Crazy how powerful the human mind is and what it can produce had they not told themselves they can make it out there they wouldn’t simple as that them saying listen we gonna make it out here doing something is what kept them alive had they said it’s no chance they would Al have sat there an waited to die the fact that they knew it was hopeless but still said let’s try these methods in a hopeless situation is proof the mind is capable of almost anything cause that was a 100 percent death sentence until they beat it

Whilst I agree SotS should have been up for best picture, Barbie had *massive* cultural impact and was enjoyed by millions all around the world. Maybe it didn't mean much to you, but to many, many others it did. I can totally understand why it's in the top 10. The movies that this movie should have/could have replaced is probably maestro or American fiction, which I still think are good movies but had flaws enough that I don't think they should be in the best picture spot. Id replace either with this one.

Make sure you watch it in Spanish, when you listen to them speaking Spanish with the accent the real survivors have, makes the movie more authentic. The Society of the Snow, the new film is a true jewel!!! Must watch!
First of all is the first film that really shows what happened without any "Hollywood" dramatisation and also shows the real discussions, the real dialogues, the real mountains and is the only film the survivors really feel that the narrative is what really happened and it also shows how they, and this includes the ones that died worked all together for the good of the group!

It didn’t occur to me that the avalanche scene happened in complete darkness cause of the scene in the movie, but just imagining it is wild. Digging snow, not sure where your friends are but hoping you find them and go on to dig again to search for the next one immediately. Everything about their experience seems so unbelievable, but they were able to push through and it’s incredible.

My friend told me about this event at first about a year ago and I was really intrigued. I looked up news articles and read about the timeline of events. He has Nando’s book and I plan to read it soon.
However, nothing hit me quite like this movie did. Society of the Snow is a spectacular telling of the story, and it does not shy away from the realities, monstrous and miraculous, that these people faced up there. I also really think it was a great choice to have the story told from Numa’s point of view, both because of his extreme reluctance to do the one hardest and most important thing they needed to do to survive, and his position as the last victim to pass.

The English word for "God" comes from the Hebrew word Elohim which means gods. The "gods" that the ancient people worshipped in the beginning were the stars. So the Bible's Genesis 1:1 should have been written as "In the beginning the stars created the heaven and the earth".

At least read the Wikipedia article about the events to make an informed opinion.
Eating the flesh of the dead, and then explaining to a horrified media the reasons they did it in a way that public opinion understands their decision requires guts.

"The society of snow" to me was a mediocre movie. But the story is so beyond comprehension that you could find it was reasonably helpful in understanding the events. Even though I was thinking all the time "these are paid actors" because the acting was mid the sensitivity of the director was not properly tuned in my opinion to the historical tragedy and miracle of these event. Surely better to read a book than to watch it. Actually, let me say that the first half of the movie kept me wishing they made different artistic choices, and the second half was almost good. But I would've liked to see it handled it with much, much more care. But the movie doesn't matter, the story is a testament of human solidarity trough adversity exactly as the survivors say. The story is real, and gives chills to the bones. But mediocre movie on great story doesn't make a movie great. Just my opinion
Even though, after all, it is a movie. And movies are not made in 5 minutes. Lots of effort, money and resources spent. So it's not like it's bad. But come on, it is a netflix movie, it is clearly designed to evoke specific reactions with plenty of cliches. When Numa Turcatti passes away, they pass this little sheet of paper, and gosh if I were the director I am sorry but I would have cut that garbage immediately. I was literally hearing them cue the scene before shooting it. I was hearing the thoughts of the actors "oh, I have to do this, but it shouldn't take too much time in the scene". For Christ sake
And what pissed me off was how special was the passing away of Marcelo Perez in the movie compared to the others. I get that he was surely a key and strong figure who kept everybody together, but come on. You can't shoot a scene like that. Something like a full minute of this slow shot moving towards his frozen body. Among all that disaster and tragedy! They treated him like a character, not like a real person who actually lived this tragedy. It was awful
