This was an IMMENSE help! Needed to take apart the terminal cover in the dark and when I went back to reinstall, was stuck. Your directions with how the terminal cover needed to be reinstalled saved me a ton of time!
Thank you! I got a new battery and the guy took the cover off and I couldn't figure out how to put it back on. Realized you have to disconnect it from terminal to get it back on.
You are very welcome. It's what I try to do here. Help people put. Please be sure to check out my other content on Tools Tech and diy, and if it makes sense for you, please subscribe!
Broke mine on my 2013 CRV this morning. The plastic is very brittle and the entire cover is pink while testing the condition of the battery. Going keep the floating one until I have time to repair it. Thanks!
You need to supply 12v from another battery or 12v jump starter. Before removing the battery terminal lugs. Hook them up before the battery terminal lugs. That way you save the memory. I only came on here to see how put on that confusing positive terminal cap.
Yes, providing 12v from a secondary source is well known. This video was geared towards novices and I have seen my fair share of people mix up the positive and negative and blow major components. So not wanting to introduce a potential major hazzard and wanting to make this as easy as possible I did not mention it. Add to that this was one of my first videos LOL! I had so much to learn on how to make videos on TH-cam. Thanks for watching and your comment.
How do you jumpstart it with this thing on? Haven’t messed with it because didn’t want to break it. You can’t get any cables on it with that plastic thing on it. Good video though. I just need to jump it as light was left on. Thanks!
The red positive terminal cover is designed to lift up and bend at the seam exposing the metal stud of the battery. If it breaks, it's because it's brittle and old, pay it no mind if it breaks. Simply grab it by the tab which is a couple inches above the + and pull it upward toward you. You will feel a click and it will lift. If it breaks completely off then replace it in the summer using this video. The real concern comes when the red positive battery terminal cover is missing and the hood rod is not secured. The rod can move and make contact with the battery causing a short or a fire. Also, note if it breaks at the seam you can still use it just click it back into place when you are done jumping the car and you can repair it later. Let me know if you need help you can email me, contact info is in the about section of my channel.
@@edtheoldtechguy thank you so much for the info and being there for me if I need help. Stopped messing with it before I watched your video. It’s dark out and below 0 with windchill. Thankfully it’s in the driveway and not somewhere else.
@Drew Prince My apologies but for some reason, I can't get your comment to show here. If you see this please know I just put the part numbers and web links to the parts in the description of the video. The black part known as the Holder Starter CA is Part number: 32124-r5a-300 I hope this helps.
Mechanically it's not needed but it is a protection measure. If the white plastic holder that secures the rod breaks while driving and you are missing that red cover and if that rod touches the positive terminal you will have a car fire or need to replace a computer. I made this video because I have had a few friends this happened too and I helped them rewire their car. In your case I suggest you make sure you find a way to cover your positive terminal. Take care friend.
What year CR-V is it David? Just bought a 2004 and it's missing. Looked EVERYWHERE for a part number and it seems Honda does not sell it for that year.

You will never know the point until you accidentally ground your positive post and your main wiring harness goes up in flames. I have repaired a few like that already and had to add a new factory computer too. This is a cheap easy preventive maintenance that can be done to never know the $2000 + bill I would charge to fix it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Well, it helps those who aren't mechanically-inclined figure out how the terminal cover is supposed to go on, so we don't frig it up, if that's what you're getting at, lol. And yeah, like Ed said, it actually serves a pretty important purpose. You might get lucky and never have an issue with the terminal shorting to ground or another electrical component, but why take the risk when the part is like $10 and takes 5 minutes to install?
On my daughter's 2010 Honda Civic, the hood rod holder broke, leaving the hood rod flapping all over under the hood. One place it can easily go is right on top of the bare + battery terminal! There is a plastic piece at the end of the rod, which most likely will prevent a short circuit and a car fire, but I don't want to take chances that my daughter's car will unexpectedly burst into flames at any time! HORRIBLE design by Honda!
Thank you for creating and posting this video. You gave me the knowledge and confidence to replace my GM part number 88988167 (positive cover) A very strange-looking battery terminal cover. Thank you for the instructions and video!

Very good, helpful video. Detailed pix and instructions. Could not have figured out how to install this bizarre part without you. Thanks!🤗😎
Thank you! I am so glad I could help. Its the reason for my channel. Jeez this was one of my first videos. All I see is the mistakes.
Thanks, I could not figure out how to put on this for 2 years!!!!
No problem! That's what my channel is here for.

2011 Honda CRV. You don't really need to remove the battery contacts to replace the red Positive cover.
You use a memory saver, it plugs into OBD port . No more losing radio stations!
Hey very true but most DIYers won't have that or buy it but it's a great suggestion.

Nice video.....too bad their wasn't a negative post cover as well. & $1500 from Honda! They might as well, offer you a stake in their dealership.
