      Awesome. Well with a Jeep I think you can flat tow most. You will still put wear on the vehicle and pay double for the setup vs trailer. But it is a smaller over all package and a little quicker to hook up and unload. Personal preference.

      Endless RVing Thank you, hubby is gonna love that reply. He’s always said trailer whilst I was typically thinking (where do we put it when unhooked when on a site). Hence the delay. He will be out soon buying a trailer lol. Thanks.

    I just saw your towing video and was surprised you didn't mention some of the biggest advantages/disadvantages of using a trailer. I agree a trailer is the best solution. Some big advantages of towing a trailer rather than flat towing:
    Biggest one - you can back up! Flat towing or using a tow dolly means you can never back up, which can get you into trouble if you ever mistakenly turn into a parking lot or gas station that is too small to pull through, or while parking in a campground. It's not easy to back a trailer behind a class A because of the huge overall length, but it can be done with a backup camera and an assistant.
    Protects your car! - Your car is off the road and less likely to be damaged by stones and rocks coming off the tires of your RV, and you are not wearing the tires and brakes on your towed vehicle.
    No need for a braking system in your towed vehicle.! Those are expensive and a pain to set up, and as you mentioned in your video, you will most likely end up giving it away with the tow bar when you sell your RV, where you can always sell a trailer.
    The biggest disadvantage to using a trailer is having room to store it at your campsite. It's the longest setup you can use, and it takes up space at the camp site.
    Overall I like your videos. Keep up the good work.

    Our set up for our Class A is: We have a 15ft Flat Bed Car Trailer behind our 40ft Class A Sun Voyager. We use the trailer for other uses. So that's why we invested in that type of trailer. So yes we are Super Long. Lol. But we have been using that kind of setup for years. And some Campgrounds they either have really long sites where we can leave the trailer behind the RV. Or they have a place for trailers. And we always put a lock on the trailer. To avoid theft. Cause where we live in Tennessee. Trailers are a high theft item. Which its something that my husband always does. Is put a lock on a trailer. Cause RV owners have had their trailer stolen at Campgrounds. My husband refuses to tow our car or truck any other way. Because when you tow them the other way. You still rack up miles on the tires and car. And with the camera on the Class A you can watch it. Good video for everyone.

      Trailer tow is really the best way if you are looking to not incur the wear and tear on your vehicle. It’s very easy to set up on travel day and allows you to tow your choice of vehicle. Thanks for watching and the comment.

    I’m with you I use a 16 ft trailer to tow my vehicles behind my 41 ft diesel pusher. I tow about 5 different cars behind my RV throughout a years time, it takes me about 10 minutes maybe 15 at the most to load any of them and I do it by myself, I do run a body shop and tow service sow it’s just second nature for me to load and unload them. Many times a year I also tow my limo golf cart as well on my 24 ft trailer with a car and I usually park it on my campsite as well. Some campsites charge a 5$ a night fee to store them and there are some that won’t accommodate a trailer and I just find one that will although most will. I put about 6 to 8 thousand miles a year on my RV and I’m always towing something, great video and info.

    Excellent info! Found y’all through Matt’s RV Reviews. We current have a pull behind but are in the planning stages for full time in the next 1-3 yrs. We are going with a class a gas motorhome and have been debating and researching tow behind options. The flat tow option limits our vehicle choice and the cost is high, and the tow dolly also limits our vehicle choice as well. We love Subarus and the AWD system for some light off road and trail rides. Didn’t realize how light that trailer is, so this will work perfectly. Thanks again for this video!

      Hello thank you for subscribing and welcome to our channel. Our choice for a trailer was based on exactly what you said. We did not want to be limited to the shrinking choices of cars that can be flat towed. I used to own a wrangler and although they look cool, they ride like crap and I won’t be buying another one lol. The trailer allows us to tow whatever we want within our weight limit. If we choose to move up to a DP then we are free to tow pretty much anything.
      Thanks for watching the video and the comment and welcome to the ERV crew.

    Great job! Great info… I’ve been thinking a little backwards, researching a capable “flat tow” vehicle, since I’m in the market for a new vehicle. I also plan on purchasing an RV in 2 years. So I thought flat tow was the way to go. I like the idea that the trailer is light weight and manageable to move freely! AND if ever in a jam you “could” back up! Thanks again, another doable option!

      Glad you like the video. I think people have fear of the unknown. The fact is it’s a very easy set up process. We are loaded and ready to go in less than 20 min. Trailer allows towing of almost any vehicle. For us we only see a stacker trailer in the future if we move up to a DP.

  • @ApexWoodworks

    Thanks for the informative video. One thing you need to point out to your viewers is the importance of the length of the breakaway cable. It always needs to be shorter than the length of the safety chains. That way if the trailer coupler ever disconnects from the receiver (or if somehow the hitch assembly post slides out of the receiver) the trailer brakes will be activated. If the breakaway cable is so long that the brakes don't activate when the safety chains become taut, the trailer will be dangerously whipping from side to side behind the towing vehicle, and may flip. Not a terribly good outcome, which could have been readily overcome by shortening the breakaway cable.

    I'm not sure which cat my uncle bought (3 cyl engine). He put hardware on the front that the tow bar snaps on, and the front hubs locks where electrically locked.
    This allowed the car to be pulled with 4 wheels on the ground.

    Watching you set this up got me tired! I use blue Ox and it's way easier, faster and less "stuff" to handle. So with this system you have to park the RV, the car and the tow bed. How do you find the room for all three at home and especially at camp sites and RV parks? Yes it's a choice and I like easy, safe and secure system best. Thanks again for sharing.

    Thanks for creating this video! No really. I have looked for days and all I see are people talking about the dollies and the idea of flat tow with the all too common me-car Jeep of one variety or another. Dont understand why people arent suggesting a flatbed trailer to haul those cars that can't be towed any other way. For the last year or so my plan has been to by a new or slightly used 25-foot Class C (Ford F-450 with a 7500K hitch) and hook up my new Stinger (all-wheel drive & loaded) on the back of the RV on a 15-foot trailer like you have so the car is off the ground and can easily come on and off as needed. Wasn't planning to unhook the trailer as the entire set-up (RV plus the trailer) is 40 feet or less, and as such it should be less of a hassle finding camp or park sites to accommodate. But anyway, about time someone provided info on this topic--a no-brainer--but videos on towing with a flatbed trailer are rare; yours is the only one I have come across in months. Thanks so much. I smashed it for you and subscribed. Bravo! Douglas M. New Mexico. USA

    • @EndlessRVing
      @EndlessRVing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Doug, this is great to hear. I was so tired of seeing everyone towing jeeps and old crv’s. I owned a wrangler and while it looked cool it drove like crap and like you said every year reduces the amount of cars that are flat towable.
      For us the trailer was a no brainer. Half the cost of flat tow, can be used in future motorhomes, allows us to tow whatever we want within our weight and doesn’t beat out Toad. Hookup is super easy.
      Thank you for the kind words and glad the video helped. Feel free to share if you know anyone that is looking for tow alternatives.

    For those with a gas class A, 99% of them are only rated for 5k lbs towing! So you need to watch the car you put on it!
    Also, if you are flat towing make sure you have some kind of toad protection. I’ve heard from many people that a rock guard would cause more damage that without one. Well on my first long trip towing I lost a fog lamp on my 13 Explorer, found rocks at the base of the windshield and on the roof. As well as very tiny rock chips all over the windshield.

  • @JDPEagle
    @JDPEagle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great demonstration, and I believe your solutions is just about perfect. We went with a tow dolly for one reason: storage. Storing a full trailer was problematic for us, and what to do with the trailer at a state park or campground seemed problematic.
    How do you address the issue of camping in state parks or other campgrounds lacking the space or pull through sites?

    • @EndlessRVing
      @EndlessRVing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      State parks we have been to have overflow parking where we will drop trailer. We also make sure campgrounds we go to either have a big enough site or a place to drop trailer. The good thing with a trailer is you can reverse unlike the other solutions. Also the trailer is light enough that once the car is off we can hand roll the trailer into whatever space we like.

    Have you had any major issues with storing the trailer once you get to a park? A lot of our parks in Texas don't have long pull-through sites. I have a Tesla, so this is really my only option for towing. I'm just a bit paranoid about getting into a situation where I have nowhere to go with the trailer.

    We have a 2019 GMC Terrian AWD. We are going South for a few months for winter. According to our GMC manual we cannot tow our Terrain AWD on a Dolly with rear wheels on the ground, nor can we tow it with a tow bar and 4 wheels on the ground. We have a trailer we used to haul Antique Farm Tractors to shows (16' bed x 76" between the fenders). I am sure this will hurt our fuel mileage. Will the mileage be worse than if we used a Towbar or Tow Dolly? The Camping resort we have reservations has a specific place to park trailers but they charge $64 a month extra! They do not charge for tow dollies. That is a nice trailer you are showing but we cannot buy another and have two. I would like to hear more Pro's and Con's about using my trailer? Thanks for your Video!

    • @EndlessRVing
      @EndlessRVing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      New Hampshire Joe hi Joe. As for sites we don’t book sites that can’t accommodate our rig either with a place to drop trailer or site big enough for trailer. Also keep in mind the trailer is fairly light and can be pushed by hand with wheel caster on. It has not been a problem for us. As for driving over trailer we have front tire spot marked with tape and it’s always a 2 person job loading and unloading vehicle. But we also use the same method pulling in and out of sites even without the trailer. Always 2 people, one spotting and one driving.
      Hope that helps. Thanks for watching video and the comment.
