other movies.
I love these 31 on 31 videos so much, the intro was f'n priceless. Planes, Trains and Automobiles is definitely my favorite on this list. Amazing job as always Cody. 🤘
Of this awesome list of comedies, here are my Top 10 Favorites: 10. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby-A terrific racecar comedy that mixes together a great ensemble cast with satire of American excess, which makes for a fantastic comedy from Will Ferrell 9. Happy Gilmore-Even though Adam Sandler gets dunked on for his comedies of the last fifteen years, this one never fails in delivering a great time in Sandler’s manchild antics through the sport of golf 8. Step Brothers-While I find this movie to be incredibly funny from beginning to end, I’ve always appreciated this one for its silly humor reinforcing the message of no matter how old you get, never lose your inner child, which I think is something this one doesn’t get enough credit for 7. National Lampoon’s Vacation-A consistently funny road trip comedy that balances the family friendly comedy of the hijinks of what’s going on while being able to have more edgy, adult comedy at the same time 6. Tropic Thunder-Even though this one’s a bit more extreme than a lot of the films on this list, none of that stops this movie from being a brilliant satire of the eccentricities and ruthlessness of Hollywood with self-aware humor, action shenanigans, and my favorite cameo of all time in the Les Grossman character 5. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles-No matter how many Thanksgivings go by, I’ll always hold this road trip film near and dear to my heart for its ability to be incredibly funny in its comedy, but also be very sentimental in ways I don’t think we see as often in storytelling of today 4. In Bruges-As a big fan of all four of Martin McDonagh’s films, this is my favorite of them as it’s able to blend together sharp McDonagh dialogue, profound themes of religion and morality, dark humor, and fantastic performances from Colin Farrell, Brenden Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes, which makes for an incredibly holistic experience of a film 3. Dumb and Dumber-An absolutely perfect mix of incredibly stupid humor written and delivered in the most clever of ways with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels’ chemistry elevating this film to be one of the funniest movies ever made 2. Spaceballs-Because of my love of Star Wars and science fiction, I’ve always loved and adored this movie for its jabs at various franchises in Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, Planet of the Apes, Transformers, and 2001: A Space Odyssey, which makes for the comedy I’ve probably rewatched the most times 1. Groundhog Day-An absolutely hilarious time loop comedy that has Bill Murray at his funniest, plenty of memorable moments and lines, a script that’s both cynical and sentimental at the same time, and an efficient runtime, which makes for one of my Top 10 Favorite Movies of All Time
Surprised "This is 40" didn't make the Judd Apatow cut, especially following up Knocked Up. My wife and I love that movie. Loved the intro and little bits you had between the line up, haha. Thanks Cody, this was very entertaining!
31- airplane 30-anchorman 29- old school 28-mutliplicty 27- blazing saddles 26-spaceballs 25-vacation 24-kingpin 23-weird science 22-happy Gilmore 21step brothers 20-zoolander 19-knocked up 18-road trip 17-the hangover 16-there is something about Mary 15-dumb and dumber 14-funny people 13-young Frankenstein 12-tallageda nights 11-ferris bullers day off 10-cable guy 9-the 40 year old virgin 8-Shaun of the dead 7-in Bruges 6-tropic thunder 5-hot fuzz 4-at worlds end 3-coming to America 2-groundhog day 1-planes trains and automobiles
Out of all the genres out there comedy is definitely the most subjective. Almost anyone of these movies could be #1 or 31 on some list, somewhere. Loved the intro.
I love the insight on the history between you and your father with trains, planes and autombiles. Reminds me of times during my childhood with my mother.
So glad ypu werent the only one to show the big gulps clip. Easily the funniest throw away moment in any comedy. Also love the hell outta something about brian. For some reason watching all of 31s, the something about mary song was stuck in my head. Never really thought about it, but it would def be near the top of this list for me.
I adore Mel Brooks' movies, and I dont think our lists of favorites could be any different -- and I love that! Glad I found your channel! New perspectives are great, especially the ones I can get while flopped on my couch.
My favourite comedy of all time is Christmas Vacation , but Planes, Trains & Automobiles is in my top five as well. I watch it every year at Thanksgiving, in a cinema.
There’s something about Mary is a movie I first saw about a year ago and I’m glad I waited. It was by far the greatest comedy movie experience I’ve ever had. I didn’t expect much from it for whatever reason and it completely blew me away
I feel like this needs a follow up series! It was great seeing this list of comedies! Surprised there wasn't more Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy or Chris Farley.
I agree wholeheartedly on Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I have many great memories watching it with my parents. Not just a great comedy, but an amazing, heartfelt film.
To me if i can rewatch dozens of times without it feeling stale then it suceeds. So Talledega, Groundhog Day, Planes, Coming to America, Happy Gilmore and a couple others will top that list.
We have the same number 1 for basically the same reasons. My dad and I used to watch that one all the time so it’s one that always reminds me of him. Great list!

I really don't like parody either and would definitely put them at the bottom of the list for me. I can't watch blazing saddles or space balls. It's just an opinion though, and comedy is incredibly subjective
Hey Cody Great List! I didn't rank them all.. but here's my Top 12: 12. The 40-Year-Old Virgin 11. Airplane 10. National Lampoon's Vacation 9. Old School 8. Step Brothers 7. Road Trip 6. The Hangover 5. The Cable Guy 4. Happy Gilmore 3. There's Something About Mary 2. Kingpin 1. Dumb And Dumber
Yeah... this was rough. Seeing Edgar Wright mediocre comedies above the classic kills me. Shaun of the dead is solid but world is the end being higher then so many classics and some low brow comedies being higher then classics. I love plane trains but I don't find it hillarous. It's just a really good and has funny moments but surprized with the ranking.
Bit heartbroken about Anchorman but awesome video cody, here is my ranking 1. Step Brothers 2. Anchorman 3. Happy Gilmore 4. Talladega Nights 5. The Hangover 6. Old School 7. Road Trip 8. Hot Fuzz 9. Shaun of the Dead 10. The Cable Guy 11. Knocked Up 12. The 40 year old virgin 13. Zoolander 14. Tropic Thunder 15. There's something about Mary 16. Planes, Trains & Automobiles 17. Dumb & Dumber 18. In Bruges 19. Multiplicity 20. Funny People 21. Groundhog Day 22. Coming to America 23. Vacation 24. Weird Science 25. The World's End 26. Kingpin 27. Airplane! 28. Ferris Bueller's day off 29. Space Balls 30. Blazing Saddles 31. Young Frankenstein
I lost a good friend of mine a few months ago who had a lot of the same mannerisms as John Candy in "Planes, Trains and Automobiles". He was in many ways my opposite (Like John Candy and Steve Martin's characters), but that never got in the way. He died suddenly from a heart attack. So now when I see John Candy deliver his "I like me, my wife likes me" monologue, it's difficult for me to watch because all I think about is my friend.
After watching all the other comedy 31 on 31’s for comedy (perhaps due to the subjectivity level of comedy?), this has been the most all over the place with regards to placement we’ve seen. God damn 😂

The intro was GOLD😹
My favorite comedy is Superbad, sad to see it not make the list. Would’ve loved to hear your take on it, I think it’s a timeless masterpiece
This intro was awesome and made me laugh. I always knew you were a funny dude but now I want to see more extended comedy bits from you Code Man.
The fact that Step Brothers was all improvised is crazy
You guys got me through a bad time yesterday. Thank you
Absolutely not my opinion about all these films but I respect your list, Cody.
Well Cody proved he is my favorite content creator! Planes, Trains is also my favorite Comedy for almost the exact same reasons! Along with Christmas Vacation they are must watches for the Holiday’s.
