    I own a pressure washing company here in illinois. Couple tips on your new hot water washer. Keep a good battery on it, the transformer that ignites the diesel fuel needs to have constant 12.5-14vdc. Put a high pressure swivel between your hose and wand it will save on the hose, fighting it to get loops out when washing. And when your done be sure to shut the burner off 1st and run it till cold water comes out. And finally when you start and shut the motor on and off hold the handle down on the wand to release pressure. Nice machine tho if you ever have any questions feel free to reach out to me, I'd gladly help. Great videos also keep them coming!

      There are multiple good reasons to buy used gear. The first is price and the second is the tax man.
      Every county usually has an appraisal district, or property taxing authority. They're responsible for taxing your stuff (land, buildings, materials and equipment) and can be brutal, especially on new equipment. New equipment has a depreciating value schedule of 7-15 years and the tax rate changes depending on the market value of the item. if it's over a certain amount, you get one rate and if its under a certain amount, it's another rate. If the equipment is older than the depreciation schedule, the rate falls pretty significantly.
      I run a services business and purposely don't keep inventory because it's a nightmare. I'd have to hire a full time employee just to keep records of inventory and file the paperwork every year. It's sometimes an inconvenience, but I do pretty well to plan jobs where I can get the parts needed the same or next day.
      I'd imagine his tax bill is pretty harsh since he lives in NY, but not crippling since he doesn't live in the city.

    You are correct about it being a CARB Compliant engine because of that tube going from the tank to the intake for the gas fumes.
    What happened was you overfilled the tank and the excess poured through the tube into the intake and then filled the cylinder and crankcase.
    You should be able to plug off the line or just not overfill the fuel tank.
    Edit:
    I guess it is a clone since it doesn’t have any Honda labelling on it anywhere.
    They will counterfeit anything in China if the market is there for it. Supposedly at one time a factory was making complete knockoff Honda CRV’s that looked exactly like an actual Honda CRV but the engine was no where near a Honda in quality. Since they weren’t exported, Honda couldn’t stop them so instead Honda built factories there in a deal to stop the counterfeit production.

      There is clearly a design fault if you can overfill the gas tank if its only half way full. Lucky the diluted oil was spotted straight away or the engine would be gone.
      I expect these were at auction due to all the sized returns ect.

    • @DieselRamcharger
      @DieselRamcharger 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      no design fault, the recirc is in the filler neck not halfway up the tank. if you fill it over full, and keep filling, it overflows into the tank. You can thank your local bureaucrat.

  • @michaelovitch
    @michaelovitch 6 ปีที่แล้ว +48

    I guess there is a hard line or plastic line in the tank wich is pointing to the bottom instead of the top part of the tank.
    It collects gas fumes and send them into the intake.
    You shouldn't be obliged to get a vented gas cap,since the tank will not be under vacuum once it's working properly.
    The hose venting fumes on the intake side wich is under atmospheric pressure.(before throttle plate)

    • @michaelovitch
      @michaelovitch 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      All evap systems are vent valves,they are sealed systems venting in the vacuum side ,and the pressure is equalized by allowing a part of the vent tube to go on the intake side PRIOR the throttle plate.
      The hose you see on this washer is doing both : allowing fumes to be sucked in,and allowing air to go in the tank from the intake.

    • @michaelovitch
      @michaelovitch 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does too,because there is a bit of vacuum between the throttle plate and the air filter,and mostly when the engine is reving up

      @sharpshorts 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That line is the vent for the gas tank - inside the tank it 'should curve up to the top of the tank...the gas cap is not vented...if you leave the hose blocked, the motor will eventually starve for fuel until you loosen the gas cap (or get a vented cap)...
      The pressure washer will run all day as long as it has water, oil, gas and kerosene in it...
      A tip - do not run the engine for more than a few minutes at a time without spraying the pressure gun for a few seconds - this lets "fresh" cool water into the pump. If you don't press the gun's trigger, the same water in the pump just recirculates, getting hotter and hotter and the pump will overheat...which will cut down on the life of the pump's seals and plungers...The plungers are usually made of ceramic and can crack in as little as 5 minutes if fresh inlet water is not allowed into the pump via the garden hose.

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sharpshorts You can see around 9:30 that it only heats when you run it. I guess it has pressure meter which will cut off heater and disengage engine when it reaches maximum pressure, at least I've seen similar thing working this way (but without heater). It won't load engine so it revs higher when you are not spraying. The other thing is if this one is (tap) water cooled or just air cooled. Most of cheaper machines use cold water for cooling engine but bigger ones, especially with Honda engines that are quite popular in Europe are air cooled and you can run it all day long without spraying. It only needs water to build up pressure, otherwise it won't disengage clutch for pump and will try to pump air all the time.

    Andrew - The pressure washer has a throttle for a reason, you don't have to run it wide open, especially when the higher pressures will force water through seals and gaskets! Be sure to relieve the pressure on the line when you turn the unit off as the boiler senses, with the line still pressurized, that there is a demand for it to be on. You should invest in a flow switch that will turn the boiler on and off by water moving past a sensor as to opposed with just water pressure. Much safer by the way as the boiler won't continue to heat the non-moving water in the boiler and turn it into steam, something you DO NOT WANT TO HAPPEN! You will come to love your heated pressure washer!

    We spent years using small engine machines like this and one great tip is to preheat the machine using a electric blow air heater as in the cold weather you get condensation water droplets in the carbs and piston bore which dampens the spark plug electrode .The heater works great and thats why endless amounts of people take a lawnmower to a repair shop in the spring when it will not start and all it is dampness .

    That pressure washer sat out in the rain for way too long. Happened to me when I forgot one of my mowers behind the garage for a few weeks. Engine, carb, and oil were all flooded with water. I ended up draining everything and then getting a universal carb off Amazon for $15. It's been great since.

    With that fuel line coming from Midway up the gas tank I would say it is acting like a siphon and is draining a half tank of gas into the intake witches flooding the cylinder and filling the crankcase with gasoline. When you first pulled it over and it jammed up because of the fuel being in the cylinder that is what they call hydraulic lock. It could very well have had a crankcase explosion I'm blown the motor up. I'll say this Andrew you are very diligent, when a problem presents itself you get right to it and resolved quickly. Other guys might have just said screw it doesn't run and pushed it into the shop and left it in the corner to collect dust.

  • @TomLongusa
    @TomLongusa 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My first thought was that...that line was a Fuel Vapor recovery line, preventing raw fuel escaping wild into our atmosphere. Especially since it fed back into the top of the fuel tank. A completely wasted appendage some engineer stuck on to make an enviroActivist to feel happy.
    But I sold on buying one of those heated PW’s in the near future.
    Having clean equipment alone can build a business. Not New and shiny, more like worked, bruised, and glowing with purpose!!! Great video...

    I am guessing (maybe you found out) something (a tube) INSIDE the tank, that was going (floating?) to the top of the fuel, fell off or disintegrated and raw gas was flowing right into the crankcase breather through the outside line. You have the right idea. Plug it off and vent the cap. The engineer that came up with that one was the sister of the inspector that made you tear up the septic system that you had just installed. :-)

      I thing the 4000psi imbedded the water in the metal. I sandblast a lot of stuff and have never had a problem ( except toe time I used that attachment, )

    Please Read
    I have an engine like that, that has the same problems. The fuel problem for me was to do with the small pin on the float, not stopping the fuel from flooding the carb bowl. Then the petrol would hidro-lock the engine and would leek into the crank case through the piston rings and mix with the oil. I address this issue by buying a slightly bigger pin with a bigger rubber point.
    Ps, love your videos. Really interesting and keep me occupied👍👌

    • @scottc0510
      @scottc0510 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's definitely one potential cause. Another possible cause is a bad needle valve in the carburetor OR a tiny bit of "trash" on the needle valve or needle valve seat, that allows the valve to not seat/set completely, thus causing the flooding issue. I've watched quite a few videos regarding this. Some guys suggest adding a fuel shutoff in the line to the carb, but honestly, that's just a band-aid fix for the real/underlying problem. There's a 99.9% chance the flooding issue is either a bad needle valve or needle valve seat in the carb OR the float itself has a pinhole in it, allowing the float itself to take on fuel, and so it never floats to the top and allows fuel to continuously flow...
