I would never have said, “Nomadland was all about van life.” These days that’d be young couples building out & getting out. It’s more about how our “system” of capitalism creates multi-billion dollar businesses (see: giant Amazon hub, Empire USG) but leaves the workers that run it successfully for a lifetime high & dry. The main protagonist is houseless as result. I didn’t perceive anti-RV bias; rather, Fern lived in a utility van out of necessity and relied on people like her. All of the encampments had RV’s but I got the feeling the people in vans were the poorest.
The white birds with the pink flamingoes are ibis. Blue eyes, long, reddish, curved beaks. When they make noise it sounds like “unk.” The little ones are brown.
I lived in Broward County for over 20 years, took my daughters to Flamingo Gardens when they were young ❤️

Somehow missed when you posted this. I love you and I loved Nomadland. Two different mindsets of the nomadic life. When you age another 20 years, you'll understand how life takes away many opportunities. I didn't think the film badmouthed RV'ers. I think the ladies touring that luxury RV were envious of it, in the movie and it represented a lifestyle they could never afford. Also - that tree was a BANYAN tree and "FAUX" is pronounced "FO" (I'm sure 446 other people told you this.

South Miami is beautiful... There is also one blue-glass building by the airport that is cool... Also they recently built some huge condo buildings on the ocean... one looked like a clock. The one thing that is weird- is how far away CONUS is... even though you are on it there. Fl is basically a peninsula, and Miami is one corner of the Bermuda triangle.

I lived in downtown Minneapolis a couple blocks away from the hospital and next to a freeway. Nothing beats looking out of my apartment window on the 11th floor and watch it all just unfold. Must have been lights and sirens going by every hour. Then being the cities you have the gangs to watch and the drug dealers trying to either rob people or sell their stuff. Great times lol😜 just kidding. Made me almost go crazy living there.

@@vickenator I always enjoyed that skywalk path. Would connect all the buildings together. Then I forget which building it was in but they had allot of banks, fountain and food places Some smaller stores in the halls and such. During the winter time I would just walk around there. It was kinda cool in some of those places. But near the building I was staying at we had Somalian gangs. Pretty much teenagers but there is allot of them. They ended up putting my dad in the hospital hence the reason I moved there for a year. To see if I could do anything to help and to walk with him to doctor appointments. They never messed with me. I'm guessing they looked at my dad as an easy target. And that's why they robbed him like that.

I will be watching that, too. I've read the book, which was really good...it's about something a little different from Eric, though. There are people like him in there, and of course Bob Wells puts in an appearance, too, but this is mostly about people who ended up in their cars or an old RV out of economic necessity...they could just no longer afford housing. There are actors in some of the leading roles, and actual nomads showing up as themselves. They show people working for Amazon Camperforce, working a beet harvest, and camp hosting, just some of the jobs people who have found themselves living this way do for a living. Some are retirees or disabled living on as little as $600. a month, and how they always manage somehow because of the nomad community. It is sobering and uplifting, both at the same time. In the book, anyway.

They are peafowl with the males known as peacocks and the females as peahens. Only the males have the bright colors as they use them for attracting mates when the females have the coloring that makes hiding easier
That tree growth type comes from the strangler type of trees where they take root in a nook of a host tree and start to grow up into the canopy and down to access the ground slowly over time killing the host tree that then rots away leaving a void in the shape of the tree.

I somehow miraculously avoided losing power like most people have, so even though my heat pump outside froze up and quit working, my electric oven has kept me warmer than many people who have no electricity, no heat and no water. Hey, if you ever get tired of plugging in your fan to cool your batteries, you can by what is called an attic fan controller. You set it for like 100 degrees, once it reaches 100 it kicks on, once it drops below it kicks off. Thanks for the videos

Say it like it is: it is NOT "art." It is public vandalism.

I'm with you Eric, not a city person. I put small padlocks through my pins on the car because someone in CA in stop and go traffic had some nitwit pull their pins and one come out on the hi-way. It keeps someone from disconnecting your car while you're parked also. Just saying.

I recently saw a broke down car with 2 bicycles locked on the back of a bike rack in a bad part of town and the whole car was spray painted with words. I think the owner of the car didn't have AAA and couldn't afford to tow it so it sat there overnight. I feel bad for the owner of the car to come back and see it vandalized with spray paint of graffiti on all 4 sides of the car.
