Man this upgrade kit makes the SS 86 Grimlock even more of a better figure than it already was, btw I so adore the added upgraded arms as I feel we were definitely messing some more expressiveness in the dino mode.
Dna design is my favorite for upgrade kits! I literally purchase all of their kits. Their colors always match and their plastic is always good quality. Keep the reviews coming.
Definitely going to try and get this. SS86 Grimlock is a good figure on his own, wheelie is the complete opposite, but this upgrade fixes nearly everything. Get this, and a hand upgrade kit, and you have a nearly perfect figure.
Nice upgrade kit for Grimlock. I have my eyes on this one. Probably no surprise that my favorite things about this kit are the sword and the transformable Wheelie. Now I just wonder if DNA Design is gonna make one for Slag/Slug, and if so, what would be included?
The detail under the neck is bizarre, clearly shows a plan for a future version with a clear neck... With regards to the forearm fillers... I wonder if the screw is too tight meaning it can't sit flush and tab in properly? Wheelie is a HUGE improvement (but the swapping him for a sword in the original set would have been a huge improvement) and is a decent enough stand alone bot in his own right!
If you look at the promo sale images and on the box he has a clear plastic neck so it probably was intended to have it but probably either do to longevity/durability or save some money on using the same plastic sprue as other parts it was changed to the painted gold so the under detail was probably made before the switch
The teeth and sword are the real selling point with this kit. The transparent neck isn't really a focus, and though the feet fillers are nice they aren't necessary (unless he's on his back 🤣). The forearm covers were an attempt at what should be standard for Hasbro, but they don't get the job done 100%. Kudos for that Wheelie figure though. Maybe we'll be seeing DNA expand into other add-ons and accessories along that vein.
I got this as well. The only ones I'm going to keep from this set is: ✓ Grimlock's Teeth/Dentures ✓ Gap Fillers ✓ Screw Hole Covers ✓ The Sword I won't be keeping: ✓ Wheelie (TR Mold still looks best for me, I have the LG and that looks good both in bot and alt mode), the one this upgrade kit's alt mode is just laughable. ✓ That Clear Neck piece, it's just so ugly for me. 🤮 ✓ Grimlock's Arms. Meh.
The fact we are getting the core class in the Studio series and how DNA design made a entirely new wheelie means hasbro could remake wheelie for the core class next year
I just received my upgrade kit. I can also confirm the cover for the right arm doesnt tab in the same way yours does. It seems like its just a fit issue sadly. I still think it looks good.
I believe Hasbro cuts so many corners these days BECAUSE 3rd Party companies like DNA will step-up and "fill the gaps", (quite literally, in many cases). As fans and collectors, we can either accept it, or do something else. I believe this economic model is here to stay. But with that said, this is a really good upgrade. Nonnef Productions also has a really good upgrade kit for SS-86 Grimlock. That's what I used on mine, but I may get this just for the dino arms and Wheelie.
Yeah that is weird they would bother with sculptured detailed piece inside the neck only to cover it with an opaque neck piece you can't see through. Obviously they intended it to be transparent in the first place.
I got the same problem with that same arm cover! One side works fine while the other one just does not want to close. I filed it a little and it closes fine now but still can’t snap shut.
I have a decision to make and I need some help. I can only get one which one do I take? I like both equally. The options are: Studio Series 71 Deluxe Dino Or WFC-K24 Deluxe Wheeljack They’re both the exact same price Thanks in advance
This just might be a must have..has anyone seen a good upgrade kit for Gnaw? Specifically, covering up the obvious split between his front and back in robot mode?
Not a fan of the clear neck. I'm not sure why ppl haven't removed the dark shade chest shield cover and leave it off and not even bother with a clear one, which you can get in that other upgrade kit. Is there a way to take the head off the non transformerable Wheelie and place it on this one?
Honestly, there isn't a lot in this kit that I consider necessary. The feet fillers seem kind of pointless since those spaces are never seen. The forearm covers are a great idea but the execution didn't hit the mark. You can also get decent 3D printed swords on ebay. As for Wheelie, Hasbro had a release of him a couple of years ago that I thought was far better. I'm not trying to bag on this set, I think DNA has done some great things. I love, love, love their Scorpinok kits. But this? Nah.
you can buy the kit from BBTS for $47.99 with $4 shipping, so i'tll be like $10 less than from Showz with less shipping time..just it's not in stock at BBTS yet.
@@bt1234567892010 thanks for the info. I paid $50 AUD ($35 USD) reduced from $100 for a big catalogue sale. And I normally pay extra for shipping to Australia but bundled with another purchase it's not a biggie. But yeah, it's still more than I'd pay.
I don't know man... This kit improves SS86 Grimlock, but at $65 it's $12 more expensive than entire figure with "accessory" Wheelie... To make things worse, for $65 shipped you can actually get XTB Ollie which is a proper transforming figure, if that's what you're after, or you can get a new MP Grimlock for around $80-100 on second hand market, so investing $65 into this figure makes no sense on a lot of different levels. Besides, kit should certainly include replacement chest cover, and why did they used black screws for forearm fillers (which don't even work good), when original screws are not black? For that price, this kid should be PERFECT, and there is no room for such issues... :D What pisses me off is that most of this kit shouldn't even be necessary if Hasbro did their job properly... They made a great figure for OK price and then screwed up (literally in a way :D ) big time just so they could save what probably cost them 1-2 cents per figure... Feet gaps are fine as they are not visible and I was annoyed by the holes in forearms, although that's something we learn to accept with CHUG line (even if we shouldn't), but I was absolutely pissed off with lack of front teeth and with those fugly screw holes in dino head? Come on Hasbro, that's just plain laziness. They showed us they can at least do the head properly on PotP Grimlock, even if they've done everything else wrong there :)
The only thing that make this actually worth it is the articulated dino hands and wheelie but he doesn't role suspect. There are other upgrade kits out there that are actually better in my opinion.
Hasbro didn't "lack behind' on the inclusion of a sword. The Dinobots don't have swords (aside from Snarl) on the cartoon and in the movie. Do I like them having swords? Yes. But it's an artifact of other media, not the Sunbow cartoons.
To explain why Hasbro didn’t give Grim his sword: Studio Series is trying to capture the movie appearance and in the 86 movie Grim was primarily in Dino mode and never drew his sword opting to use his blaster for the silver screen. So Hasbro didn’t see it necessary to add a sword when it wasn’t used in the source material. I too would’ve loved a sword so this kit is definitely in my list!
Man this upgrade kit makes the SS 86 Grimlock even more of a better figure than it already was, btw I so adore the added upgraded arms as I feel we were definitely messing some more expressiveness in the dino mode.
I agree
I'd say grimlock with these upgrades Is on a masterpiece level now
These Studio Series and WFC figures are making Master Piece obsolete.
@@39Hundredfr
Masterpiece price as well lol
Wheelie is not their first fully transformable figure, that would be Susano which is an MP scaled Bludgeon, which was then repainted into Banzaitron
Dna design is my favorite for upgrade kits! I literally purchase all of their kits. Their colors always match and their plastic is always good quality. Keep the reviews coming.
I already preorder it last week, and thanks to the review I will stick with it, thanks
Definitely going to try and get this. SS86 Grimlock is a good figure on his own, wheelie is the complete opposite, but this upgrade fixes nearly everything. Get this, and a hand upgrade kit, and you have a nearly perfect figure.

Maybe a brand new figure for Daniel Witwicky, similar to their Wheelie? Hopefully one with a Daniel head/shoulder sculpts covered by a clear dome.
That's brilliant! Thanks for sharing! That clear yellow looks real nice.
Interesting. I didnt expect a upgrade kit review. Very awesome though
The detail under the neck is bizarre, clearly shows a plan for a future version with a clear neck... With regards to the forearm fillers... I wonder if the screw is too tight meaning it can't sit flush and tab in properly?

DNA design have actually done transforming figures before, they did a Bludgeon once, not sure if they’ve done anything else
a recolor of their bludgeon aswell
Awesome review Prime vs Prime!!!
The teeth and sword are the real selling point with this kit. The transparent neck isn't really a focus, and though the feet fillers are nice they aren't necessary (unless he's on his back 🤣). You could spray paint that inner neck detail metallic silver to make it look even better.
This is the first time I've ever wanted to buy a figure just so I can buy the upgrade kit for it
The way you slapped wheelie was hilarious
Grimlocks old promo pics showed his neck being clear plastic but mustve changed it last minute so that must be why his inner necks detailed
the fact that this company gave an ACTUAL transformable wheelie. which was just an accessory before is insane
Makes you think with that detailed neck piece if this mold will get a G1 toy repaint some time in the future.
It's also possible they had originally intended for it to be transparent, but had to change later.
You gotta admit, the fact that Hasbro even detailed inside the neck is amazing.
Not their first transformable figure, they made a MP-scale Bludgeon (Susanoo / Arashi).
DNA design did a masterpiece scale Bludgeon called "Susanoo". Very cool figure
I got this as well. The only ones I'm going to keep from this set is:
✓ Grimlock's Teeth/Dentures
✓ Gap Fillers
✓ Screw Hole Covers
✓ The Sword
I won't be keeping:

✓ That Clear Neck piece, it's just so ugly for me. 🤮
✓ Grimlock's Arms. Meh.
If the neck was chromed and then had a shiny clear cover instead, it would look right.
The fact we are getting the core class in the Studio series and how DNA design made a entirely new wheelie means hasbro could remake wheelie for the core class next year
Dude grimlock is awesome character I love it
The kit costs more than the damn figure! Holy crap.
one thing i wish this kit came with was a clear version of that glass piece for the chest
Just take it off by removing screws from the back
Man wheelie looks better than the one we get with the 86 grimlock
$64.99 for some parts? This kit costs more than the figure. Pass.
Why toy hit my nose.....with sheer AWESOMENESS!?!?!?!
There we go! He said the thing!
We need a Masterpiece G1 Wheelie in the works. Come on, TakaraTomy! Get to work on it!
PrimeVsPrime: there’s no reason to get that rumored core class Wheelie.
Also PrimeVsPrime: *will totally get it anyway
I just received my upgrade kit. I can also confirm the cover for the right arm doesnt tab in the same way yours does. It seems like its just a fit issue sadly. I still think it looks good.
my right arm works fine
Childhood nostalgia.
The music was good when you put th kit together. You always pick good music for that stuff.
For the arm panels thicken the tab either with glue or squeezing with pliers if you sand down the slot it’ll have even less grab
Lol Wheely is not the first transforming product from DNA. Their first product (transforming and as a whole) was Susano or MP Bludgeon
Love this DNA kit for Grimlock
The first full-fledged figure DNA design made was susanoo, a mp bludgeon
Awesome review!!!
I love the new wheelie
Personally would have preferred a red/orange sword.
_"Friend find- look behind!"_
_"You go wrong way- you fool, I say!"_
DNA design created the masterpiece scale susano
Nice upgrade. I don't need the clear plastic but the rest is very nice.
Transformers is one of those things that it purely display and playability to me, so I don’t care what sort of mods I end up making
So glad i ordered mine.

This is what we all wanted
those are some good upgrades
That is one rough-looking Wheelie. Think I'll still hold out for the Core Class.
Yeah that is weird they would bother with sculptured detailed piece inside the neck only to cover it with an opaque neck piece you can't see through. Obviously they intended it to be transparent in the first place.
This just me, I would have liked to see Grimlock's tail extended with an upgrade kit.
I’m definitely getting this
$64.99 and a month wait lol. I think it looks fine the way it is.
I got the same problem with that same arm cover! One side works fine while the other one just does not want to close. I filed it a little and it closes fine now but still can’t snap shut.
There’s a upgrade kit to replace that panel on grimlock’s robot mode chest with a clear one.
Would like to see what DNA could do with Daniel from ss86 slag.
I have a decision to make and I need some help. I can only get one which one do I take? I like both equally. The options are:
Studio Series 71 Deluxe Dino

This set is streets ahead
so cool . getting this
This just might be a must have..has anyone seen a good upgrade kit for Gnaw? Specifically, covering up the obvious split between his front and back in robot mode?
awesome toy dude
My sets on the way. Would you reccamend gluing the foot fillers in? Or do they stay in good enough?
Hasbro prepared the neck for "premium finish" repack
thats not what a repack means
and its likely this was intended to have a clear neck but they couldnt get the extra spru made
Wow that's amazing man
Amazing video watching this video made my day
Not a fan of the clear neck. I'm not sure why ppl haven't removed the dark shade chest shield cover and leave it off and not even bother with a clear one, which you can get in that other upgrade kit.
Is there a way to take the head off the non transformerable Wheelie and place it on this one?
I so love it great kit
Do I have to take the head apart to put the teeth in ?
I'll leave the neck the way it is and change everything else. My set is on it's way to me.

I kinda want this just for the upgrade Wheelie alone
Awesome
Other upgrade for ss 86 grimlock is his chest, neck, acessories too
Question, does Hasbro have the legal rights to purchase other peoples designs of their characters?
Quick Question did you end up fixing the arm filler issue?
Which bit was the icing? Seems like there was more icing than cake . . .
The cost, plus shipping to Canada is a bit much. Looks really nice.
Is it me or is the background music saying "can the shoe come off"
I don’t remember gridlock actually having his sword in the g1 show
Amazing
This set looks really great but that price... I paid less for Grimlock. I already have the Gigapower for that upper price range.
you can buy the kit from BBTS for $47.99 with $4 shipping, so i'tll be like $10 less than from Showz with less shipping time..just it's not in stock at BBTS yet.

molds are very expensive to make and plastic is expensive
thats why
Can the new wheelie ride grimlock though?
YES!
I see Wheelie has some hollowness. Maybe an Upgrade kit from Perfect effect?
The Grimlock in stock at bigbadtoystore already has a clear yellow neck tho?
I want this figure so bad
The only thing that make this actually worth it is the articulated dino hands and wheelie but he doesn't role suspect. There are other upgrade kits out there that are actually better in my opinion.
Do you guys think the hand covers and feet covers might eventually cause to break some plastics particularly in the arms and feet area?
The first time thus company made a complete Transformable robot
Ironic that they sell gap fillers and they made Wheelie with arm gaps from arm pit to wrist and leg gaps from hip to ankle.
Those leg fillers in Dino mode are screwed too tight and why they won't tab in right
Take my money!
im thinking of getting it but im not putting the neck peice on
$65 dollars. It's more than the figure itself.
It's 49.99 on Tf source.
Grimlock''s eyes weren't red. They were always blue in the cartoon. You're thinking of the toy.
Why doesn't this kit address the overly dark chest piece?
Hasbro didn't "lack behind' on the inclusion of a sword. The Dinobots don't have swords (aside from Snarl) on the cartoon and in the movie. Do I like them having swords? Yes. But it's an artifact of other media, not the Sunbow cartoons.
Does Wheelie still peg into the sitting posts on Grimlock?
