4:26 that is the paarl derby, where paarl boys high play against paarl gimnasium. Biggest derby in south Africa arguably. There are also big schoolboy derbies like Affies vs Grey College, Paul Roos vs Grey College, Bishops vs Rondebosch, Affies vs Pretoria Boys High, yhe list goes on and on and on...
Yeah, but none are bigger than the Paarl Battle. Grey the undisputed king of South African rugby schools, but this game is bigger than the rest. Next up will be either Paarl teams, vs Paul Roos. The other big Southern derbies. Then Grey and Affies. Or Grey against any of the Three mentioned above.
8:32 forwards (numbers 1-8), especially the locks (4 & 5) and the loose forwards often tape their ears down to try prevent cauliflower-ear (a thickening of the cartiledge. Key word is "try"...
Also if you want to watch highlights of some of the best schoolboy rugby matches, Paarl Boys vs Paarl Gim 2022, Grey College vs Affies 2024, and even a smaller game like Waterkloof vs EG Jansen.
They are all "fairly young". These are High School boys, 17/18 year olds. Although I saw one clip where the one boy stiff arms another, around the 2:42 minute mark, the bar underneath said "Paarl Boys U/14".........so yes, in that clip the boys are 14 years old.
I began playing school rugby at 11 we had a really good team and won a lot of tournaments. Never had too many injuries just a couple of dislocated shoulders broken fingers lots of bruises. I continued playing and finally gave up in my late 30s. My daughter is now playing for the county and is now selected for the national team.
I love rugby but this is why I never played it in high school. I was super thin and would brake bones constantly. Kids are a whole different level. The common thing kids did was punch each other while you get tackled, in scums or in rugs. And the refs were like "walk it off"
No 1 to 8 is the bigger guys that push in the scrums and jump in the lineouts. No 9 to 15 is the faster guys in the back line. Not everybody is build like a tank.
At 5:00 the green and gold team are the SA Schools XV playing a junior international against Wales's u19 age group side. These players should be the best of our schoolboy players.
Some of the schools insist on making these events compulsory. If you want to attend the school then attending these events is also mandatory. That is one of many reasons to explain the amount of spectators.
Yeah roids are a problem here let's just put that out there 😂. "You sir must've been playing minecraft" 😂😂😂. Hey on the real though, when Kolbe started at my school he was a 100ish lbs and now he weights almost 200lbs so yeah the skinny guys you see are normally fast as fuck, those are wingers. The skinny guys can tackle though.
Really love your reactions, the thing about rugby that most everyone overlooks, is that is one of the sports for nearly every able body size, like whether being fat, skinny, tall, short etc. All you have to do is exercise and be fit and you can be accommodated 😊, that's the true value that every little kid no matter the size, but if they work hard their accepted into that team, then there's the morals and values that one learns from being in a team sport, any team sport ofcourse....
Rugby is like gladiator fights... South Africans live and breath this game and we bred for this... Should hear the warcries, straight out of a viking movie
Rugby is a region in our country and we harvest HUUUUGEEE rugby players from the age of 2 ..VIVA SOUTH AFRICA...VIVA AMABOKKE VIVA 4 X TIMES WORLD CHAMPS...VIVA THE G.O.A.TS
You watched boys age u14 all the to u18. South Africa is sport driven and school sport is huge and competitive. These boys train yr in and out specially academy boys and girls
the caps are callewd scrum caps and that stuff coming off the kids ear is tape, its to prevent cauliflower ear. you need to watch the grey's college history. they have like a 95% win rate in the last 50 or 60 years
No steroids. Very strict on that at school level. South Africans are just built different. Most of the top level rugby school have state of the art conditioning centers, top level coaches, nutritionists etc😊
3 players tested positive for banned PEDS at the 2023 Craven Week alone. PED use is endemic in SA school boy rugby, lets not pretend there is no problem as it has long term health repercussions for these boys.
I know a lot of your viewers are South African at the moment, but Rugby exists in Europe too! Please watch Antoine Dupont of France. He’s been the best player in the world for the past few years, and I would say he’s the greatest ever. French Rugby is much more beautiful to watch than the brutal SA style. I’m English too, so there’s no bias there.

Schoolboy rugby is massive here in South Africa. Its part of the culture. Thats why you see big crowds at these matches.
Rugby is for all sizes and shapes. One of the things that makes it a great sport.

No alcohol at school games, obviously, but here in sunny South Africa, most stadiums host beer gardens on provincial or international game days

School boy rugby is big in South Africa, towns come to a standstill for local derbies.
Some of the schools insist on making these events compulsory.
If you want to attend the school then attending these events is also mandatory.
That is one of many reasons to explain the amount of spectators.

The backline players are piano players, the forwards are piano movers😊
Haha the “skin” falling off his ear is just tape. The forwards use it to prevent cauliflower ear like the MMA guys get 😅
