The big issue with Tamagotchi is that non-Japanese markets never get the newer era with the color and backlit screens, which even have mobile app integration, Bluetooth and NFC. We just keep getting the old ass original. In Japan, Tamagotchi never “died”, because it kept getting revitalized and upgraded.
It's likely because the west aren't massive consumers so they would be putting money into translation and delivering that isn't profitable anymore... unfortunately

If you're looking into other Tamagotchi, they have some great Japanese versions that are colored and you can do quite a lot with them. The Tamagotchi meets is releasing in November, and previously before that was the Tamagotchi mix. If you are interested in Tamagotchi is I definitely recommend actually looking into them and seeing the awesomeness that they have evolved into.

Theres a newer Tamagotchi THATS IN ENGLISH; The Tamagotchi ON (or meets in JPN); a colour screen one with the Mixability of those it marrys. It connects to a app where you can go online play games and marry other players; the child becomes a fusion of the parents characteristics; It's pretty fun and reintroduced my love to tamas again.
People have often used Digimon as a Tomagachi comparison, but they forget that Pokemon actually was partially ripped off this idea with the Poke Walker from Heart Gold Soul Silver. Some trends never die.
There were (at least) 2 generations. I had the second gen and it could communicate with the original Gold and Silver in a limited fashion via the GBC's IR port. Those rare candies are the only way I've ever managed to get a lv100 pokemon...
Pokemon didn't ripoff Tamagotchi, they ripped off Digivice. Digivices are basically pedometer toys, and the name PokeWalker pretty much says it all. What's neat is the ability to get the mon from and to the game. As far as I know, Digimon had it only with JP DW2 and Pocketstation Pocket Digimon World games.
Billiam, we're getting a full color tamagotchi packed with a ton of new never before seen (in a fully English release that is) features. We can dress our character up, feed it food from the fridge or have it go to town and eat at a restaurant. When it's an adult, it can marry and when it has it's egg, it has a chance of hatching into twins. Each consecutive generation of your original tamagotchi will be a combination of it's mother and father in appearance. There are literally hundreds of possible combinations! Plus there is a mechanic for your tamagotchi to find and own a pet, and even breed it to get a pet baby that also looks like a combination of it's two parents!! There is also an app you can connect your tamagotchi device to via bluetooth to bring your little tamagotchi to visit a virtual Tamatown and do and collect things there! It's called the Tamagotchi On and will be released on the 27th of July, 2019.
I never had a Tamagotchi, my sister did, but I only had something more similar, which was called PixlChix. I had two game consoles of it, one was where you take care of a hamster (that apparently also loved to disco) and one where you control a pixel girl in a mall. The series was (kinda obviously) more female related, which is why I was kinda into it when I was young, cause I didn’t know I would’ve enjoyed ‘boy dominated’ games when I was little. I thought the games were actually really creative. Because the characters were all pixels on a screen, but the background was 3D toys inside, which could give the illusion of the character doing something like sitting down in a 3D chair behind them. There were also certain cool features too with the console, for example in the mall game I had, to go to the second level, you had to unhook the screen and put it on the (empty, excluding the 3D background) screen that was second floor to light it up and play it. (I don’t know if that was clear, it’s kinda hard to explain) and with the hamster game, you could turn the console upside down and the environment would flip into a nightclub. I think there were way more games like this, but I only had these two. There was also no real ‘end’ to these games either, so you could play them over and over, which is kinda what I’m into anyway when it comes to games. I hope someone else knows about this, I’d be happy if that was the case. Also sorry if this was kinda off topic, Tamagotchi was just reminding me of PixlChix and I wanted to see if anyone else knew this :)
I actually saw tamagotchis on display when I took my little brother to Gamestop to buy Kirby and Dark Souls. I was really shocked to see it come back...too bad it's not Digimon.
I never had a real Tamagotchi years until I owned the Game Boy version. I did own a Giga Pet from Tiger Electronics in the form of Yoda from Star Wars.
I only ever played the Game Boy version of Tamagotchi too as well as had a Giga Pet but it was a Floppy Frog. It kept dying on me too! The first day I played it, I left it alone after a bit to go to bed. The next day it was dead! It never grew from a tadpole to a frog no matter how many times I tried😢!

I had a weird off brand one that had a tube when I was a little kid. Whenever your creature grew up the top of the canister would open and you'd get a plushy of your adult creature, I loved mine. I can't remember the name or find it again, was hoping you covered it Edit: they were a Mattel toy. In 2013, an app called Tamagotchi Original was created. It is exactly the same as a real Tamagotchi. They are easy to care for and send you a notification when they need you. The app was taken off the app store in 2015 but I downloaded it from my library.

Not many people talk about the in universe lore that connects all of Bandais vpet series. There's a Digimon called Nanimon and this is what it's description says: "A Digimon whose true identity is unknown, it arrived in the Digital World from another dimension in order to invade it. It was known by the title "OYAJI" in the other dimension, where it was raised as a digital pet. While it loves alcohol and has an oppressive personality, ever since it invaded this Digital World, it evolved to become more active and turned into Nanimon." ^This is a reference to the fact Nanimon and the Tamagochi Oyajitchi shared the same sprite. And this means that the Tamagochi are digital beings in another universes Digital World. Wonder what that means for the Eevee Tamagochi collab? 🤔 An Eevee that got sucked into a Digital World through the PC? Another vpet series Bandai own is called Magical Witches which is basically just Tamagochi with witches based on elements set in the world of Witchelny. They never gave names to the witches or a species like "Tamagochi" or "Digimon" so what they did later is integrated it into Digimon lore. The Digimon, Sorcerimon, Wizarmon, Witchmon, Medieval Dukemon, Mistymon, and Fla Wizarmon are all said to come from the "Digital World from another dimension" called Witchelny. And they said that sorcery from Witchelny is another name for "high-level programming languages," and that Digimon go to a school their to learn "magic."

I got one after everyone else because I grew up poor. It was a knock-off that started to go weird if your hand heated it up too much (making strange noises, sometimes reset itself) so you had to only interact with it when it called you, and then you had to leave it alone quickly. I have never related more to any animal or person.
Tamagochi was a big deal in my country but was very shortlived, not only there were many knock offs, the original one was hard to come by... and many children complained their pet died too quickly, the tamagochi would never shut up when you where at school so imagine... like 3-4 months later, nobody cared about the "noisy pets that die all the time" anymore.
It'd be interesting seeing you review the shows and movies, especially "Tamagotchi World", "Tamagotchi Friends", and "Tamagotchi the Movie". (Also, despite coming late, "My Tamagotchi Forever" seem to be doing well on Google Play Store.)

Speaking of the animation series, the Japanese video you briefly showed explains that Tamagotchi fled to Earth because a middle-aged dude got the planet drunk. Not “the planet” as in “everybody”, but the literal planet. He fed the entire planet too much rice wine and got it too drunk to live on.

That is if Doom Slayer is too busy ripping and tearing the Dark Masters minions apart My Hero Academia - If the Doom Slayer decides to perform his rip and tear shtick on the villains, many woukd panic. Doom Slayer would most likely be able to slaughter characters like Himiko Toga, Hero Killer Stain, the many Noumu, Overhaul, and even All for One. Imagine what it would be like if you were a villain, the Hero Killer was easily killed, and his killer is coming for you now. That would make characters like Dabi, Toga, and many others break down. Pokemon - Doom Slayer would probably kill many villains like Faba, Giovanni, Ghetsis, Cyrus, and Hunter J, stealing their pokemon and indoctrinating them to want to rip and tear demons. Imagine if the Doom Slayer raised an army of Pokemon that wanted to Rip and Tear demons like he did.

In a world where people are looking for ways to disconnect, I think there’s plenty of space for a meaningful experience that v-pets can offer. If I’m checking my Tamagotchi instead of my phone, it decreases the potential to get sucked in and start doom-scrolling.

If you're still interested in Tamagotchi, I strongly suggest that you get the Tamagotchi On. It packs all the features that Tamagotchi was getting in Japan into one shell, and is pretty cheap nowadays.
I used to own a purple tamagotchi mini and I can confirm it SUCKS all you can do is feed it, tell the time, and clean its poop (you can also turn off the sound) I’m glad I upgraded to a tamagotchi on. Even tho my TO needs attention 24/7. This is why I like digimon
Anyone else remember the weird bratz version called Muchiez. You had to feed and take care of a baby brat on the little handheld lcd screen but you could plug it into your pc and go online with other muchiez.
I had a Tamagotchi when I was little, for about 1 minute, then my mum accidentially set the time so it would be active at night. From then on, it was my mum's Tamagotchi. She literally kept it on her bedstand all night to take care of it. Eventually I lost interested because whenever I wanted to play with it during the day, it was, of course, asleep. I think one day she came up to me and told me it had died and I didn't really mind, I guess she was very relieved by that.
I've never gotten any tomagotchi as a kid sadly. Guess by the time I would've been ready for one, the fad had long past. My closest experience were those puffles in Club Penguin which didn't just take a day at school for them to die/run away, at least.

There's a Japanese tamagotchi DS game. You make your own tamagotchi and you don't have to feed it or clean up its poop or take care of it. All you do is decorate your house and make friends with other tamagotchis.

I think there were way more games like this, but I only had these two. There was also no real ‘end’ to these games either, so you could play them over and over, which is kinda what I’m into anyway when it comes to games.
I hope someone else knows about this, I’d be happy if that was the case.

I actually saw tamagotchis on display when I took my little brother to Gamestop to buy Kirby and Dark Souls. I was really shocked to see it come back...too bad it's not Digimon.

I never had a real Tamagotchi years until I owned the Game Boy version.
I did own a Giga Pet from Tiger Electronics in the form of Yoda from Star Wars.
I only ever played the Game Boy version of Tamagotchi too as well as had a Giga Pet but it was a Floppy Frog. It kept dying on me too! The first day I played it, I left it alone after a bit to go to bed. The next day it was dead! It never grew from a tadpole to a frog no matter how many times I tried😢!
I had the Yoda Gigaa Pet too! Looks like we got in on the baby Yoda waaaaaaay before everyone else! 😂

Such nostalgia... I grew up overseas and became the cool kid when my uncle brought me a Tamagotchi that was a generation ahead of the most recent one in my country. I had a pouch for it that I wore around my neck, I had a notebook decorated with it, and my nickname for that school year was Tamagotchi.
I didn't think tamagotchi was still a thing but one of my friends in uni bought a couple of them (and there is still an active fandom so I'm impressed).
But I remember having one tamagotchi toy in middle school and it didn't last very long lmao
Now is the perfect time for them to be popular again. They're collectible, cute, self-contained, with nostalgic graphics and perfect as a retro fashion accessory.

I had a weird off brand one that had a tube when I was a little kid. Whenever your creature grew up the top of the canister would open and you'd get a plushy of your adult creature, I loved mine. I can't remember the name or find it again, was hoping you covered it
Edit: they were a Mattel toy. You'd feed and bathe your creature until it got too big and you could put it on your keychain or backpack whenever it popped out grown. I honestly might order one

In 2013, an app called Tamagotchi Original was created. It is exactly the same as a real Tamagotchi. They are easy to care for and send you a notification when they need you. The app was taken off the app store in 2015 but I downloaded it from my library.

They just came out with the Tamagotchi ON. Color screen, app connectivity, and some other changes like the Tamagotchi Hotel (A place that takes care of your tamagotchi for you because schools) and your tamagotchi being able to eat out.

Not many people talk about the in universe lore that connects all of Bandais vpet series.
There's a Digimon called Nanimon and this is what it's description says:
"A Digimon whose true identity is unknown, it arrived in the Digital World from another dimension in order to invade it. It was known by the title "OYAJI" in the other dimension, where it was raised as a digital pet. While it loves alcohol and has an oppressive personality, ever since it invaded this Digital World, it evolved to become more active and turned into Nanimon."
^This is a reference to the fact Nanimon and the Tamagochi Oyajitchi shared the same sprite. And this means that the Tamagochi are digital beings in another universes Digital World.
Wonder what that means for the Eevee Tamagochi collab? 🤔 An Eevee that got sucked into a Digital World through the PC?
Another vpet series Bandai own is called Magical Witches which is basically just Tamagochi with witches based on elements set in the world of Witchelny. They never gave names to the witches or a species like "Tamagochi" or "Digimon" so what they did later is integrated it into Digimon lore.
The Digimon, Sorcerimon, Wizarmon, Witchmon, Medieval Dukemon, Mistymon, and Fla Wizarmon are all said to come from the "Digital World from another dimension" called Witchelny. And they said that sorcery from Witchelny is another name for "high-level programming languages," and that Digimon go to a school their to learn "magic."
I smell a Bandai V-Pet Cinematic Universe on the horizon, especially since Digimon & Tamagotchi have had films & anime.
Yesss! Love the video! Got a Tamagotchi/Gameboy Color/Digivice Tattoo ink last year and don’t regret getting the little garbage monster on my forearm forever.
I got one after everyone else because I grew up poor. It was a knock-off that started to go weird if your hand heated it up too much (making strange noises, sometimes reset itself) so you had to only interact with it when it called you, and then you had to leave it alone quickly.
I have never related more to any animal or person.
Tamagochi was a big deal in my country but was very shortlived, not only there were many knock offs, the original one was hard to come by... and many children complained their pet died too quickly, the tamagochi would never shut up when you where at school so imagine... like 3-4 months later, nobody cared about the "noisy pets that die all the time" anymore.
Did nobody figure out how to mute them? lol

When I was 8, I got a tamagotchi in Hong Kong (I still have it); I also got a counterfeit one which surprisingly, could interact (visit) with my real one.
I used to have a Giga pet Lost World Jurassic Park: Baby T-Rex when I was a kid. My elementary school had to ban Tamagotchi due to us kids not doing our schoolwork

Also, the 20th Anniversary Digimon changed the training from guessing up and down to charging a meter to break a wall... unless you train both at once (you can raise two at a time), where it will be the classic training minigame.
Speaking of the animation series, the Japanese video you briefly showed explains that Tamagotchi fled to Earth because a middle-aged dude got the planet drunk. Not “the planet” as in “everybody”, but the literal planet. He fed the entire planet too much rice wine and got it too drunk to live on.

My Hero Academia - If the Doom Slayer decides to perform his rip and tear shtick on the villains, many woukd panic. Doom Slayer would most likely be able to slaughter characters like Himiko Toga, Hero Killer Stain, the many Noumu, Overhaul, and even All for One. Imagine what it would be like if you were a villain, the Hero Killer was easily killed, and his killer is coming for you now. That would make characters like Dabi, Toga, and many others break down.
Pokemon - Doom Slayer would probably kill many villains like Faba, Giovanni, Ghetsis, Cyrus, and Hunter J, stealing their pokemon and indoctrinating them to want to rip and tear demons. Imagine if the Doom Slayer raised an army of Pokemon that wanted to Rip and Tear demons like he did.

The first version was fun until I was back in school. My teacher was so salty about them beeping in class so I had to leave it at home. Every day I had to reset it because it died by the time I got home. Good thing they brought out ones with a pause feature

Anyone else remember the weird bratz version called Muchiez. You had to feed and take care of a baby brat on the little handheld lcd screen but you could plug it into your pc and go online with other muchiez.
Had the original, an ocean (which was a nightmare), a connection, and a digimon. The digimon variant was by far the best.

I had a Tamagotchi when I was little, for about 1 minute, then my mum accidentially set the time so it would be active at night.
From then on, it was my mum's Tamagotchi. She literally kept it on her bedstand all night to take care of it.
Eventually I lost interested because whenever I wanted to play with it during the day, it was, of course, asleep.
I think one day she came up to me and told me it had died and I didn't really mind, I guess she was very relieved by that.
I cried hysterically as a kid when I forgot my Tamagotchi in my school uniform pocket and it went into the washer.
I've never gotten any tomagotchi as a kid sadly. Guess by the time I would've been ready for one, the fad had long past. My closest experience were those puffles in Club Penguin which didn't just take a day at school for them to die/run away, at least.

There's a Japanese tamagotchi DS game. You make your own tamagotchi and you don't have to feed it or clean up its poop or take care of it. All you do is decorate your house and make friends with other tamagotchis.
