    From my experience of buying and selling guitars since 1985, Yamaha classicals are the most consistent. I can go to any store in any town and pick up any model and feel confident that the fit, finish and playability will be on point. I can NOT say this for any other factory production guitar.

    I bought the GC6D in 1971. I loved it then--and love it even more as it's aged. It's a concert guitar, and has a very rich sound!

    Everyone calm down. A GC42 is $3600 and would make an excellent advanced student guitar capable of real performance.

    Yamaha does make high quality mass produced products but for something so specialized and specific such as the classical guitar and with the price that Yamaha has set, I don't know if they would be my first choice especially with so many gifted luthiers today. See, if your willing to spend 10k why not 15k if it means your going to get what you want? This is a serious purchase that should last a life time so it should not be rushed. Its not like your just picking anything out of a musicians friend catalog and if your concerned with resale value then you should buy gold instead. Personally, I would meet luthiers in person before deciding and also have good understanding for what it is I'm looking for.

      IGNORANCE is a word classical guitarist should learn about. why don't you judge a guitar by the sound... you are obviously judging it by the label, but don't realise that the head luthier Toshio Kato has been building these since the late 60s for Yamaha, and if the guitars were labelled with a one man label "Toshio Kato", then pretentious people like you would appreciate them more. you can buy decent Yamaha gcs in any price range. the older 60s/70s ones are now played in and sound great and very Spanish, and can be picked up for 1 to 2 thousand dollars and are often better then the more famous Japanese Kohnos and myriads of western builders who cost so much more. a lot of people that buy guitars do not buy guitars for a lifetime - don't simplify us - you go ahead and buy one for a lifetime, you are limiting yourself so much. people buy the best they can afford - but unfortunantly usually only buy names they are told about in the industry and don't seek to actually listen and judge for themselves. In Japan these Yamaha Grand Concerts, which are totally hand built luthier guitars (if you can not appreciate that) have a huge following, up there with single name Japanese luthiers that cost heaps.

    An extremely good choice for students? hmmm, $10,000 us dollars for a student level instrument. Yamaha, really, they're your best spokes person?

    • @YourFavouriteColor
      @YourFavouriteColor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      not really. College students who are studying at serious classical programs, it's not uncommon for them to get a 10K instrument as an undergrad. It's like getting a car or family piano. they pay in installments. 10K is cheap for a REAL classical guitar. Cello players pay six figures for their instruments. If you're a professional player, it's your money maker. We are spoiled by the mass-produced guitar market which drives prices crazy low and distorts the general consumer's perception of what a fine guitar "should" cost.

    Thin, harsh and metallic sound. Terrible. Like their motorcycles. Real guitars are made by generations of craftsmen and women (Ramirez, Fleta...). And real guitarists make music, not commercials.

      Yamaha has been making guitars since the forties. In the 1960s they brought in Eduardo Ferrer to tutor their luthiers, you might want to Google him. Segovia was also a guitar spokesman.
