The golden string is supposed to represent the fate that all these time they were meant to be together. And the line "wreck my plans" is like as a young adult we live a goal based life, planning about our future and in the documentary taylor said she felt like in her life everything is already planned out for her. So i think the wreck my plans line is supposed to be about how her man taught her to just live in the moment and be spontaneous.

The more that you say the less I know means he’s an never ending stream of knowledge and wisdom. He’s actually saying a lot. The more he speaks the more she realizes there’s so much she doesn’t know.

Thanks so much for interpreting that for us! I was thinking about it for a month and couldn't come up with any likely explanation for this lyric. It's so clever!

No matter what happens, if they mean to be together with golden string tying them together, then they will be always together

I think we are still trying to figure this out!!!! But, it’s not toxic. It’s fate. She follows the string of gold, that ties her to him. She sees him in the water, the two together and she says hey that’s my man. I’m waiting for you to take my hand (marriage), all this time I’ve been waiting. The string takes her back in time to when they were kids, but he wasn’t really there because it’s just a picture in time, then another point in time but she couldn’t get to him. Finally fate brought them together in real time, today. Always meant to be together.
There is another song on Folklore called invisible string that is about a “single thread of gold tied me to you”. That song sings about their lives at various points in their lives, before they met, beginning, during, and now. They were always meant to be together. I tie this song willow with that song. I think the video continues from Cardigan but the song doesn’t IMO. But, everyone interprets her lyrics in their own way. This is about fate and her waiting all her life for the moment they can finally meet and be together. This is about her boyfriend Joe.

This is from a whole new album called Evermore a sister album of Folklore that came out right now.

the golden string here is a reference to a song from folklore called invisible string, that might help. this is a sister album to folklore. also, look into no body, no crime. that one's a bop.

Even though the video appears to start where Cardigan left off, the songs are not connected. Cardigan is connected to the songs Betty and August.
This is likely more connected to Invisible String from Folklore “A string that pulled me
Out of all the wrong arms right into that dive bar
Something wrapped all of my past mistakes in barbed wire
Chains around my demons, wool to brave the seasons
One single thread of gold tied me to you”

Honestly there's a lot to explain but if you really listen to Taylors last album folklore, it pretty much sums up a lot for this video because there's different scenes in this videos , like her song "seven" with the boy from her child hood , and "invisible string" which is the golden string that leads her straight to him .

Its not toxic at all. Taylor's life has been planned since she was young. She even said this in an interview that she plans her stuff 2 years in advance, that she doesnt know how to accomodate other stuff.. Her man made her live life sponataneously. And the more you know the less I know, thats because her lover is smart and full of wisdom.

    • @Starbuck-dr7yl
      @Starbuck-dr7yl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

ouch she didn't say that. She said her record label plans things out 2 yrs in advance in that it is difficult for her to plan in advance because of her "then" label. which is not her label anymore. So, her life has been planned only from her record label planning her appearances and tour dates. your post made it sound like from a young age she had her life planned out, which she could not have possible imagined how famous she would be. IN fact, in 2008 in an interview she was asked where she would like to be in 10 yrs, age 28, she said that she HOPED she'd be headlining. HOPED. really? now that was a girl who didn't have the slightest clue what was going to happen to her. Her boyfriend of nearly 5 years leads more of a "normal" lifestyle, which she likes, she doesn't like how unmanageable her life has become. Yes he is smart and wise, but its not like she isn't. She is probably one of the smartest women in music today and savvy. He just is more out of the limelight and doesn't want anything to do with that. But, yes, meeting and falling in love with him wrecked her plans, whatever those plans were, they were not to fall in love with JOe Alwyn. Yet, now they live together and write Grammy nominated songs together.

This is part of evermore sister album and this is a second part of cardigan (kinda). There are references to each of her albums/eras. The golden string refers to “invisible string” basically she uses gold and that invisible string to represent how she and her bf are mean to be (red string theory).

“The more you say, the less I know” means the more things you learn, the more you find out that you know nothing about something/someone.

you guys need to listen to folklore, which won AOTY deservedly, and then evermore. These two quarantine albums, put out 5 mos apart, are sister albums and both masterpieces. Up for debate, but many people like evermore better than folklore, which is considered her best album in her catalog. You should really invest the time to react to the entire album and then to evermore. It really would be worth it. A lot of people, including myself, who never listened to Taylor before pandemic, listened to these two albums and now are hooked on Taylor. Is a new sound for her, I can get behind.
