Well done! Personally, I like your dress design far more than the original. The original looks like parts of several different dresses that don't match, joined together, whereas your design flows cohesively. Stunning!
I love to watch your work! Quilters have a trick to keep the machine from “eating” your fabric at the start of the seam. It’s called “leaders” and you begin sewing on this little fabric chunk, then smoothly on to your fabric.
Also, you can hold onto the "tail" threads and gently pull as you beginning to sew. The forward tension on the fabric helps keep it out of the machine.
Thank you for this video. Admitting how long it took to cut out and showing your machine eat the fabric are such real problems! You have unknowingly encouraged me to start sewing again ( I'm 65).
This dress is gorgeous. I love when you do these behind the scenes of the process. You also have the sweetest, calmest, happiest personality that comes over in your videos.
Thank you for having that moment of vulnerability where you said you worried about your creations looking too homemade. Im currently sewing a dress from a pattern and I'm constantly stopping and judging my work like that. It makes me feel better that you feel that way too because your garments always look stunning.
1970s for me with some pauses after doll dresses and puffy holiday dresses. Does anyone know of any other sites that actually explain the sewing steps? I am doing ballgowns with corsets now and could use some hints and tricks.
I got my first sewing machine for my 12th birthday late 89, I was so excited, it was secondhand but really nice still and it was my favorite present! I couldn't believe my mom got me a sewing machine. I was doing everything by hand and she saw how much I loved sewing. Miss you momma. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
We must appreciate that this soft tulle without stiffness in it self is one of the most horrible and difficult fabric to work with. Congratulations for your creativity, passion at most of all your patience and determination!!
About a year or so ago, I stayed with my grand daughter which is a joy. I showed her some of your shorts and she was hooked! She's was 8 years old. She binged on all your shorts without coming up for air!
OMG, the dress is magnificent! Gunnar, you are an artist. And you are a generous one, allowing us to see your process and hear your doubts. May you continue to know that you are gifted and that your work is terrific. ❤
You are such an inspiration Gunnar. You were my absolute favorite on PR because of your sweet authenticity. TH-cam pointed me towards your account and I was so happy to see your success. May you and your partner continue to be yourselves and keep giving us couture beauty!
When you were doing the ruffles and realized it was going to take for ev er, I thought, what you need right now is a sweatshop!! Lol, jk, of course. The humor that pops into my head isn't always modern or pc, but it keeps me entertained. I made a little girls dress with three rows of gathered skirt, hand gathered and well before the end, I was like the guy in Ants, "Just squish me now." I do use this gathering shortcut when I can't use a ruffled- use a piece of carpet or buttonhole thread, with a cording foot (keeps it centered) and zigzag over it. It doesn't give ruffles that have that flat strip you get with two rows of basting stitches, but outside of another sewist, who's really going to notice, right?
I've always called anyone who sews a seamstress, except myself of course, but I have seen sewist twice today but never noticed that before, is that what you call someone who sews? Concidering I sew, I can't believe I don't know this word, even if I didn't sew, how come I don't know this word? Shocked really.
Love your videos Gunnar! You have incredible talent and the finished garments are breathtaking! You and your partner are so cute together! Best wishes on your future projects
Hey there! Recent subscriber to your channel, because you came up in my Shorts feed and I needed more of you. I don't do any sewing myself, but it's one of the hobbies that I would like to explore in the near future. In particular, there are many cosplay ideas I've had from the games/movies/books I've experienced. I haven't sewed much since middle school (which was *mumblemumble* years ago), having opted for the Home Ec(onomics) course instead of Shop - even as a teenager I already had experience with power tools, so sewing and cooking were new challenges. Once I do get to a physical/mental space where I can explore sewing more, I'll definitely be subscribing to your member sections, to get some patterns and knowledge. Great work on the dress - it's gorgeous! - and I'm happy that the original cast/creators enjoyed it too.
Wonderful dress! Liked yours just as much as hers. You do great work, your grandmother is smiling down on you. I envision her saying, “that’s my grandson!”
Ohhhhh Gunner!! I love the dress you created and actually,,,love your design far more than the original!! You are truly amazing sir and i love your recognition!! It's your time!! Hugs and Merry Christmas ❤🤶
Hi Gunnar what a beautiful dress you made. I love the color choices and the flow. Of course you can do anything you set your mind to. You have over two million people who believe in you. Keep sewing the most amazing designs for everyone. Take care and stay safe till next time. ❤❤
Gunnar, I just adore you! Your interpretation of the dress was beautiful! You and your partner looked so handsome on the red carpet and I’m thrilled for you that the costume designer & Rachel Zegler acknowledged your work, skill, and talent! HOLLYWOOD OR BROADWAY, SOMEONE PUT THIS MAN IN CHARGE OF COSTUMING A PRODUCTION IMMEDIATELY!
Gosh I have missed seeing your work. I purely enjoy your creativity and immense skill. I Sooooo Love to play dress up even at the Ripe Old Age of 68.5 I Absolutely LOVE to dress up ! Thank You Gunnar for letting me imagine what could have been ! Luv 2 U Sweetie.
When you have a deadline as a creative person there always comes a moment where you hate what you have done. It's not really hate of your creation, it's hate of the stress caused by the deadline. I am not a great sewist, I am barely passable but I enjoy creating. It is never the garment that causes the irk, it's always the pressure, but I take it out on the project because it's not like it will get mad at me for hating on it for a minute.
BEAUTIFUL ❤️ 😍BEAUTIFUL! ❤ Your attention to detail is so amazing. The colors, the placement. I love it! You are so talented. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊
A clothing designer like you - surprised you aren’t designing fabric and how to weave or however fabric is now made, who does everything has to have a lot of knowledge about, well, everything. Your talent is amazing. Thanks for not hiding it.
The hunger games the ballad of songbirds and snakes, is my favorite hunger games movie and the hunger games are my favorite series you’re definitely did this dress justice. You are so talented. Keep up the great work. Hope you keep on continuing to make great dresses. And yes, keep it up you’re doing great.❤😊
I just found your channel and have never screamed so loud in my life!! I fell in loved with you/your work on project runway! You’re a very talented designer and totally nail everything you do!!! ❤❤ HUGE FAN!!
Gunnar, I am always excited to see your next creative work. I'm so happy for you being able to visit this event, as well as your European trip. Your "Hunger Games" dress is magnificent. It's so full of color and character. God bless you as you move forward on your artistic beauties. I truly look forward to watching your journey.
I don't know about hunger games, I have 0 clue about dresses, but it's so interesting seeing you geek out on something I have no knowledge about. Love the video!
Congratulations Gunnar!! Having that validation is everything when you create your version of a piece!! It's a gorgeous dress and you did an excellent job as usual!!! You and Chris looked so good at the premiere, loved your outfit too!! So proud of you sweetie!! I'm dying to see Gunnar Deathridge gowns all over the red carpet each season!!! Its what the red carpet desperately needs! I challenge you to make a gown that would inspire Hollywood A listers to fight for your creation!!! Maybe a period piece from the old Hollywood or Marilyn Monroe era! All the best hun, big hugs and twirls!! Oh and sorry your trip was cut short but for good reason, and very cool that you have great people and connections in Germany now so you can create wherever you are!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Gunnar!!! Your version is gorgeous. :) I am amazed that you still don’t think of yourself as worthy. You totally are! It’s kinda cute seeing you fangirling out though. 😂 Congrats on your viral video, and the high profile comments! Also, your BF is such a hottie! You two looked amazing together on the red carpet. More of that!!!
❤Gunnar your are such an inspiration..can totally see why your video went viral..the editing an production value is off the charts.first of all we've all fallen in love with your"press it flat and beautiful?" ..you have been showing how to put in your 10, 000 hours..and the way you style yourself to project creative powers and personal comfort in your endeavors.. My hats off to you,may great success come to everything you dream of. Ps_tule is the fabric made of whispers, magic and stardust!!🎆
This was my first time ever seeing you and though I haven't seen any of the movies (I hear they are awesome) this dress is absolutely stunning!! i would wear it just to swish about the house!! I am now an official subscriber to your YT channel and I'm probably going to binge on your videos for a while! LOL!
I'm new to your channel and you are so amazing! I've seen shorts on you and totally enjoy you're creations. You are just delicious in your explanation of your videos and designs are just amazing. I can hardly wait for more content from you.
It looks so beautiful! Amazing job 🌈 I love the skirt part, I’m just not the biggest fan of the appliqué because the colour doesn’t match (in my opinion). I would love to see your spin on one of Effie’s looks
Gunnar, you definitely did the right thing by taking a break when your sewing machine started chomping on your tulle. I swear sometimes a sewing machine can sense if we’re nervous or upset.😂
I love your patterns. I was wondering if you could make a pattern for a really practical but stylish dress for traveling, with good pockets for documents, cash and everything.
I can definately relate to "not making it look like a diy" its a wierd thing. When someone asks me about somthing i made , i just blurt out, i got it online.
This is driving me crazy! I started a video of yours, super fun. You were driving, talking….I loved the video & I wish I could finish it but I can’t find it! thank you for the reminder about “leaders”. I am a sewist and I can use that isea, myself!!
Omg what a great tip!
You can sew it on tissue paper too, then pull it off after
Great tip
Also, you can hold onto the "tail" threads and gently pull as you beginning to sew. The forward tension on the fabric helps keep it out of the machine.

I think we all do it, so I figured I’d share a moment of doubt too!
So very beautiful, indeed. Thank you for sharing.
I learned to sew in the 1960s. It has been a passion, a stress inducer, and a stress reducer. ❤️😀
Haha! I feel both sides of that!

Holy cow, it’s so incredibly beautiful. Dare I say, I like it better than the original. You are so, so creative and talented.
Same
Me too.
The dress turned out so amazingly well! I’m so glad the costume designer reached out to tell you how much she loved it! ❤❤❤
