Yeah, the Hill District is by no means great but they've definitely cleared a lot of the really decayed pre-WWII housing in recent years. On the one hand the old buildings sort of gave the place personality, but at the same time it was a neighborhood in terminal decline since the '60s well past saving in any meaningful way. Anywhere and everywhere my man, these ones i have never been on. All through out the city, its very hilly here in pgh. The steps are great but can be a bad thing too if ya know what i mean.
I do ! The steps were a way of extending and connecting streets where actually creating drivable streets would be impossible... Imagine extremely angled or vertical streets... South 18th. Street from Carson Street in Southside to Brownsville Road in Mt.Oliver is an awe inspiring road and one that commands one's full attention while driving it... And there are two of those staircases on it... I also lived in Brentwood, a suburb of Pittsburgh, and there were two such "staircase" streets because of the steepness of the hills there...
I go to the Burgh at least once a month, you guys should be proud of your beautiful city. It didnt get completely destroyed by the crack epidemic, Mt.Washington is beautiful, Point state park, the neighborhoods still have mom and pop stores. Penn ave in Garfield is very artsy. Nice city.
Pittsburgh is actually a really safe and nice city nowadays. The only bad area was the last part of the vid when you went last PPG paints arena, and that area isn’t even that bad anymore

I grew up in The Run. Very isolated. Home of Big Jim's and the golden domed church viewed when you're heading out of town to the Squirrel Hill tunnels.
Those are the nice areas?! Home is where we grew up, but I gotta tell ya we live on 5 acres, 2 story, 3,200 sq ft, full length deck, 3 car garage, 30X40 metal storage building. I'm watching this video and thinking if I lived there, I'd be leaving fast.
@@SModeTheking actual downtown Pittsburgh is pretty boring, yeah. Everything closes at 5 and it's mostly corporate offices. But come on over to the southside, it's less than a mile away, that's where all the nightlife is.

Don’t mess with them and they won’t mess with you.
FeelingGroovy I live in nearby Youngstown. Pittsburgh is old and it is really hard to tell if you are in a hood or a suburban type environment, with in the lower crest as they call it, but the ghetto parts of Pittsburgh make Cleveland’s seem alright. The home wood neighborhood and north Braddock are horrible. As well as parts of the north and south side, it is the hilliest city in America. You do not want to get stuck in a snowstorm in the wrong neighborhood trying to drive up a road.
Actually, there are familes who have lived here for generations and the houses were passed down as well as the concepts of keeping up one's house and property... That being said, there are parts of Pittsburgh that rival the worst of Detroit or any other "hoods" that Charlie has driven through...
It is most definitely not the hilliest city in america. Ever heard of the much higher mountains (and cities in them) in places throughout New England or the Rocky Mountains?
This is known to be one of Americas most dramatically improved cities. Used to be so industrial and philthy that the streetlights were on during the day because the air was so dirty.
Zorian Pittsburgh is triangular Grid in the city proper but the rivers and the steep valleys around it basically dictated how it’s laid out. Getting around is super easy once you learn the main arteries in and out of town... living north and east of the city is nicer than living south or west since that is the tunnel traffic and its horrible dealing with that. The city is very very old though, and definitely has the winding tight streets within the city neighborhoods you see in other older NE cities like Boston and such. There are some amazingly weird roads here for sure. I love taking out of Towners I’m friends with on Rialto Street... that’s some white knuckle hill driving for folks from flat areas. Where this gentleman was driving around wasn’t particularly “bad” if that’s the goal of the videos. But our bad areas also tend not to compare to bad parts of cities like Philly or NYC or DC... I’ve been to all those places and there are far worse there than ours. No comparison.
@@monkeywrangler5200: Well thanks for that info. You'll be happy to note that NYC has no bad areas any more. Everything has been gentrified and built up. It's not the NYC of the 70's anymore.
Zorian You’re welcome. When I have to travel to NYC I take the train from here. It’s a kind of nice long ride. I haven’t been there for a few years now but when I was there last the doorman was telling me where NOT to go haha. I think everyone has their bad areas... we do too they’re just not what I’ve seen in these other cities. Like the Southside of Chicago has some real rough areas and stuff. I know the doorman told me to avoid queens haha, and I did, but I didn’t have any reason to leave Manhattan near Times Square really though either and I only used the subway sparingly.
@@monkeywrangler5200I implore you to explore NYC BEYOND Times (Tourist Trap) Square the next time you got there. If you listen to the Doormen, you will get stuck in that Twilight Zone and never see New York for the greatest city in the world that it is. There are so many wonderful neighborhoods to explore and the Subway makes you look more like a New Yorker than a Tourist. Go downtown and visit the World Trade Center and Memorial. Go to Battery Park or the new Hudson Yards Residential Complex and walk the Pineapple. I don't navigate Queens too well but it is such a richly diverse community of Korean and Indian cultures and you may find some of the most exotic and tastiest food there. City Island is known for it's Seafood. Roosevelt Island, Harlem, Hells Kitchen. And don't forget to go see Brooklyn. It's the new Bohemian Mecca. Plan your itinerary and travel well. There is nothing wrong with taking the Subway. It's the cheapest and quickest way to get around. And you won't look so much like a tourist unless you travel nervously lol. But like with any large city, vigilance is key. Stay present and not all hooked to technology. If you are aware of your surroundings you'll have a wonderful time. Just saying
Zorian Oh I’ve been around it some not just stuck on Manhattan haha. The doorman was pretty cool about letting you know what’s good and what wasn’t. He was the first to say look at TS once and leave it haha. I stuck with taxies when I’ve been there but time is always limited since it’s for work and not so much fun. I have a friend living in Jersey now after commuting coast to coast for a while and so I’m hoping to make it to NYC for a more enjoyment focused trip to see him. Pittsburgh is a more spread out experience if you’re ever here. And mass transit here is the only flaw I’ve found I bitch about incessantly haha. But there is a lot to explore.
One thing about pittsburgh its a really nice city in the day time but it changes at night. I live in a good area but theres always some shit going on at night.
I know these streets and highways. I've lived here all of my life. A traveling salesman on a local radio show one night once said that Pittsburgh women have the best looking legs. He attributed it to having to walk all of those hills.
If anyone goes to Pittsburgh and wants to take in the "postcard" view of the downtown area... You can go up to the Mt. Washington area and walk onto some of the observation platforms that are there. Also, riding the incline located across from the Station Square is a must and offers some excellent views ! You have to admire the engineering and ingenuity that went into designing and building it because it was, and still is, a way to get to and from work all of these past and current decades... The Belgian granite cobblestone roads were not only meant to be durable, but to provide traction for the horse drawn streetcars... And any salvaged cobblestones are highly prized !
Apparently there used to be a dozen but now we're down to 2. I lived in mt Washington my whole life snd I guess grew used to the view and incline and now I just get annoyed with tourists 🤷
interesting, Charlie, that in the beginning your clip shows the manicured lawns, the American flags, and the pretty porches of suburbia. Then, your trip takes us past the PPG Arena, perhaps indicating the cross-town requirements to get to the more depressed areas - isolated and neglected and swept away as city parts that the visitor center does not want you to see. Was this your intent? Pretty savvy if so, Charlie.
Strawberry is alright but i'd put my chips on kensington if we're gonna talk about nice philly neighborhoods on the real tho, depends on where u wanna live. delco is pretty nice and so are some of the suburbs around pittsburgh are damn nice but other than that pa is mostly just shit. stay away from reading.
fuck them steelers lol you trippin i lived there my whole life you paying high rent just to be a statistic in Kensington you paying low rent but you have to worry about dope fiends out in Pittsburgh its boring as shit but the rent there super cheap good place if you the homebody type
Lancaster pa any where in central pa just do reasearch the philadelphia area is nice i lived all over eastern pa lotta good places alk over pa to buy a house
Was it really cold out or something? It's like a damn ghost town, I didn't see one person for the first 4 minutes of the video. Seems like an okay place to me but I imagine it's different on a warm Friday night in July. Great video though, I never knew what Pittsburgh looked like, it's an interesting city.
I feel bad for lifelong residents who age and aren't mobile anymore. How do they get around in wheelchairs and climbing steep steps? This is a nice place with large homes like Detroit but these aren't abandoned. Beautiful job Charlie! Many Thanks and Happy New Year 2020 :)
Those power chairs make it around just fine. Regularly have to swerve to avoid a guy who rides his in the street Regularly in the steepest neighborhood in the city
norlens noel, But, if you grew up here, you would have learned how to do that... All of the main streets are always well taken care of... And I grew up during the era of using coal cinders for traction...
Dale McNamee ..I’m in south Texas, we usually get ice once a year and he interstate will shut down. I think it’s the parking on a hill with ice in front of your house they worries me but if they take care of the roads that sure makes it easier. But to locals it’s probably nothing to them
norlens noel, Pittsburgh gets freezing rain and it can paralyze the city, whether you live in a hilly street or not... In the "old days" ( I'm 64 ), the city and surrounding area used coal cinders and salt to battle the ice... And we homeowners did the same... But, people mostly avoided going anywhere until the temperatures got above freezing...
I'm still here, I'll be leaving today. I have a little more footage I'll be posting. I will be back though because I also want to get some night footage, and there are several areas here including some you mentioned I found out about that i want to get. Pittsburgh slum areas are actually some of the worst looking I have seen. I was here once before because I have cousins in the Crafton area, but I didn't see that much of the city.
What makes Pittsburgh unusual for a large city is the relatively low population of a certain ethnic group, about 23%. So you will have much less violence, crime and drug activity.
I live in pittsburgh, first half of the video was in lawrenceville, which is not good at all. Second half is mainly the hill district but not the hood part of it. Also y make these videos in the winter when no one is outside.
A majority of Eastern Allegheny County is *gone* - from downtown to the county line. Sure there are a few exceptions such as Squirrel Hill and Shadyside, but those are very much exceptions as opposed to a majority of the other areas. Also consider the proven stats that make up the City of Pittsburgh. The worst drinking water in the entire country. Drink it at your own peril, as it will effect your health. The rivers are a toxic sewer. By far the worst part about the City of Pittsburgh would be the public school system. Pittsburgh Public School System... So bad that even the teachers that work there would never send their children there. They either send them to private schools or to suburban schools. The test scores clearly state it all; many hundreds of points lower than any other bordering suburban school. A system so bad that even a majority of people that do graduate from the Pittsburgh Public Schools... Still need 2+ semesters of remedial education just to make it to the level of a 101 class at a community college. In other words - a majority of graduates from the Pittsburgh Public School System - are about at a junior high school level of education in the real world - if that. 2nd best part about Pittsburgh... I clearly give credit to all of the public servants and first responders that work there. But one also as to note - that the system is just plain broke. Even wonder why Amazon will NEVER locate much of anything to the region
I used to live in South Side in the late 80's. It was fine. Lots of bars. Solid neighbors. Fair bit of alcoholism, but otherwise pretty normal place. Now, there are some projects east of there that are pretty scary, as are the ones to the NW of the Pitt campus.
The video starts out in Lawrenceville, that's not a hood. That's a nightlife part of town where all races of people go to drink and eat on the weekend... Mostly white people forreal. Pittsburgh hoods are Homewood, North Side, Wilkinsburg, Northview Heights, Hill District, McKeesport, etc.
I was going to say the same. In fact, the neighborhood they went through over most of the first four minutes has homes that regularly sell for over $300k

to the Hill and act up. You'll get your wig split quick.
Grew up there..yeah I'm waiting..lol
I was looking like "theres nothing hood about this that looks peaceful"
What some clubs/bars to hit up
It's a typical old PA industrial town like Bethlehem, Allentown, Scranton, you name it. No more industry, but somehow people manage to hang on.
We have world class health care and hospitals. Major universities and colleges. High tech jobs and industry. Awesone sports teams and a rich cultural distict. Our history is rich and storied. We are proud of both our industrious past and our bright future. There is no holding on in Pittsburgh. We are thriving!
0:36 who knows about them city steps!
B girl he started in Lawrenceville
I used to climb the city steps on the Sah Side (Josephine up to Eleanor)everyday!
😂😂😂🤦🏿♂️
Thanks for making this video. I'm from Pittsburgh and its bring me back. I been away from Pittsburgh a while.
Anybody else live in Pittsburgh
Unfortunately yes 🤦
I from there. No longer living there.
Born and raised there. Left in '73.
Nice city.
Mt Washington from the overlook is beautiful. Mt Washington the neighborhood struggles. But its an extremely proud city
Pittsburgh is actually a really safe and nice city nowadays. The only bad area was the last part of the vid when you went last PPG paints arena, and that area isn’t even that bad anymore
Its safe until a felon with no job needs to make a withdrawl frm yo wallet
The hill district
Ive been waiting for this one!
Psalms 103:13
Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
"Turn left on Prospect" Kansas City Missouri has a main street that runs through the hood called Prospect
I heard Prospect in Kansas City it's real bad.
Kansas City is horrible.
Why don't you narrate as you drive? At least give some idea what actual "hoods" you're driving through?
00:40 Slippery and a long way down!
4:26 Meat Saws and Grinders?😮
13:34 The paving material👍🏻
Watched this two times in a row.
So much to see. Loved the old buildings.
Nice ride along.
Thank you.
Love your videos. Could you do more videos explaining about yourself, how you avoid any problems while driving through the hood or giving other tips for everyday people who are not familiar with life in hoods.
Trajan he's got the vibe ...why explain ? Smh
I was talking to a friend of mine and we both agreed Charlie is black 100%. not that it matters for anything except that a white person just could not drive around all those ghettos and walk into those stores at night...
rox89dgo we ever gonna make racial profiling dissappear in this raunchy country ?
I didn't mean anything bad by saying it.
rox89dgo th-cam.com/video/JJ3dk6KAvQM/w-d-xo.html
This is so good. I wish you had put an overlay on the video, naming each neighborhood.
This is not the hood of Pittsburgh try McKeesport, homewood, and Wilkinsburg. Lol you are in the nicer parts
And homestead
That's Lawrenceville. Butler St. at 57th. It's hipster central.
Alexa Viglio technically the term hoods mean plainly just neighborhoods...there ya go..
Honestly these people dont know what the hood is
@@mindreader4033 this Is where I fucking live
Thank you showing my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Anybody actually from here with both street smarts & intellect could tell you this list:
Eastside: Homewood, most of Wilkinsburg (borough), the East Hills Apts, Larimer, most of Lincoln-Lemington-[but not Belmar], what’s left of Garfield and what’s left of East Liberty bordering Larimer.
Most of what’s left of the Hill District, part of what’s left of Uptown (around 5th Ave), part of West Oakland (by the Hill) and even what’s left of South Oakland Bottoms (Central Pittsburgh).
Northside: Northview Heights Estates, what’s left of Allegheny Dwellings (aka Belleau Drive), Spring Hill’s Three Rivers Manor (aka 2100 Rhine Street), Allegheny Commoms East Apts, most of Marshall-Shadeland inc. Woods Run, most parts of Perry Hilltop like Wilson Ave & Charles Street Valley, part of California-Kirkbride around Brighton Pl & Morrison St, what’s left of Manchester and “Hoodtown” (Central Northside).
South: Beltzhoover, Knoxville, what’s left of Arlington Heights, most of Mt. Oliver (borough), most of Allentown, part of Arlington, parts of Carrick, southeast Mt. Washington (by Beltzoover/Allentown) and formerly St. Clair Village.
West: the “Greenway Apts” in Crafton Heights, most of Sheraden and Elliott, what’s left of Fairywood (formerly had Broadhead Manor & Westgate Village), most parts of McKees Rocks (borough) and Stowe Township near McKees Rocks.

Places in the Eastern Suburbs like parts of Penn Hills, Wilmerding, most of Turtle Creek, Brinton Manor in Braddock Hills, part of Pitcairn and even parts of Monroeville are getting worse due to ppl moving there.
FINALLY! someone that knows why they're talking about! I was gonna comment myself (not all THAT, though) but glad to see that someone educated those that are watching! """BLACK-N-YELLOW!!! HERE WE GO!""""
I was shot at in Allegheny Commons Apts once lol
Should have drove through McKeesport area which is 15mins from Pittsburgh, ranked 4th most dangerous in the country after 2019 probably be ranked 1
N1GHTMARECRAFT idk man .. bmore at night is probably the worst.. well day too but Pittsburgh is really harmless compared to most city’s iv been in the “ ghetto” areas and it isn’t bad.. I’ll tell you a secret why it isn’t bad... it’s mostly cold.. who doesn’t like cold weather ? 🤫
Right

Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
I've been to Pittsburgh! I was there in 1995.....loved the place. Great bars, nice people made me feel very welcome.
I grew up in The Run. Very isolated. Home of Big Jim's and the golden domed church viewed when you're heading out of town to the Squirrel Hill tunnels.
Big Jims. Bar and sandwiches. Used to go there after rugby practice at the oval.
Lol. This isn't the hood. I've lived in Pittsburgh all of my life. This video is all fairly nice areas.
@@thenderson5509 Sounds like the suburbs. This still is the city, just not the hood
@@SModeTheking actual downtown Pittsburgh is pretty boring, yeah. Everything closes at 5 and it's mostly corporate offices. But come on over to the southside, it's less than a mile away, that's where all the nightlife is.
@@SModeTheking I'm not really sure, but there's a lot of public parks. Southside and Lawrenceville is where the action is.

They dish out their own justice they play rough and they play for keeps. Don’t mess with them and they won’t mess with you.
The hood there looks more healthy than some hoods I've seen! It's not totally depressing like some cities!
arcticablue.....Oh it is.
That's because this isn't the hood lol
arcticablue oh ma’am, that’s bc this are not, he no dumb like to go there and just casually record
it's a great city.
I love ur name
Some of those buildings are old. Pittsburgh was founded in 1758. Not the worst you've shown.
HEY CHARLIE , THERE is a house for sale on BUTLER ST. ANYWAY you can find out how much? thanks!
Looks nice and clean.Everybody have nice cars parked in front of their homes.
FeelingGroovy true. He wasnt at all in Pitt's ghettos. I can say that for sure. He wasnt even close.
i love it when people compete when it comes to shitholes. "no my shithole is shittier than yours you see niggas dropping like its hot here"
It is most definitely not the hilliest city in america.
Ever heard of the much higher mountains (and cities in them) in places throughout New England or the Rocky Mountains?
Excelentes videos. Gracias Charlie
Looks mostly like an industrial working-class city, though some areas at the end looked a little rough.
This is a joke video.
Go to Duquesne
Go to Braddock
Go to Clairton
Go to Mckeesport
Go to Monesson
Then you will see a war zone
This is known to be one of Americas most dramatically improved cities. Used to be so industrial and philthy that the streetlights were on during the day because the air was so dirty.
Pittsburgh has an odd and winding street grid. Did this start out as a Wild West mining town or something?
Love your videos charlie
YYYYYUSSSS! I've been BLEEDING for this video! Thanks!
That is an old Pittsburgh remark that is decades, old
If anyone goes to Pittsburgh and wants to take in the "postcard" view of the downtown area...
Dale McNamee 0
There used to be atleast 4 inclines that I'm aware of
Apparently there used to be a dozen but now we're down to 2. I lived in mt Washington my whole life snd I guess grew used to the view and incline and now I just get annoyed with tourists 🤷
Is this the same city w/ 2 professionals team
Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers ?
is that Lawrenceville?
interesting, Charlie, that in the beginning your clip shows the manicured lawns, the American flags, and the pretty porches of suburbia. Then, your trip takes us past the PPG Arena, perhaps indicating the cross-town requirements to get to the more depressed areas - isolated and neglected and swept away as city parts that the visitor center does not want you to see. Was this your intent? Pretty savvy if so, Charlie.
manicure lawns in the beginning of video was a area called Stanton hts.. in the city...5 mins from downtown Pgh...you could walk ...
What are the nice safe areas to buy a house in Pennsylvania.?
Strawberry is alright but i'd put my chips on kensington if we're gonna talk about nice philly neighborhoods
on the real tho, depends on where u wanna live. delco is pretty nice and so are some of the suburbs around pittsburgh are damn nice but other than that pa is mostly just shit. stay away from reading.
fuck them steelers shitted that's war zone cuz
Queen JKInc. Bucks County Pennsylvania or try Mercer County NJ with the exception of Trenton
fuck them steelers lol you trippin i lived there my whole life you paying high rent just to be a statistic in Kensington you paying low rent but you have to worry about dope fiends out in Pittsburgh its boring as shit but the rent there super cheap good place if you the homebody type

Etna. Not even in the city. My mom grew up there. All white and ethnic white at that.

love how he starts out in Lawrenceville. This guy doesnt know anything. lol
yeah, but his big ass thinks he knows everything. dude might as well have gone into polish hill & squirrel hill
Lol, Lawrenceville is not the hood, guy...I grew up in Bloomfield and Lawrenceville, my family still lives there, far from the hood...
I watch your Detroit videos all the time. I travel to the D fairly often and love it. What's crazy tho is this video. You drove right past my house!!
Was it really cold out or something? It's like a damn ghost town, I didn't see one person for the first 4 minutes of the video. Seems like an okay place to me but I imagine it's different on a warm Friday night in July. Great video though, I never knew what Pittsburgh looked like, it's an interesting city.
Needs a narration. Where are we?
9:10 to 14:37 The Hill district the good hood!!
Love the video's you share...Can't wait for the warm weather, block parties and good ole BBQs.
Summer time!
Man this shit aint nothin compared to the hoods here in philly
Pittsburgh is hilly everywhere. I hate when there's snow and ice on the roads.
I have drove thru these areas for years and never had any issues. Even stopped a places having yard sales.
I was looking forward to moving to Pittsburgh once but I didn't get the job.
My hood starts at 7:46 min not the hood anymore but still got a few projects still
This isn't the hood dude?
All these hills with snow and ice would freak me out driving on when the weather gets really rough
norlens noel,
But, if you grew up here, you would have learned how to do that...
But to locals it’s probably nothing to them
norlens noel,
Pittsburgh gets freezing rain and it can paralyze the city, whether you live in a hilly street or not...
In the "old days" ( I'm 64 ), the city and surrounding area used coal cinders and salt to battle the ice... And we homeowners did the same... But, people mostly avoided going anywhere until the temperatures got above freezing...
Cool, glad you made it here Charlie
I'm still here, I'll be leaving today. I have a little more footage I'll be posting. I will be back though because I also want to get some night footage, and there are several areas here including some you mentioned I found out about that i want to get. Pittsburgh slum areas are actually some of the worst looking I have seen. I was here once before because I have cousins in the Crafton area, but I didn't see that much of the city.
CharlieBo313 cool, can't wait to see what you get, & definitely hit the mon valley, it's even worse
CharlieBo313 PM me when you want to come back. I live in Pittsburgh and have a lot of friends on the Hill.
They love rowhouses in Pennsylvania
had a very bad life experience stuck here for a week...not a lot going on

These videos never hit home till he comes to your city 💯😩👌🏿

What makes Pittsburgh unusual for a large city is the relatively low population of a certain ethnic group, about 23%. So you will have much less violence, crime and drug activity.
where dont you ever go charlie??? You EVERYwhere...

1. Philadelphia
2. Detroit

Thanks man!
Those hilly Pittsburgh streets sure are hell on your transmission, aren't they?
Beginning of the video is Lawrenceville then he's moving up towards stanton heights then back into Lawrenceville
I delivered gopuff in this area for 6 months a little before this video was made. Never had any problems
What is it with people parking the wrong way on the two way streets? In NYC that’s an automatic ticket
pittsburgh pa dosent look that bad
I MISSSSSSS PITTSBURGH!! TROYHILL🖤💛🖤💛
This guy would probly refer to any neighbourhood as a hood
Amazon pays shit, Amazon is shit. I don’t think they want them there tbh.
I used to live in South Side in the late 80's. It was fine. Lots of bars. Solid neighbors. Fair bit of alcoholism, but otherwise pretty normal place. Now, there are some projects east of there that are pretty scary, as are the ones to the NW of the Pitt campus.
I take it you never venture up the hill 😅😅
The video starts out in Lawrenceville, that's not a hood. That's a nightlife part of town where all races of people go to drink and eat on the weekend... Mostly white people forreal. Pittsburgh hoods are Homewood, North Side, Wilkinsburg, Northview Heights, Hill District, McKeesport, etc.
Pittsburgh is the home 🏡 of Grammy Award winner 🏆 George Benson.
You need to start putting up street names and hood names this is were I'm from and I can't see the street names
Pitt must have a different description of 'hood' than other cities. Many of these are older sections, but still very nice.
I was going to say the same. In fact, the neighborhood they went through over most of the first four minutes has homes that regularly sell for over $300k
The hoods are in either Braddock and kinda McKeesport in certain areas.
