Listen to the Crowd and remember this is at Wem Ber Ley! It was always a home match for Scotland, that is why the English FA stopped the Home Internationals. They were sick of being humiliated by Wales, Ireland and Scotland! :-)

Yea, stopping the Home internationals had nothing to do with Scots fans maiming an LT Guard in 73, smashing up Wembley in 77 and robbingshops in Bedfordbury and Long Acre in 79.
Perhaps it was about England only winning the championship on 54 occasions.

I never had any animosity towards the jocks as a younger man, but now I'm older I have realised that they are so evenly balanced.....with a chip on both shoulders. This is the highlight of their football history, along with their famous win in the twenties. Well done Scotland, and when you eventually leave us.......good riddance. You p*ss everybody off, and eventually wore me down too 🤨

@Andrew Mcilroy The noises coming from Scotland from Sturgeon and the rest since the 2014 Referendum, has shown me that there are just too many haters up in Scotland now Andrew. When I worked with Scottish lads I got on with them, and thought it was all banter. Now I believe that I may have been wrong......take care pal👍

Beating England was something to savour. This was the opinion of King Denis Law who scored one of the three goals in Scotland's shocked 3-2 victory over the world champions at Wembley in April 1967.
Law was so thrilled and elated with the victory over England that he approached England's goalkeeper Gordon Banks after the match with a bowl of mayonnaise.
"Come here Gordon son.Since we have beaten you,are we not the unofficial world champions?"Banks was taken aback but left in a hurry without touching the bowl of mayonnaise.
To every Scot Billy Bremner,Jimmy John's one,Jim Baxter,John Greig,Ian Wallace or Denis Law himself beating England is something satisfying as it reflects Scottish pride. But to Law it was something even more when they achieved it at Wembley in 1967."Well England were the world champions then and had gone nineteen matches without defeat. But my team mates beat the wits out of England and held their heads high."

That was a total piss take out of the English team and very proud that Scotland were sporting in letting the World Champions have two easy goals. The whole Scotland team played their part and was nice of England to turn up and make up the numbers cos lets face it......They were utter shite for 90mins.

    • @thevillaaston7811

Yea, making up the number after the Scots, as per their usual tactic, crocked an England player - this time it was Jack Charlton.

'You are one bitter bad loser full of excuses.'
Get real. The Scotland match is meaningless to England.
No one in England could care less about 1967 match, or any Scotland match - apart from what damage would be done to Wembley, what shops would be robbed and how many LT guards would be maimed.
All those prople saving up for two years just so that they could get out of their skulls for a couple of days! Priceless!
My eldest son in 30 years old. We both like to watch World Cup and European Championship finals tournaments.
He asked me the other day what colours Scotland play in. Can you confirm it is still Navy Blue, White and Red?
      Many thanks.

The Scots qualifying campaign for 1970 went something like this:
      Scotland 2 Austria 1
A world class performance from Scotland against World Class opposition making them certs to win the World Cup.
      Cyprus 0 Scotland 5
A world class performance from Scotland against World Class opposition making them certs to win the World Cup.
      Scotland 1 West Germany 1
Scotland robbed as relentless Scottish pressure is undone by a West Germany fluke from a nobody called Gerd Muller and a referee who needed glasses.
      Scotland 8 Cyprus 0
A world class performance from Scotland against World Class opposition making them certs to win the World Cup.
      West Germany 3 Scotland 2
Scotland robbed with all of the West German goals being offside and Scotland being denied three stonewall penalties.
      Austria 3 Scotland 0
Scotland robbed with both of the Austrian goals being offside and Scotland being denied three stonewall penalties.
And when it kicked off in the bars and cafes of Nicosia, Hamburg and Vienna all the Scots fans were actually round at their Aunties' houses having tea.

What are you on about. Read my post again, which was a reply to arlington 1997. I questioned him about saying Baxter didn't have a good game. I saw the game live and I know he did have great game. I couldn't care less what club side a Scotland international player plays for.

  • @ThefightingCelt
    @ThefightingCelt 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Baxter didn't have a great match ? What game were you watching. I watched the game live back in 1967 and this was England's first defeat since they won the World Cup. Scotland took the complete piss out of England this day - so much so that Jimmy Greaves felt let down by his England team mates and Denis Law had a go at Baxter for not hammering a nail in England's coffin rather than playing keepy uppy. Yes the pace was slower but the ball then was twice as heavy. Players are more athletic now.

the "Home Internationals" were a distraction for English clubs who were engaged in European ties and already had congested fixture list. About 60% of the home internationals played for English clubs. It was more an "exptatriates and exiles" tournament and it had no significance for Englands world football ranking either as the home internationals were not recognized as a full international fixture by FIFA.
