So much to cover. First thing yesterday morning Ellie brings in a partially eaten domesticated chicken 🐓.
As I mentioned recently I have noticed quite the decline in the amount of food that was being brought into the nest. I assumed it was intentional as to encourage the eaglets to fledge.
Now I am wondering again whether this is part of another plan. Getting a large boost of protein certainly had an effect on the eaglets. Like the Red Bull energy drink, they had their Rhode Island Red chicken. Needless to say they had quite a lot of energy as the day went on.
As the evening settled in and the breeze picked up both Vic and Sid took their flying lessons up a notch. It all started with the usual flapping of their wings and hopping about the nest. Then Sid hops up to the usual spot, up to the left of the nest on to the larger trunk and then flies up and over to a smallish branch seven feet away! FLIES🦅
I couldn’t have been more excited-proud to see this happening with Sid. Sid who was certainly the under dog developing slower than Vic, the first born and more dominant eaglet. ( 1st 4 minutes ) Just watch how interested Vic is …
I just couldn’t edit this moment sorry. It’s like watching your kids graduate from university as they walk across the stage!
The other reason I decided to leave the video unedited ( all 16 minutes - pour yourself a cup of tea 🫖 ) is Vic also takes a first big leap/flight.
What I truly enjoy is watching the two eaglets watching each other. Vic who follows Sid up and over to the somewhat flimsy branch to land on. Then the excitement mounts as the two flap when the breeze blows and offers lift.
Then the moment comes when Vic flies/hops to the larger stump that we have seen the adults spend many hours perched on. ( 8 minute mark )
Vic’s reaction to the camera is priceless. Sid’s reaction to Vic is interesting too.
They both are aware of the camera as they have seen it since day one. However getting closer to it Vic’s interest/response is quite apparent.
So I expect that in the weeks ahead we will see less of the family as they continue to spread their wings looking for more adventures.
We have plans to hopefully add a microphone in the fall when the tree service company returns. This is the same skilled arborist who years ago topped the grand fir 🌲 and as a result, unintentionally created the foundation for the Whitehead family to set up shop 🪺
The adventure continues and I am so happy that so many people have enjoyed watching ❤️🦅🦅🦅🦅❤️

What a great video and description. Vic you're so cute, you little movie star. Sid flying 7 feet was exciting and magnificent. I'm so thankful to the Whitehead family for bringing me along for the experience of watching Ellie and Eddy raise their beautiful Eaglets. Thank you 😊
Absolutely love that you added the narrative of the days events, it is truly wonderful watching the videos long or short no matter, just having fun watching this family grow up
