For those of you who are trying to understand where to find comment section of file property, it can found when you right click on your mp4 file saved on your desktop or mobile then go to details, there you will see tags and comment section which will be blank. You can fill the details there and click OK. This has to be done before uploading your video on TH-cam. Hope that helps

Not only is your delivery pleasant and snappy, (you must be part-Italian with those hands, lol!) but I genuinely feel like I've stumbled upon a gold mine of info that I don't see large channels mentioning anywhere. Now here's where it's tough. We've had videos with 10% AVD + 20% CTR perform well, and videos with 3% CTR + 30% AVD perform well. We've also had videos with 50% AVD underperform too (the topic wasn't very popular on YT). I don't think it's an "either, or" situation, but as long as your video has 1 metric performing well combined with being in a niche that has good search volume I would expect the video to outperform. I bet if you asked 100 TH-camrs there would be a pretty even mix of answers!

This sounds like a lot of good advice. If someone didn't know these things, do you advise going back and implementing them? For example, if someone is just starting a channel and has only gotten a few views, should they go back and add comments and tags to their mp4 files, rename them to match the meta titles, and re-upload them? Or it better to just leave any uploaded videos alone and follow your recommendations with all new videos?
I mean if you have no views you have nothing to lose. But it really depends if you mean actually zero views or just few views. In general, try the categories, thumbnail file names, etc and see if it helps
I really needed to see this today. Had my channel for about 16 years now. Having watched this and for the first time ever looking at what channels similar to mine are doing i realise...ive pretty much done everything the WORST way. I'm just starting a new TH-cam channel and trying to grow it from 0, some of the points you make are really interesting and I don't think It has been made that obvious in other TH-cam tutorials. I have never seen anyone else mention how important the file names of the video and thumbnails are, I just assumed it was irrelevant as you set the title and description.

Well kinda. The thumbnail and video metadata titles should both be focused on the keyword you're targeting. For example "Best Wireless Headphones for Music 2024" would be a good metadata name for the thumbnail and video file. But the TH-cam title that the viewer sees can be changed to something more "TH-camy", so the thumbnail file doesn't have to match your TH-cam title

Same here! Does the attribute need to be written as 'People \u0026 Blogs' or 'People and Blogs' in the file properties? I'm guessing this goes under Genre?
Related to the metadata titles for mp4 and thumbnail, since you say that thumbnail is included in what Google grabs for keywords, here's how it could work to modify an existing video if you uploaded without the keyword optimization. Just find the thumbnail you're using and change the file name to do the SEO optimization and just reupload that. Poof, problem solved, right?

Can anyone reading this comment, please verify that her 16 pieces of advice are correct? If it's all correct, then this is by far THE BEST 'how to youtube' video ever. But it seems strange that she's suggesting some things that everyone else seems to say the exact opposite about. Example: when I first started YouTubing, people told me to mark my video unlisted rather than private, if I wasn't ready to publish it. She's saying the exact opposite...
It's difficult to verify all of this with 100% certainty - even if someone were working for Google. There are a ton of lines of software code, probably written by many different people. Oversight, unintended software behaviors, and bugs - are also common occurrences in writing software. And companies don't always provide true and accurate information as to how their company/software/etc, functions. This includes both within the internal scope of the company, and beyond. Some of this is done intentionally, some unintentionally, and some - a mixture of the two. Either way, just even the practice of changing a filename to the title of the video, can generally be done super quickly. As in, for many with some pretty basic computer proficiency, the process can generally take approximately 1-2 seconds (or less).

Well that explains why most of my videos never even got looked at by algorithms . I published many of them unlisted first. I wondered if that counted against the first 24 hours, didn't appear to in analytics but maybe that's misleading of youtube.
Lots of factors can play a part, but we’ve seen unlisted videos start tracking data in YT studio. If it’s unlisted and not being viewed anyways, I also just like it set to private to be on the safe side

We’ve seen shorts be hit or miss as well. It’s factoring in retention, swiped away percentage and CTR. Having a good thumbnail on the short (this can be done while uploading on mobile) is important too!

I am going to immediately do the low handing fruit of changing the category and the chapters, but I have a question: Is it ok to start by checking the auto capters, then going back at a later time? I have close to 500 videos that I need to change. Regarding the unlisted video, should I remove the video entirely and then reupload?
No don’t reupload unless it has or is getting zero views and got zero views. Sure you can do auto chapters then come back. TH-cam is an art, test and see what works for you. Auto chapter some and see what happens. We don’t like removing content ever if we can avoid it.
Making almost all those mistakes. I am self taught and knew pretty much nothing about TH-cam when I started. Thumbnails make big difference, but also creating curiosity in the title helps "cant believe" "is this legal" "i was wrong" things like that have done well. I will start renaming everything and changing the category! Great videos, thanks!

But there is no how to category on TH-cam when uploading. Advice and style and more. What do you mean? With How to as catogery? Purely curious. So that I can choose the right one
Not sure we understand the question! We show in the video where the category is chosen, we even show the drop down list and options of video category available. For whatever reason, “how to” is “how to/style” - fashion gets clumped in there.

Correct! These edits are made on your local video file and won't involve TH-cam Studio. If you find the file, right-click, and go to properties, you will be able to make changes there!

Meta data is short and descriptive title of your video. Insert in title session when you upload video. Tags in description and key words in tag session@@DogWoodsFlowerFarm
I’m gonna post this from Nick Nimmin, a channel that has almost *1 MIL subscribers.* He says the file name doesn’t make ANY difference-“If you look in the code of ANY YT page/video, you’ll see the file names are converted to strings of letters and numbers for their system to organize. It has ZERO impact on search performance or video performance in general.” I don’t know about y’all, but I’m gonna listen to a guy who has far more subs and views when it comes to this topic!!
All TH-cam and Google SEO advice and strategy is based on experience because Google is not in the business of telling people EXACTLY how to game their algorithm. In fact, Google is known to mislead people to keep it a mystery and that’s why experience matters so much. I've been in marketing for over 10 years (not just TH-cam) and I know this to be true. Ask any experienced marketer, Google misleads to keep the algo a mystery. Perhaps from one person’s experience file name does not matter for TH-cam but based on all of my experience exclusively working with businesses who want to show up on Google, file name DOES matter for Google. Just like how meta data DOES matter for blogs and website. Please see Ahrefs’ video where they go on record to say how file name impacted their rankings for TH-cam. th-cam.com/video/Nh0mDbfEdVA/w-d-xo.html Just because Google turns the info into code, does not mean it does not matter. I didn’t make this video to give people BS advice. I’m sharing what we’ve learned over 5 years growing channels in all different industries. If you see the pinned comment on this video, you’ll see this immediately helped someone out there. I’ve also received dozens of emails with people trying out these strategies and it helping smaller channels. Sure, don’t use these tips if you don’t want to. But you’re probably doing yourself a disservice by not doing everything possible to grow your channel. I worked with a lot of smaller channels for brands that have very specific audiences and we’ve consistently grown their Google and TH-cam search views even as new channels from what we do. We were courageous enough to come onto the internet and without gatekeeping, share what has worked for us. (all from our own experience) I don’t claim to be the TH-cam guru, I’m only sharing my experience and I believe Nick is sharing from his own experience as well. No one should blindly listen to anyone on the internet -- I always tell my client and team that Marketing and Content are interactive arts -- it’s all about consistency and testing.
You bring up a great point! BUT... I think what she is saying is from a MACRO level: basically, it's bigger than TH-cam. If you want your video found on Google search results, then do what she's saying... Nick Nimmin has [almost] 1M subs likely from TH-cam search results and the TH-cam algorithm, alone... plus his 1st published video was 9 years ago. She's recommending a step beyond TH-cam; she's suggesting getting found in Google. When I look up one of Nick's videos on Google [just now], 9 other videos come up before his: the top 7 videos have some of her suggestions in their videos. The file name + other things makes a difference OUTSIDE of TH-cam, like in other search engines. Nick is right, as it relates to TH-cam [only]. She is right, as it relates to Google and other search engines.

Yes! Assuming all the SEO research/prep is completed ahead of time, the upload itself will usually take around that. With all the work we put into the video itself we want to make sure we didn't limit the videos reach with a simple mistake!

These are some DEEP CUT tips. In all of my time as a TH-camr I haven't heard anyone say anything about the file names for the video and thumbnail matter. I'll start trying this out and see if it makes a difference at all. Thanks!

Now here's where it's tough. We've had videos with 10% AVD + 20% CTR perform well, and videos with 3% CTR + 30% AVD perform well. We've also had videos with 50% AVD underperform too (the topic wasn't very popular on YT). I don't think it's an "either, or" situation, but as long as your video has 1 metric performing well combined with being in a niche that has good search volume I would expect the video to outperform. I bet if you asked 100 TH-camrs there would be a pretty even mix of answers!

This sounds like a lot of good advice. If someone didn't know these things, do you advise going back and implementing them? For example, if someone is just starting a channel and has only gotten a few views, should they go back and add comments and tags to their mp4 files, rename them to match the meta titles, and re-upload them? Or it better to just leave any uploaded videos alone and follow your recommendations with all new videos?
I mean if you have no views you have nothing to lose. But it really depends if you mean actually zero views or just few views. In general, try the categories, thumbnail file names, etc and see if it helps
I really needed to see this today. Had my channel for about 16 years now. Having watched this and for the first time ever looking at what channels similar to mine are doing i realise...ive pretty much done everything the WORST way.

I'm just starting a new TH-cam channel and trying to grow it from 0, some of the points you make are really interesting and I don't think It has been made that obvious in other TH-cam tutorials. I have never seen anyone else mention how important the file names of the video and thumbnails are, I just assumed it was irrelevant as you set the title and description.

Well kinda. The thumbnail and video metadata titles should both be focused on the keyword you're targeting. For example "Best Wireless Headphones for Music 2024" would be a good metadata name for the thumbnail and video file. But the TH-cam title that the viewer sees can be changed to something more "TH-camy", so the thumbnail file doesn't have to match your TH-cam title

Just some factors of many that go into TH-cam success
Related to the metadata titles for mp4 and thumbnail, since you say that thumbnail is included in what Google grabs for keywords, here's how it could work to modify an existing video if you uploaded without the keyword optimization. Just find the thumbnail you're using and change the file name to do the SEO optimization and just reupload that. Poof, problem solved, right?
This would work for the thumbnail, however once a video is published we can't change the mp4 metadata file

If it's all correct, then this is by far THE BEST 'how to youtube' video ever. But it seems strange that she's suggesting some things that everyone else seems to say the exact opposite about.
Example: when I first started YouTubing, people told me to mark my video unlisted rather than private, if I wasn't ready to publish it. She's saying the exact opposite...
It's difficult to verify all of this with 100% certainty - even if someone were working for Google. There are a ton of lines of software code, probably written by many different people. Oversight, unintended software behaviors, and bugs - are also common occurrences in writing software.
And companies don't always provide true and accurate information as to how their company/software/etc, functions. This includes both within the internal scope of the company, and beyond. Some of this is done intentionally, some unintentionally, and some - a mixture of the two.
Either way, just even the practice of changing a filename to the title of the video, can generally be done super quickly. As in, for many with some pretty basic computer proficiency, the process can generally take approximately 1-2 seconds (or less).
@@musicingflowing yeah, I mean the file name changes don't take any time. Might as well. But some of the other stuff, would be a lot to do, depending on their actual effectiveness.

Well that explains why most of my videos never even got looked at by algorithms . I published many of them unlisted first. I wondered if that counted against the first 24 hours, didn't appear to in analytics but maybe that's misleading of youtube.
Lots of factors can play a part, but we’ve seen unlisted videos start tracking data in YT studio. If it’s unlisted and not being viewed anyways, I also just like it set to private to be on the safe side

We’ve seen shorts be hit or miss as well. It’s factoring in retention, swiped away percentage and CTR. Having a good thumbnail on the short (this can be done while uploading on mobile) is important too!

Usually these videos are dangerous cause people love to give misleading advice on youtube for somereason but this advice seems good.
Agree. Hard to imagine how naming files and categorizing videos could ever hurt your channel. We stand by our experience and sharing what works for us - test for yourself and see what works!

I am going to immediately do the low handing fruit of changing the category and the chapters, but I have a question: Is it ok to start by checking the auto capters, then going back at a later time? I have close to 500 videos that I need to change. Regarding the unlisted video, should I remove the video entirely and then reupload?
No don’t reupload unless it has or is getting zero views and got zero views. Sure you can do auto chapters then come back. TH-cam is an art, test and see what works for you. Auto chapter some and see what happens. We don’t like removing content ever if we can avoid it.

Making almost all those mistakes. I am self taught and knew pretty much nothing about TH-cam when I started. Thumbnails make big difference, but also creating curiosity in the title helps "cant believe" "is this legal" "i was wrong" things like that have done well. I will start renaming everything and changing the category! Great videos, thanks!

I found it interesting that you should make your video private and schedule it if you’re not ready for it to be public. Other channels tell you to make it unlisted and schedule. Great tips! But there is no how to category on TH-cam when uploading. Advice and style and more. What do you mean? With How to as catogery? Purely curious. So that I can choose the right one
Not sure we understand the question! We show in the video where the category is chosen, we even show the drop down list and options of video category available. For whatever reason, “how to” is “how to/style” - fashion gets clumped in there.

This should be the file itself. Its before you upload your video. Edit properties of the files in Windows or MAC OS.
Correct! These edits are made on your local video file and won't involve TH-cam Studio. If you find the file, right-click, and go to properties, you will be able to make changes there!

He says the file name doesn’t make ANY difference-“If you look in the code of ANY YT page/video, you’ll see the file names are converted to strings of letters and numbers for their system to organize. It has ZERO impact on search performance or video performance in general.”
I don’t know about y’all, but I’m gonna listen to a guy who has far more subs and views when it comes to this topic!!
All TH-cam and Google SEO advice and strategy is based on experience because Google is not in the business of telling people EXACTLY how to game their algorithm. In fact, Google is known to mislead people to keep it a mystery and that’s why experience matters so much. I've been in marketing for over 10 years (not just TH-cam) and I know this to be true. Ask any experienced marketer, Google misleads to keep the algo a mystery.
Perhaps from one person’s experience file name does not matter for TH-cam but based on all of my experience exclusively working with businesses who want to show up on Google, file name DOES matter for Google. Just like how meta data DOES matter for blogs and website.
Please see Ahrefs’ video where they go on record to say how file name impacted their rankings for TH-cam.

I didn’t make this video to give people BS advice. I’m sharing what we’ve learned over 5 years growing channels in all different industries.
If you see the pinned comment on this video, you’ll see this immediately helped someone out there. I’ve also received dozens of emails with people trying out these strategies and it helping smaller channels.
Sure, don’t use these tips if you don’t want to. But you’re probably doing yourself a disservice by not doing everything possible to grow your channel.
I worked with a lot of smaller channels for brands that have very specific audiences and we’ve consistently grown their Google and TH-cam search views even as new channels from what we do.
We were courageous enough to come onto the internet and without gatekeeping, share what has worked for us. (all from our own experience)
I don’t claim to be the TH-cam guru, I’m only sharing my experience and I believe Nick is sharing from his own experience as well.
No one should blindly listen to anyone on the internet -- I always tell my client and team that Marketing and Content are interactive arts -- it’s all about consistency and testing.
You bring up a great point! BUT... I think what she is saying is from a MACRO level: basically, it's bigger than TH-cam. If you want your video found on Google search results, then do what she's saying... Nick Nimmin has [almost] 1M subs likely from TH-cam search results and the TH-cam algorithm, alone... plus his 1st published video was 9 years ago. She's recommending a step beyond TH-cam; she's suggesting getting found in Google.
When I look up one of Nick's videos on Google [just now], 9 other videos come up before his: the top 7 videos have some of her suggestions in their videos. The file name + other things makes a difference OUTSIDE of TH-cam, like in other search engines.
Nick is right, as it relates to TH-cam [only]. She is right, as it relates to Google and other search engines.

Yes! Assuming all the SEO research/prep is completed ahead of time, the upload itself will usually take around that. With all the work we put into the video itself we want to make sure we didn't limit the videos reach with a simple mistake!
