  • Born to a Black Jamaican father and a White British mother in Hackney, East London, sisters Melanie and Kimberly Appleby didn’t have the easiest start in life. After their parent’s divorce, the girl’s mother was left to raise them on her own. Money was so tight that, for a time, they even lived in a hostel. Music was always present in their home and they regularly fantasized about becoming popstars.

I used to manufacture clothes in Hackney East London and on occasion Kim worked for me doing some overlocking just as the girls music career was starting. I got to know both Kim and Mel and yes, they really were lovely girls in real life and deserved the recognition for their talents. Kim, if you see this comment it’s Steve and I used to be a business partner with Andy and we both had German Shepherd dogs, mine was Max and Andy’s was Kelly.

We named our nightclub here in Hong Kong after their legacy. It's called FLM and it's still popular and running to this very day. Quite often we will play their songs, especially FLM, in their honour. When post-covid travel opens up more easily, anyone reading this, you are welcome to come visit us here in HK and you can find me there on the decks. @@tillymalone5322 Bear in mind that supply and demand is a LARGE factor. Loads of people complain about the press and still go out and buy the magazines/newspapers, they still watch their programmes and videos. A lot of celebs are complicit in this and choose to act up in public knowing that a camera is on them.
Whilst what the press do isn't always right a lot of people that complain about them are the same ones that complain about the demise of brick and mortar stores yet go out and buy their goods on Amazon.
Same ones that moan about the diminishing postal service but choose to send an email instead of a letter.

This was a really interesting look at an act that we all loved back in the 80's. Mel and Kim had such passion and energy in every performance it was truly infectious. Such a tragedy that Mel passed away so young; absolutely heartbreaking but their wonderful music will live forever.

They were so beautiful, bubble and full of fu, like a ray of sunshine. I wish Kim well, love her Single Don't worry, still play it now a days too :D
