    • @prushimush
      @prushimush 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think they get many people in from the eastern NY/NJ/PA area. It's pretty far from Jersey, you'd think it's "close" being in PA but it's a 6-7 hour drive.

    What can save Erie, Pa is for the folks there to change their attitude about Erie and make a slow, steady improvement to the place. Be kind to each other.

    I was born in Erie in 1950 and it proved to be to me "A Town Without Pity". My father was killed in an explosion at Lovells Manufacturing in 1957 when I was six and life went south for me and my younger sister, as my mother became an alcoholic and created hell for us. My sister couldn't deal with the horrid memories and became an alcoholic herself but was denied the alcohol by her piece of crap husband and started drinking Listerine which destroyed her liver and kidneys. She couldn't heal after five bypass surgery and died. Her husband already had a replacement girlfriend when she became ill. A lot of bad memories linger there for me, a lot of ghosts. My wife and I just celebrated our 44th Anniversary here in North Carolina which God has blessed. We have two beautiful, successful daughters with two beautiful, healthy, intelligent grandchildren and God has blessed us all! I only return to Erie once a year so my wife can visit her sister and I visit one of my best friends there.

      John Bojack that’s horrible and my heart goes out to you but has nothing to do with the town of Erie . That could have all happened in any town

    • @snakebait5118
      @snakebait5118 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      e2sguy yes, I agree, but for me it's difficult returning as there are too many ghosts. You'd think I'd be over it in my old age but it's haunting. My old neighborhood is rotting. So many houses are literally rotting, some have been torn down. The house I lived in is nonexistent, it's an empty lot. It's also sad to see the city go down the drain as it was a busy industrial town. Now it's been selected to be a dump station for muslim immigrants by the previous administration. Industry continues to leave. The coup de grace is the moving of the G.E. plant to Texas. But it's all good, my wife and I are happy in our beautiful little house in North Carolina, a state we fell in love with 26 years ago and stayed. Thank you for being concerned! Life is good! But I really miss the fishing up there!

    • @e2sguy
      @e2sguy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      John Bojack you have made a lot of good points about Erie and it’s all true . Jobs left and immigrants flooded in . I own investment property in Erie myself but live an hour away in a much nicer area .May the Lord bless your family and it’s my prayer you can heal from the struggles you faced and find inner peace.

    • @snakebait5118

      e2sguy thanks brother! God has blessed me tremendously! My wife of 44 years is a gift from God! Our daughters are successful who married two great guys. Our two grandchildren have high aspirations, our grandson has been drag racing since he was 16, he'll be 19 in a couple of days. Our granddaughter is an outstanding artist turned 16 a couple of months ago. God has been good! The wounds have healed but the scars remain. I could write a book about the nightmare my sister and I endured, but much of it would be hard to believe. I'm sure it could've been worse, but God has carried me through and has given me wisdom. I have learned much about life through my experiences. Thanks for your prayers brother!

    Erie's one of the easiest "large" towns to get around in. Not much traffic & the streets are numbered & laid out like a checkerboard. Never had a problem in Erie. Buffalo NY's downtown is confusing for out of towners w many 1 way streets & also the main streets are laid out like the spokes of a wheel....

    It is so sad to think that 30-50 years ago these places were filled with happy families just trying to make an honest living and do right by their families. I can only imagine the pride a man felt to buy a house and have a wife and kids to love and take care of in such a nice place.

The area seemed quiet and economically depressed. I found the whole city to be rather odd. They do have Tim Hortons' coffee though. "Dump" is a little excessive, it's not like Camden or Chester or the shit past K&A in Philly. There was definitely a Great Lakes feel to it though, it felt nothing like eastern PA or Jersey. Erie, PA looks like Disneyland compared to where I grew up. Keep them coming, the rest of America should see it form themselves and not just assume what it is really like.

    • @sfcrmsa
      @sfcrmsa 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hurricane Jones. Right on. I know that area very well. I grew up on 50th Street and Haverford AVE, 3 blocks North of Market. Then we moved to 46th and Walnut street. 44th and Market was rough because of the "Projects". I would have to get off the "EL" at 46th street to get home with a little peep in my step if I was by myself until I got closer to my "Block". If you got caught wandering around looking stupid or lost for two long, you were liable to lose your chump change by a couple of residents from the 'Projects". I am not going to live back in that neighborhood, never again.

    • @soulCracka1
      @soulCracka1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marco Anaya I know exactly what you mean, man. 46th is where I would catch the EL to go to work at 8pm. It was even sketchy at that relatively early hour.
      Those high rise projects have been there since I can remember and I'm 39. I grew up in Darby so I'm used to the hood but I don't plan on moving back to Philly anytime soon.
      I'm in a nice suburban town in Delaware County and it's like Beverly Hills compared to where I lived in West and South Philly😁

    I grew up in the area we came here from Germany in 1950 I found it when I got older and learned about politics my stepfather was a politician that the town was extremely corrupt when you have a mayor that last for I don't even remember 78 terms and you have the same police chief for the same amount of time the corruption from a certain ethnic group of people was incredible they stole all the money from the town they denied manufacturing to come in they didn't want anything interfering with their little games that they played on the community we lost a huge huge Possibility to bring Latin industries Wanted to build a huge shipbuilding plant because of the access to the lake the politicians didn't want any part of it because they would lose their control over being able to steal money from the industries that's why all the steel Mills are gone that's why all the small businesses are gone.. The state of Pennsylvania is generally a lost cause for industry.. They were sold out years ago and it's never come back and it never will come back it's a shame because Erie was a great great town in the fifties sixties into the mid seventies then it went to hell..
