So my husband came home and saw the blanket on the computer screen and said with a big smile “You’re making me a blanket!” Uuhhhh...... yes of course dear......
That's fab Chris, My uncle Jimmy did crochet most of his life he and my mother were taught by their mother and their auntie. He made blankets in this stitch for all his friends, they both would have loved all the now yarns we have today.
I'm actually doing a baby blanket using the waffle stitch..although i had done 6 rows i took it out as i thought it didn't look right with a 5 mm hook so was going to start it with a 4mm tomorrow..but now i think I'm going to use this stitch..still using the 4mm..the baby is a boy so it'll be his first 'man blankie' 😆🇬🇧💖👍
You are fantastic! I am a man and a beginner and I find your instructions so clear and easy to follow! I am making this blanket and I love it! Thank you!!
Just a suggestion: If a man feels funny about having a blanket made for him, it can always be called a "Car Blanket" and stored in the boot or back seat etc, for those really long trips or on cold days for passengers and/or caravan'ing.
Perfect timing! My husband's birthday is coming up, and, of course, so is Christmas. I've been hunting around for the perfect stitch for a blanket in his team's main color. This is awesome. Thank you.
I was making my husband a moss stitch blanket and realized my toes poked through when I ready to make the border….I was so upset about frogging it all but this tutorial inspired me again! ❤️ thank you!!!
I made this after watching your video but I made it for myself and I’m a woman. I used a bulky that had a fuzzy look. I did it in odd white, dusty pink, and a deep rose. It’s soooo pretty and looks great on my off white quilt in the bedroom. Love it and so easy
I am going to make my son in law a blanket with this stitch. I have used this stitch making slippers. Thank you for the inspiration. It is true, there are not many manly stitches.
You are absolutely adorable. 🥺 I’ve been looking for a pick me up project that doesn’t require much thinking to help cheer me up and allow me to escape for a bit. I’ve been crocheting for years now, but sometimes having a simpler pattern/project sometimes is just…lovely. Needed. And coincidentally, Ive recently purchased a few large skeins (on super sale!!) that would make a lovely “man blanket”. I started to make my fiancé a cardigan with them and even though it was my own pattern that I was just kind of swingin’, it still felt exhausting. Then I came across this and it made me so happy. It’s perfect. Thank you 🤍
Thank you so much, Mel. Yes I agree sometimes simple and easy is a must, something we don't have to think about too much and can just crochet. I did this in variegated very bright red heart stripes for my Neace and it came out fab
I love what you made here. I have been struggling trying to find a stitch that looked masculine yet visually interesting and not boring… It was proving difficult and trying to pick a colour and texture of yarn, I was waffling back-and-forth on what to select. I just watch this video and I love everything you did from the type of yarn to the stitch and the color. I’m going to make this for my newly discovered brother I found through an ancestral dna website. Thank you! This was a very well done video you are quite easy to follow
Most of my throws go to my husband. Even the really ugly ones. He loves them all. I’m just a beginner I’ve been at this for a year or so now. I’ve made all my kids and grand kids a throw. I’m starting over on my list. I’m trying to learn new stitches. I find this very relaxing but a bit frustrating too.
This is GORGEOUS ! I have got to try this! My hubs is a fisherman and this would make a great blanket to keep him warm offshore and the envy of everyone and I will probably have to make oodles more. Wowza! I love it so much! Thank you for doing this !!!
I was going to suggest selling them to the jealous lot of them. I sell face balm and beard oil to my husband’s work crew, they work out in the biting cold as well.
Hi, I'm making about a 12" sample of this stitch and love it. I showed it to my husband and he really likes it - which he usually thinks what I make looks like something my mom would have made :D. So I will be buying yarn (in the US) to make a "Man Blanket" for either our living room or our enclosed porch room. Thanks for creating and sharing this stitch.
It's an old stitch and has quite a few names, rice stitch, seed stitch long rice stitch, tight weave, mini basket weave, and a few others depending where and which country you live in. Man blanket just a bit of fun,
Thank you so much for this! I have made two gorgeous 'man blankets', one for my sister and one for myself, and they are both well loved! By the way, I didn't use dark yarn only. This pattern looks great in bright stripes as well!
Hi 👋 Alison. I've already made a blanket for my 10 year old grandson using this tutorial. This stitch is crazy easy and works up beautifully. It's really warm too. Now I'm back to make one for myself. LoL. Happy 😁 New Year 🎉🥳
Love the pattern and your accent. My grandparents emigrated to the US back in the 1920’s. I loved them so much and miss them incredibly. Thank you for this pattern.
You have made very clear and easy to follow video. I’ve been looking for a patter to make a lap blanket for a male friend. I’ll be making this one and most likely a scarf too. Thank you so very much.
Loved pattern so much i made 3! One for each of my son's xmas, i later told them i would be able to keep them warm and cuddle them from afar when i'm no longer on this little rock we call home, they absaloutley loved them Thank you so much for sharing ❤
I love this! It's what I've been looking for 😉 I have made afghans for my grandson in the zigzag/ripple and shells and a few other designs. But he wants one with no "holes". Yay! Thank you for sharing.
I have made a beautiful blanket for my bed using this pattern. I love watching your tutorials, you are an excellent teacher. I want to thank you! And I wish I could show you my work😊
Miss Russell, I was looking for a new/different stitch for some upcoming projects and saw your video. My Grandmother was English (and my Grandfather was a Scotsman), and taught me to crochet. Hello, Allison, from the USA!!!! Just wanted to say "Hello!" and thank you for this pattern !! I have looked for six years --no kidding--for a blanket pattern to make for my husband!! And, finally!! There's Allison and her awesome patterns!! I have NEVER immediately started a project after watching a video or looking at a post---until yesterday. Now, I'm crocheting a lovely blanket!! 💙💚💛💜🌻🌼🌻🌼🌷🌹🌷🌹. Thanks again, Allison!! I'm a new fan!! Can't wait to try more of your patterns!! Stay safe and well and happy!! 🌈🍀🌺🌸
Hello again, Alison! I was thinking about the Post Stitches used in the Man Blanket, and realized, with a giggle, that if the Front & Back Post Stitches weren't staggered, the blanket would be crocheted ribbing!! Lol lol. It would be very pretty with its texture, but, boy would it be stretchy!! Lol lol Thoroughly enjoying creating the Man Blanket! Will probably make a scarf for myself using the same stitch pattern!! Thanks again!! Have a great week!! 🤓😊
Thank you so much for not going too fast. I am a beginner and I found this great to follow. I have 2 boys and will try something for them using this stitch 👍🏽

Thankyou for this fantastic tutorial. With 5 sons, grandpa, husband and nephews I have not one female to crochet for.. at last I can make them something manly
I just love your Scottish accent. You are definitely right about not having more “Man Blankets” patterns. I mean, everyone has at least one man in their lives that deserves a beautiful, or shall I say handsome, blanket. This blanket is very easy to do & I love the way it’s turning out for me. It’s for my son for a Christmas gift.
I'm so happy you did this now I can make for my husband this blanket. He always play games when he's off at weekends and this blanket will be perfect. Thank you so much ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🦴🦴
Clever stitch. I love the results. I think it’s a very good stitch for anything for a man or a boy with appropriate colors. Most of the stitches I’ve use have been too pretty for a man/boy project.
I love this stitch... there’s this tweed yarn I have been looking at buying and this blanket pattern provides the perfect texture - thanks from South Africa
Such a great idea - a man blanket :) I will be ordering my wool tomorrow so I can make a scarf for my Son! And your video is lovely and clear on the black background too! Thank you Alison x Love Angela, xx
Amen to the man blanket! I'm making blankets for Christmas for my two adult sons and other than cabled, everything tends to be feminine. Thank you for posting this.
This is a Double crochet if you in in the USA or another country. There is NO stitch count.
I could sit and listen to you talk for hours! I love your accent! Where are you from?
How many.chains did you do for this blanket? I’m looking to do about the same size
How many chains did you do?

so did my son hahahah
I am a man and I am in fact making a blanket using this stitch.

Brilliant tutorial - many thanks!! I’m a guy down here in Wales, I crochet and am definitely making this!!

Thank you, guys, for posting! I have 2 sons (5 and 8 years old), and I am hoping that me teaching them crochet helps them with their ADHD/focusing.

Great idea, Margaret
Awesome
I’ve made blankets for all the men in my family, I call them a Hug Rug, they love it, they wrap up in it when thy want to relax
great name for it
I'm confused as to why someone would feel funny about having a blanket made for them. Every person I know, male and female, use blankets.
It looks like a basket weave. This is just what my husband needs for theses cold winter’s nights watching tv.
basket weave is done with the same stitches, Hazel. I use this a lot i did my back to front blanket in this stitch too.
Perfect timing! My husband's birthday is coming up, and, of course, so is Christmas. I've been hunting around for the perfect stitch for a blanket in his team's main color. This is awesome. Thank you.
I’ve made lots of afghans using this stitch-crocheting one now. It’s one of my top favorite patterns!
Wonderful! I love it its a great texture too I have made lots with this stitch.
I’m itching to try one. Yarn pile sorted ....
Beautiful! All the men will be happy now, Alison! ♥️
I made this blanket for my 39-year-old son out of camouflage yarn and he absolutely loved it!
