Thank you for the vid and showing the basic steps, it helps the newer people just diving in to this whole lawn care game. Recently got a sprayer and was wondering proper technique - thanks!
Just don't triple rinse the pump sprayer in the lake and you'll be fine. I love you, be safe, can't wait for our collab coming up (was I allowed to reveal that?)
Ok. Went to my local Walmart today. They still had almost half a pallet full of old formula Milorganite, on clearance for $9 a bag. I bought 15 bags today. Next payday. I'm taking the rest of the pallet. NOBODY around here uses it, I guess, except me. So I have enough to get thru the rest of this year and HOPEFULLY, the rest of that pallet will be enough to get thru at least spring and summer of next year. I'm all set.
Wife: Conner what do you want to take on vacation Conner: my backpack sprayer, my grass shears, my edger.... I’d like to take the greens master but I’ll settle for the rotary mower there.... ew and don’t forget my broadcast spreader!!! Wife: what about underwear?!? Conner: oh..... I forgot 😁
Great video!I'm a first timer, starting next week, and have been way overthinking it, but thanks to videos like yours and others I'm ready to get to it.
Selman, I had minimal success. Some weeds died, but a lot didn't.Since then I've tried several different herbicides to treat several different weeds. Some were better than others, but I still have a lawn full of weeds.Gonna be a long process it seems. Thanks for asking.Have a good one!
Hey Connor, man I just have to say I have been watching your videos and I have to say you have a great sense of humor with a ton of knowledge. Thanks bud.
Hey Connor👋I use the same thing it works well, I bump up the 2-4D with a concentrated version from my local farm store, and I use the Dawn. My neighbor has quite a bot of weeds that creep over to my property line and I hit that line well. It is my “test plot” toward the back. I have noticed that on a day where the ground is wet it works best. I am not sure why I am thinking the foliage does not absorb/wick the product right away since the ground it damp and it allows more dwell time on leaf contact. I get very minor grass blade chemical burn but it comes right back. I love that property you have there! - SSG Bap
at 5:00 connor's legs are already glowing from the chemicals lol. Oh and don't ask me how I know but those shoes will be soaked by the end of this application haha. Keep waking up fine in the mornings and keep up the habitual rule breaking!
Update: I used this method and it seems to be working. The lot next to mine is undeveloped and has a lot of crabgrass, which is where mine is coming from. Now you can tell where I sprayed the stuff as my crabgrass has turned yellowish while the other lot is still green. Thanks a bunch. I had tried using the Weed-B-Gon that connects to my hosepipe, but it really did not work at all IMO. This idea works way better, and the Dawn as a surfactant is probably the difference maker.
will this kill Los Angeles style crabgrass> Crabgrass here never freezes or dies as there is no off season. As a results crabgrass roots are 1-2 feet deep.
Just to clarify, if someone comments that you should at least wear eye protection and gloves, you would consider that person to be a hater? Are you really than sensitive? If your family proposes the same thing, would you consider them haters? Really? Perhaps you use that term so your viewers will consider you to be a real pro at you tube. You should be proud. Really.
I have a vacation home on the lake and want to be conscientious about spraying/ applying fertilizer near the shore line. What precautions do you use or should you use?
Hi. Can I do this anytime of the year? I have a ton of crabgrass in my yard. I live in Arizona and our temps are in the high 90 degrees. Next week we are going to hit 100 degrees. If it's okay to do now, how long do I have to wait to put down grass seed? This is all new to me. My husband took care of the lawns. He passed away last year from covid and now I'm trying to keep up with the lawns. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I went through Pesticide Management training and the safety stuff was gospel. With consumer products, a pair of kitchen gloves is all you need. I worked in agriculture and never did glow in the dark with no PPE after using Restricted Use products... How do you like that sprayer? I just bought one and have not unboxed it... I'm going with a Spectricide Crabgrass control in the spring, it has a little Dismiss added to the formula as a pre-emergent (check it out, with the orange cap). A few weeks ago, I put down some lawn grass product from the farm supply to get after the lawn weeds before winter, I used a hose end sprayer. The stuff was cheap and won't control the annual grass but I'm going to put down some pre-emergent because the WEED problem would make Tommy Chong jealous.
Does it matter what time of year you apply? Also what about new grass? I seeded new lawn about 6 weeks ago, it’s full of weeds and I don’t know what to do. Worried about killing the young grass I suppose.
On the front label of the ortho its says safe for lawns, then you open up the directions, there are lawns that you can not use this product on like St.Augustine.Ortho should state that on the front.I can imagine there are people spraying their whole st.Augustine lawn, not knowing this important info
I like using cheap 2, 4 D for weed control. Its a very inexpensive solution that kills most everything except the troublesome grassy weeds (dallisgrass, crabgrass, poa, etc.) and sedges (nutsedge, kyllinga). Plus you can buy it anywhere, and in fact I just picked a quart of the 2, 4 D concentrate on clearance at a certain big box store for $4 that will last me years. I like to buy grassy weed control products like quinclorac separately and make my own tank mix according to what I am treating.
I noticed the herbicide you used has 2,4D in it. I don't know what part of the country you are in, but if the temperature is over 90 degrees it will yellow your grass. Also, the mixture seemed a bit extreme. I use straight 2,4D and dicamba and I don't ever use over an ounce of product in one gallon of water plus surfactant. I would like to see the result of your application.
Hey Connor, quick question. How long would you wait, before say walking on your lawn in your bare feet, after applying a total coverage weed control like this?
I work for a big coop in northwest Oklahoma and I usually spray MSMA 6plus on my grass it kinda knocks my Bermuda grass back a bit but it works pretty dang good on the crab grass
Hi!! What kind of products did you used on your lawn,? My lawn has a lot of crabgrass and I'm looking for a good formula that will help me getting rid of the crabgrass without killing the lawn. I will appreciate if you help me with what to buy. Thanks
I just added some herbacide (Tenacity) to my lawn about a week ago; pre-emergence. I plan on a post-emergence application in a couple weeks. My question is; can i spray that Weed Killer as well, I guess I am being very impatient and these Dandelions are an eyesore?
I saw some Asian Plantian in there.. I too have this crazy weed and have had a very tough time killing it. I am interested to hear if that weed killer worked, or if you recommend something else. Thx.
Hey Connor, just found your channel and love educating myself on lawn care. We bought our house about 2 years ago, and the lawn was basically an ignored step-child, so I'm trying to get it back up to par. However, the back yard has come down with a serious case of Goosegrass. What is the best way to get rid of that junk? Thanks in advance!
Connor Ward, did you look at the same product with the hose end sprayer? It shows almost double the effective 2,4-D and Quinclorac. I was wondering if the products application rate comes out the same if mixed properly. I used the Ortho Hose end sprayer product on my Bermuda lawn and made two major mistakes. It was about 91 degrees when applied and near 100 the following days. I also doubled the application rate, oopsy. It has taken almost four weeks for the grass to come back and become mostly green again. The dandelions were nowhere to be seen and the crabgrass died back in a hard way. Good riddance. Unfortunately the clover keeps re-emerging. Location is Riverside Ca. A desert valley of Socal.dessert
Connor, your spraying and walking thru it, which I suppose off you had some type rubber boot wouldn't be too bad, as long as you don't track thru your house.
Connor... Would love to see a video specific to Bermuda grass and how to get rid of it after it has appeared in blue fescue. I've been told this is close to impossible. Hoping you might know something about how to treat this?
If your planning on killing your whole lawn and doing a renovation. Then kill and seed immediately or wait until next August to seed. You really need to kill early July so to kill everything like 3 times before seed down. If you don't kill now then for sure do pre emergent in fall
Off-topic, but you don't have to worry about waking up OK tomorrow. You may have to worry about being OK when you wake up 25-35 years from now. Yes, I have sprayed in shorts and T-shirts too. I also take a shower afterward.
Great Video Thank You I just put in a new lawn and need to get rid of weeds already my neighbors have such beautiful lawns he's uses Scotts 3 times a year and weeds can't get into the lawn it's nice and thick
Im curious how that Ortho did there. I did a test with that Weed B Gon and Roundup Kills Weeds not lawn sprayer. Ortho was slower to kill weeds and didn't kill clover & wild vilot as well. Also browned some grass blades.
I've moved into a new house and the lawn is completely full of weeds. I'm going to apply turf but I'm unsure if digging up the top layer will be sufficient or do I need to apply weed killer first then remove the top layer?
Sure. It was a bottle of Ortho Weed B Gon MAX plus crabgrass control. I follow the directions on the label. I think that it called for 2.5 oz per every one gallon of water. I also added about 2 oz of dawn dish soap to this mix. The dish soap helps break down the surface tension of the water so it will coat the leaf better. It helps the water not bead up.
Could I send you a pic of weeds in my lawn and have you tell me what they are. Local lawn guys here in Idaho don’t care to give me their time. They tell me to just use weed and feed but I think I need something more like tenacity that Ryan knorr uses. But before I spend that much I’d like these identified so I know it should work. Any help I’d appreciate it.
Everybody, even lawn care companies, tells me that there's no way to kill crabgrass... is that true? If not, what do I need? Does your mixture of water, dawn, and orthodox weed b gone really do the trick?
I just noticed dead grass almost like if someone tried to make a perfect line could that be gas from my lawnmower or something line that ? How can I send you a photo of it? Help man
The dish soap breaks down the surface tension of the water. It helps so the water does not bead up and will better stick or coat the leaf of the weed. I am not sure of the amount of dish soap to use. I would say an ounce or two per gallon of water. You really should just buy a "non ionic surfactant" from any place that sells these kinds of products in bigger amounts like gallon or 2 gallon sizes. It is fairly inexpensive and is the correct product for this application. I just happen to be on vacation when I applied that stuff and the dish soap was all that I had access to at the time.
Connor, did that pressure tank inside that sprayer fill with liquid while you were using it? I just bought the same sprayer and when I took that pressure tank out to clean it is was almost completely full of liquid. I'm trying to figure out if that is normal for that sprayer or not.
Apply this when it is less than 90 degrees. Apply anytime between about 60 degrees and 90 degrees.
You mention that you already had the Dawn dish detergent in the sprayer, but you never said HOW MUCH to add to 4 gallons. So, that''s my question. How much Dawn to 4 gallons?
I would buy a "non ionic surfactant". It is better because it's technically made for that. As for dawn... I'd add like maybe 2 oz per gallon maybe. That dawn is just what I had. I prefer a true surfactant but dawn works if that is what you have.
I’d love to see how the lawn/weeds looked after that spray. Wondering if that stuff is still ok use if you have dogs or kids that occasionally play on the grass??? Ps. Love the channel! 👍
Love the neighbors that are jealous and can’t figure out how you have such a good lawn yet you never see them outside and they call a lawn care company to put down chem!
Connor Ward bummer I just did the same to my yard in hopes to see if I could get rid of the crab grass that overtook my yard. Planned on back seeding in a few weeks but not sure if I should just renovate the yard instead.
WTF Connor , you are a little bit narky about the PPE and agro with the bbq, I think it is time you went on a holiday to relax !! 😜 Good content in the video about how to set up and spray weed killer. Zen out Connor!!
I made a huge error and applied 100% undiluted Gordon's Lv400 2,4d weed killer on some NASTY Canadian thistle. Yeah, not good. Ended up killing 7 flats of inpatients. This video made me laugh though, said to myself.... Wish this was out 2 months ago!!! Great stuff. Dominator.
Ha ha.. I am so sorry to hear that. Yeah that was a fail for sure. I did get your email. I am pondering it. I also watched the vid. But did it kill the nasty thistle?
@@lawnrebel it was an epic failure and worth the laugh. YES! It destroyed the Thistle, some grass, and some of the creeping flocks but not the crabgrass!! Sounds good, thanks.
Ok, no PPE, check. Mixing your chemical in a container that doesn’t follow the label of the chemical you are using, check. Filling your tank on a walkway and seeing the residuals flow where people walk, check. Walking into the spray rather than walking backwards, check. I didn’t mention your soaked shoes and socks. I’m sure your legs received a treatment. But I believe that lawn you treated looked amazing within a week.👍
Adding a blue dye helps to that way you can see what you spray.
excellent advice

For folks not ultra crazy and intense like I am i would recommend allyns tips. His tips are better for the average Joe than my tips.
Connor Ward It seems Allyn’s tip is longer than your tip.

I don't. The lake is crazy big. I figure that it will get ultra diluted if a small amount gets into the water.
How long do you have to wait until the kids can play in the yard after spraying ?
Once the lawn is dry. I would wait a day or after you water it the next day

When is the best season to apply this product on grass?
Anytime you have weeds and the grass is actively growing
Also good to keep the potassium levels up to combat crabgrass.
hey conner great vid I was wondering if it matters or what weed spray works best?
It really does not matter as long as it has 24d in it. Most of them do. They are basically almost all created equal.

I didn't buy the ortho. It happened to be the garage
How much dish soap did you add to that 4 gallon mixture? Love the videos, keep em coming.
mike hay what’s the purpose of the dISH soap?
The dish soap breaks down the surface tension of the water. It helps so the water does not bead up and will better stick or coat the leaf of the weed. I am not sure of the amount of dish soap to use. I would say an ounce or two per gallon of water. You really should just buy a "non ionic surfactant" from any place that sells these kinds of products in bigger amounts like gallon or 2 gallon sizes. guanotan The dish soap is used as a surfactant which helps the chemical stick to the leaves of the of the weeds.

I would buy a "non ionic surfactant". It is better because it's technically made for that. As for dawn... I'd add like maybe 2 oz per gallon maybe. That dawn is just what I had. I prefer a true surfactant but dawn works if that is what you have.
Ok serious question: why DO they say you can't let the hose touch the inside?
Cross contamination. Could contaminate the public source or your own drinking water.
I’d love to see how the lawn/weeds looked after that spray. Wondering if that stuff is still ok use if you have dogs or kids that occasionally play on the grass???
Ps. Love the channel! 👍
hard to say what it looked like after the spray and the kill. I was long gone. I will however be there in August of 2019 and I will show it.
Connor Ward cool.
Most sillcocks have an anti-siphon device to stop any cross connection.
Can I put the end of the hose in the sprayer!?
You can yes. Its not a good idea but yes you can. I would not.
Your content is off the chain. Great content with good humor! :)
“Don’t be doing any of this crap!!”
Question? What is that floating mat type thingy on the rhs of the jetty?
Called a Lilly pad. Just a lake toy for the kids to play on or something to lay on.
Thanks for the explanation, That’s a great idea, we don’t have those in Australia!
How soon should I expect to see a difference? Dead weeds & crabgrass?
Love the neighbors that are jealous and can’t figure out how you have such a good lawn yet you never see them outside and they call a lawn care company to put down chem!
Are we going to get an update on this lawn?
No. I am home now. I will be back there in 2019 at the same time of the year. That will be the only time that I can update it.
Connor Ward bummer I just did the same to my yard in hopes to see if I could get rid of the crab grass that overtook my yard. Planned on back seeding in a few weeks but not sure if I should just renovate the yard instead.
Your dad gut is on point
What’s the name of that Lake?
You're the man Connor love your lawn passion. Looks like a pretty shady lawn, is it perennial ryegrass?
I am not sure. Likely a northern mix of blue rye and fescue. Hard for me to tell the difference.
Hope you get a chance to enjoy a mow...
Gotta love the feel of a lake house.
I agree. Such a nice place
What is the reason for adding the dish soap?
Breaks down the surface tension (beading) of the water. Makes the product spread on the leaf much better
Connor Ward how much soap do you apply to the 4 gallon? Does it matter?
WTF Connor , you are a little bit narky about the PPE and agro with the bbq, I think it is time you went on a holiday to relax !! 😜 Good content in the video about how to set up and spray weed killer. Zen out Connor!!
Yeeeaaaaahhhh!! Go Connor. Give those Safety Sallys fits!!! They're gonna have a thrombo!😀
Exactly.
Imagine that
Can you show the results ??
😂
How much soap should I use?
Go to home depot or Lowes and buy surfactant or "spreader sticker." this would be a better option
Whoa whoa whoa, why can you break all the rules, but I have to go in perfect grid-lines?
Don’t use that sprayer for anything else now. That Quinclorac sticks good.
