Private Railroad Crossings

  • Here's a railroad crossing g compilation video of private railroad crossings. These crossings you have to look for active security to be able to film. A lot of private crossings are actually don't have signals and I included one in this compilation that doesn't have signals. Private crossings would usually have a sign on them that says private crossing but a lot nowadays are having those signs replaced with standard crossbucks. As you see I marked some as half private. This is because those crossings themselves aren't private but their roadways lead to private property not to far or are to close to a private facility and security really doesn't want you to film from their side if the crossing which is Butterfield Stations situation. It gets frustrating sometimes especially at the Butterfield Station as the crossing is SACRT property and security wants to always act like they are hiding something even when recording isn't directed towards them.

Great video! In my experience, over here on the east coast, private crossings with signals would typically have crossbucks on them. The Private Crossing signs are only used on ones without signals, from what I've seen. CA is a bit different in how they do crossing signage, it seems, so I wouldn't be too surprised to find-out that CA used to require them for all private crossings.

Great compilation! Seems like a lot of private crossings have some goodies. But I gotta ask, have you ever been caught? I know you say you "have to look for active security", but was there ever a really inconvenient time for you?

Hi MobileRailSpotterRXR, I wanted to know, how do you know what time do the CSX or any other train crosses the road, like when the crossing activates and the train goes by. Please let me know, thanks! Also love your vids, keep up the good work

Thank you! I find out about when trains are coming by listening to them over a scanner and use an Scanner Radio app if the railroads area is available on it. Crossings activate off the train speed so I start recording as soon as I see headlights. When I was in the NC I caught some CSX trains by luck as I didn't know much about the lines and unfamiliar with the area to know exactly where a train was going at the time.

@@MobileRailSpotterRxR cool! Thanks you! I am a big railroad crossing lover. Funny thing is, I live in NC! I am in the wake forest/Youngsville area, and I see the crossing there all the time. Would love to see a train!

@@MobileRailSpotterRxR what is the app’s name? Is it called “police scanner and fire” or something?

Sheesh many crossings are privately owned. But they're still pretty cool. They still function as regular crossings do. Most of them are owned by private companies or railroads.
