      I swear this plugin is dangerous as fuck, it should come with no Distortion or a Gain Reduction at least, this shit clipped everything and sounded like straight white noise when I added it on accident - I was shook for the rest of the session

    I've used plugins in the mixer before but am just learning how to master a track because I like that "full" sound. To add a high pass in Fruity Parametric EQ 2 like in the video, it looks like you can right click on the number 1 in the purple circle and select High Pass under the Type category in the menu that pops up.

      Mastering is called that for a reason. Slapping a compressor on something is fine for most. Hell, youtube works, right? If you want to hear a masterer vs a complex AI trying to do the same, look into LANDR vs even a low rated masterer.

    It's not hard but you have to know what you're doing, you can easily ruin your song with bad mastering, it's recommended to send it to a mastering engineer, it's not as expensive as you'd believe, or learn mastering properly yourself, and take breaks and use reference tracks to refresh your ears. I'm a student mastering engineer, mastering isn't this crazy dark art, it's simple yet complicated at the same time and usually less is more.
    There's a lot of false mastering info on TH-cam, be careful not to fall into it, such as mastering to only 14 LUFS argument. Be really careful when eq'ing when mastering, you want to enhance what's already there and bring out the best of the track and maybe do a tiny amount of corrective eq if need be, but if you're trying to correct too many things it means the mix more than likely needs work. Get an idea in your head of how you want your track to sound, don't just boost and cut things because you feel like you should, and if something is already good, don't be afraid to leave it alone, you're doing what's best for the track, just because you're mastering it doesen't mean you need to touch every single frequency band or use heavy limiting.

    • @cheekyboy4467
      @cheekyboy4467 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "such as mastering to only 14 LUFS argument" - Can you elaborate on this part because I've seen it recommended to set to around these levels due to the streaming platforms and if you have something interesting or informative explaining further it could help?

      "Right amount" is subjective. Listen to songs you like in the genre you're going to make. Make your reverb amounts sound like theirs. None of the people who do mastering for a living had a mastering textbook with a "right amount" section, they just do it by ear.

    • @AnimalzyNL
      @AnimalzyNL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      To be fair, all those things are specific to your track. If you k ow the process, its basically a matter of preference. Just experiment and see what works with your track.

I have a question though: i follow your steps and enhance the sound tremedously on my tracks, but the "sound wave" or whatever its called where u can see the twists and turns of the track (for example on Soundcloud) looks pretty much like a solid block of bass. It is a bassy techno track but still, there are parts with just a highpitch synth too. Other technotracks seem to get way more detailed sound waves (or what u call em.. ) thanks for feedback on this and thanks again for your help!

    I don't get why edm must be louder as possible. Your music already sound good and balanced. It doesn't sound too quiet. If someone want to hear it louder they should just turn the volume up. Some producer kill the dynamic in the mastering process and the things loose definition.

    Hey Asher, just wanted to say that as an amateur music producer I've watched this video maybe a dozen times now. Really appreciate it and it's just really nice to walk through with it while I do my own mastering. Hope you're doing well in Nashville after everything thats been happening from tornadoes to pandemics to protests. Stay safe out there.

    This was a very informative tutorial! I've actually never mastered a song before because I didn't know anything about it, but I will absolutely follow your tutorial and use your tips when I DO try it for myself. I'm still trying to make my songs sound more open and clear, if that makes sense. I definitely noticed a difference when you mastered your song :) so thank you for this tutorial!

    You said when mastering make sure there are no plugins on the master bus, why can't you use EQ 2 and Maximus as shown on the master bus? Is there a reason to export as WAV first?

      Cal Malouin cause they might mess up with the other plugins that you already had in your mix. Exporting it to a wav file, makes those plugins you had in your mix to become one with the whole song, there are also other reasons but that’s one of them lol

      Doing mastering on your Master while got the hole other stuff open will kill your pc and may cause lag which will destroy your sound (depends on cpu and soundboard). When you export wave and master it in a new project you wont have to deal with these issues, eventhough u got a bad pc or laptop

      YoungBlaze for FL Studio, the master preset automatically comes with Fruity Limiter that limits the instrumental you use go above 0 dbz. When I took it off, the instrumental sounded highly distorted. It’s better to leave it on, but not to make any tweaks to it.

    • @quintijnkroesbergen5611

      @@tylerdengler6960 No you should leave it off from the beginning so it doesn't sound distorted. If you leave it on, it will cut a lot of frequencies.

    You're a very skilled producer, that track sounds killer, but the advice on actual mastering here wasn't great at all. You can't complain about compressing the low end too much because it gets rid of some of the punch, and then use an attack of 2ms, you should go to 10ms and beyond to preserve all of your attack transients

    Don't know if I'd call this real mastering, but for the bedroom wanna be that doesn't have the funds (not talking about you) it's a good starting point. Only thing is at the end when comparing before and after you should level match the two as you will be naturally drawn to the louder one but that doesn't mean it sounds better.

    • @TheAcesShow
      @TheAcesShow 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      UgpFpv very true, things sound better loud, it's why the loudness war exists. I find more luck mastering my stuff lower and not trying to crank everything to as loud as it can be without distorting it. When I do that I throw off the dynamics of the song I made. If rather have people turn it up than miss what I've spent time making.

    • @Yoyoman835
      @Yoyoman835 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, for sure. But I think all the people looking up how to master on TH-cam are going to be bedroom wanna be's. We know we can't beat the labels after an afternoon of TH-cam & messing around in FL. But it's insane how close we can get.
