  • A Case for Paul Temple (8 Episodes)
    ===================================
    From 1938 to 1968, Francis Durbridge's incomparably suave amateur detective Paul Temple and his glamorous wife Steve solved case after baffling case in one of BBC radio's most popular series. Sadly, only half of Temple's adventures survive in the archives.
    In 2006 BBC Radio 4 brought one of the lost serials back to life with Crawford Logan and Gerda Stevenson as Paul and Steve. Using the original scripts and incidental music, and recorded using vintage microphones and sound effects, the production of 'Paul Temple and the Sullivan Mystery' aimed to sound as much as possible like the 1947 original might have done if its recording had survived. The serial proved so popular that it was soon followed with equal success by two more revivals, 'Paul Temple and the Madison Mystery' and 'Paul Temple and Steve'.
    Now, from 1946, it's the turn of 'A Case for Paul Temple', in which Paul and Steve brave great danger to reveal the identity of the mysterious West End drug dealer known only as 'Valentine'.
    Francis Durbridge, the creator of Paul Temple, was born in Hull in 1912 and died in 1998. He one of the most successful novelists, playwrights and scriptwriters of his day.

    I always wished they had carried on producing Paul Temple's stories on from Francis Durbridge's works and the blueprint he set and gone in a far more 'grittier' direction. Paul Temple 'By all Means'. Full of bonking and graphic violence.

    Great story but I think the recordings are incomplete. Story jumped forward a couple of times like some scenes were missing.

    Mrs T: Who's Snooker Riley darling?
    Mr T: Why he's the guy I get us that rather splendid spliff from sweetheart.
    Mr T: Incidentally darling, when we meet him later at his houseboat, he's sure to refer to me by the name " Paul Temple Balls.
    Mrs T: I say! What the Dickens for Darling? Is it a reference to your unswerving nerves whilst working a case?
    Mr T: It's all pretty straightforward Steve. Lebanese Temple Ball,what!
    Both chuckle😂😂

    My whole problem these re records suffer from is that gerda Stevenson was miscast as Steve as was the actor playing paul temple.

      Far better than Peter Coke and Marjorie Westbury. Much more believable

      @iainbradley2847 I prefer peter coke and Marjorie Westbury. Perhaps that's why i feel they've been mis cast. The actor playing paul Temple and Steve just don't sound right.. and the supporting players dont sound like they are happy to be there either. They're just not very good. Obviously been miss directed. Patrick Rayner wasn't very good at the radio sherlock holmes he directed either.
