Apart from his brilliance, his song writing, his distinctive voice and his powerful electric guitar playing, it is so good to hear his sensitive acoustic playing as well. What an artist, what a performer.
On The Beach..to me. was a truly wonderful album. I wore one copy out...so replaced it with another. Neil showing his versatility, yet again with this acoustic version of his successful blues abilities. He is already a legend in my book and a VERY original one cat that. Much respect for him , as he never "sold-out" to "The Machine" of the recording industry. True Musical freaking Icon! So glad he is still with us!
One of the finest Canadian songs ever recorded. I can, and have listened to it 10 times in a row. Layne Staley would have been able to do this song justice.....
Living in LA when the critics were having a field day because they were ticked he didn't put out a 'Neil Young album'. He has always been true to himself. Saw him at Salinas high school gym one night and then the Catalyst in Santa Cruz the next night, both for $5/a show. That was his other 'ticked off at critics' period as referenced in the NY biography. Ten feet away from the man with so much passion, he wailed that weekend.
his best album--so bluesy yet melodic--low notes on his voice-panned by theNME and Melody Maker in the UK--but Disc and REcord Mirror loved it---and so didi in Swansea.Wales. Incredible sounds as fresh to-day.Amazingly I love his much underrated debut album too--does anybody else? Thanks for posting this--great recording!
Even if you cant play guitar, and play the first 2 chords (main?) This song melts you. 1 thumb and a very finite number of notes found something unique in this world.
Part of me thinks he should have been doing this at every gig since On The Beach was released, but I know that the magic sparks that are fizzling from this incredible performance would be tempered somewhat, if he did.
well i've been to none of the shows in 2003, but sugarmtn.org says that hamburg was the only time he played on on the beach in 2003 - and they're usually right. the bootleg "at the cirkus" contains, besides the stockholm-show, some songs from the show in milan. but no one the beach though
The beach is Malibu just follow Topanga Canyon Road through the canyon, Neils home at the time of this recording, and there is the, due west go west, there you are "On The Beach"
floydytoidy Agreed. I want to see him sing this. But for Neil the music always comes first even before him as a personality. Music is shared. WE have it.
Not played much in concert.Maybe that's why he misses singing half the lyrics to the song. Not the best live version, but like I said said, he doesn't play it often.

on of his best songs , but he played it live very few times .
Neil young is genius .
mamal moj Agreed. A Truly Wonderful Song...He Rarely Did Live.

I'm on my 3rd copy.
Absolutamente excecional... Neil quando voltas aos concertos? Precisamos de ti?
Just astounding. This is the first time I have heard this played live.
James Mulligan same
Look for the recording at ''The Bottom Line'' around the time this came out.
Rarely played it live. Top version.
All my problems are meaningless... Thanks Neil!
Though my problems are meaning less...

Ontariosound imagine Layne covering this
Mellow and magical.
Throw a bone on that conclusion
Love the sound of his Martin. Great performance filled with emotion.

Doug Gruba Man, Om Freaking Jealous! What An Experience I'm Sure. Neil, Is My All Time Favorite Musician/Songwriter & Singer. Period.
I've heard the Catalyst shows were special--as the Ducks, right? Some of that music shows up on bootlegs.
@@timb.2222 He was playing with Crazy Horse. In fact, I have one of Ralph Molina's sticks when he tossed it into the crowd.
@@wvufreak56 I was blessed to see him all the way from San Diego to Santa Cruz many times.
Excellent !
Absolutely fantastic version. Beautiful, soulful. Guitar sound is sparkling. Just great.
Thank you Kris for this perfect song. I'm an old fan of Neil. The world is turning, but Neil still stands.
That's great to read, Pierre. It is my favorite too.

The Paramount, Neil Young Greendale live in Hamburg. This was recorded in the wonderful city of Hamburg.
OMG, is this real? The finger pickin' guitar. The voice. The lyrics. Such a beautiful song.
Breathtakingly intense!!
the best!
One of the top 50 songs in Neil's carrier. Brilliant acoustic blues in a personnal way.

unreal
The printed word and Neil's Music will radiate Through Time
this video has 420 likes. i like it very much but i do not want to disturb that magical number
It's from the 2003 Stockholm concert "At the Cirkus"
He changed some of the original lyrics in this version. His pictures are now hanging on the wall instead of falling from it.
bodaciouscowboy
Very observant of you. Neil like a bit of variety. Likes to twist it up sometimes.

You're a very fortunate soul.
Damn..............................

persevere4 Or maybe pescadero beach on 84/highway 1 right down the road from broken arrow ranch which is his home then and now. Northern Cali!
le rêve en fermant les yeux
Bonne idée 👍
♥️😘
the only thing that would have been better is watching him play this....
floydytoidy

amazing. do you know where i can get more recordings from these amazing 2003 shows, besides the few you have on your channel? would be very grateful
Yikes, where did you find this?! Great quality. Not many acoustic versions, hope he busts it out on the current tour.
@iused2BAfireman without knowing for sure this must be from 2003-04-29 hamburg, germany, since this was the only time he played on the beach in 2003
Prachtig! Is dit de versie van in de Stadsschouwburg in Antwerpen, 2003?
is this true? the commenter above says he played it in Stockholm too. would love to have this whole show...
What show was this from? Thanks for posting.
April 29, 2003 - Congress Centrum Hamburg, Hamburg Germany
