It’s amazing to think that Atriox, a brute who was smart enough to defy the covenant and survive comes from such a savage and merciless species
There's also Stolt, a grunt that made a Spartan retreat from him, can't be defeated by Sanghelli in hand to hand combat, and commands a Sanghelli ranger detachment.

Well at least when your captured by grunts you get somewhat nicer stay sometimes the grunts will talk to and occasionally sing with you.
If your captured by 343 grunts they will yell your ears out and beat your dead body in to a bloody pool
if you've read the first Halo novels you'll know that's not true - they'll simply tear you apart and eat what's left

To survive you must:
1) use smarts.
2) avoid direct combat.
3) cover yourself in mud.
So basically follow the plot of the original predator and you'll be fine.
And use the enviroment as your weapon.

It’s the other way around actually. The elites never trusted them. In fact until the last few years of the human covenant war brutes weren’t allowed to control many ships and what ships they did control had most of the major weapons and other systems disabled by the elites. It was only because of the prophet of truth that brutes even had functional ships and armor.

Adam Patterson I would have to say the locust, at some point the brutes aggression will be their own undoing but the locust have no problem working together to better their own kind even the religious figures in their horde have no problem with torturing humans for the fun of it

The amount of times I've tried to stand my ground against a Brute without realizing that they were raging is absolutely ridiculous. My cousin practically breaths Halo lore, everytime I find something I think will surprise him he already knows it.

Maybe it's just not the right series for this, but I just want one Halo game that pushes the M rating. Like.... A hard M. One that really shows the intensity, scariness and violence (gore) there would actually be in a war with such powerful and savage enemies. Reach probably did the best job so far, but still held back a lot. I'm really curious what (specifically) a Halo game that doesn't hold back would look like.
Speaking of the Brutes viscousness it would be much easier for Cortana and her Created just to wipe them out rather than tame them.

I just thought it was interesting that when the brutes captured those humans on Beta Gabriel, and then the brutes started fighting each other they mentioned that Marine reinforcements arrived and easily wiped the brutes out. Idk if this was because the brutes were tired from fighting each other or if they were severely wounded or maybe both? Idk I just always found that fascinating

Brutes remind me of a race called "Myrkridia" from an older Bungie game called Myth. They were monsters that hunted and ate humans and nearly drove them into extinction.
More graphic details would be great! Especially what happens to more defenseless colonies, or really what happens when the other races captured humans.

The Halo universe needed them to bring home the fact that this isn’t just pee pew laser guns fighting against our bang bangs, the brutes did a great job driving the fact that this was a war of extinction, survival, and just a brutal crusade against humanity
This is bit too much generalization about Brute pack behavior based on the one evolutions story. The fact is Brutes in post war Halo don't always act this way. They seem more in line with general mercenaries and will adapt to survive. The Brute Atriox in Halo Wars 2 kind of backs up this sentiment as well because it shows a Brute that actually thinks.

I honestly think the best way to kill them would be hiding in the mud to mask your scent and as they come by throw rocks at them when their in a group so they attack each other, once the carnage is over try going for the arteries of the last one standing as they have most likely been softened from the infighting.
Another option to outwit their sense of smell is to go down the river, let the water carry you away. Or if you can make a stink grenade or pepper bomb to overpower their sense of smell. Though the chances of that kind of material just laying around is rather low

Elites would rather Kill you in Combat than Capture you if i remember, there was a Scene in the motion comics i think where Elites attacked a Marine Barracks and they waited until the Marines armed themselves before they started fighting.
However i know some Elites are just Ruthless and don't care about Honor.
